Hamilton Kettles offers three distinct styles of labor-saving standard agitators with final selection based on the specific job to be done. You can choose single or double motion agitators as well as patented triple action agitators — with an almost unlimited combination of capabilities — for mixing, blending, beating, stirring, dissolving and improving heat transfer.

IHAMILTONI

Single Motion Agitators Single motion agitation is used effectively when the processed product is a light viscosity liquid which requires a simple stirring motion to decrease cooking time and keep materials in suspension. Three basic designs of single motion agitators are offered as shown and described on page 2.

Nylon scrapers, standard on all three agitator styles, and scrapers, made of other materials which are offered as options, are illustrated and detailed on page 4.

Double Motion Agitators Double motion agitation gives thorough counter-rotating mixing, faster processing on all types of materials, from light to heavier, more viscous products. Hamilton's sanitary, heavy-duty, double motion agitator consists of a stainless steel anchor-type bar frame with stainless steel horizontal blades welded to each side of the frame, and a heavy shaft to which a second set of blades is welded. The anchor frame and shaft rotate in opposite directions thereby setting up counter-currents for more thorough mixing. The entire circulated mass is heated/cooled at an even and uniform rate throughout. (See page 2 .) Nylon scrapers clean the entire heated surface and are easily removed. (See page 4.) Other style scrapers are also available.

Twin Shaft Agitators The Hamilton twin-shaft agitator design, which incorporates two separate drive motors, is one example of a specialized or custom design. On this unit one motor powers the center anchor sweep with its sanitary nylon scrapers to clean the heated portion of the kettle. The second motor drives the single secondary bar blade agitator in the opposite direction. A thermometer, with its guarded sensor protruding into the product area, is provided on the other side of the center shaft (Opposite to secondary agitator) to closely control product temperature. This unique agitator is ideally-suited for those products which require a scrape surface agitator and only slight mixing action.

Separately driven agitators can provide faster, more efficient blending of many products. Variable speed drive motors offered in a wide range of speeds, enclo-sures, etc.

Triple Action Agitators Triple action agitation provides three cross-mixing currents for positive mixing, blending, heating, cooling, etc. It's the most efficient method ever devised for higher-speed mix cooking of a variety of products ranging from heavy slurry to light creams. Nothing escapes the three intersecting cross-mixing currents of this unique agitator. The three agitating actions work closely together: the primary agitator scrapers remove product continuously from the heated portion of the kettle wall and deflect it into the path of the two higher-speed, secondary, counter-rotating agitators which are turning at three times the speed of the primary agitator. The result: a more thoroughly-uniform, intimately blended product achieved in significantly less time.

Secondary agitators are selected to suit specific processing requirements. Each pair of secondary agitators provides a special mixing action or performs another definite processing function as described in detail on page 3. They are interchangeable and can be quickly changed to supply the desired intensity of movement. Thus, by changing the secondary agitators, the triple action Hamilton agitator has the complete flexibility to suit the total spectrum of mixing demands, handling products with viscosities varying from light through medium to heavy. With but one drive, and variety of agitators, versatility is almost unlimited. However, for stirring only, one or both secondary agitators can be removed in seconds.

All three agitator shafts can be removed or interchanged readily and rapidly by means of Hamilton's easy-to-reach. positive and totally-sanitary quick-disconnect couplings, located above the kettle brim out of the product zone.

Compact double motion gearbox

HAMILTON'

Hamilton precision and quiet gear drive is completely enclosed in a machined aluminum housing. Gears are steel-cut; all bearings are bearium-bronze and the entire unit is completely sealed so that grease cannot drop into product zone. Easy-to-clean design meets most

stringent sanitation regulations, eliminates all potential for contamination. Compact, heavy-duty, double motion gear box is engineered for maximum horespower output, minimum wear and smooth, quiet, trouble-free operation. All parts of drive are standard — ready for immediate shipment.

Type #2 consists of a stainless steel shaft and anchor frame with two vertical baffles suspended in the kettle from the supporting bridge. These baffles can be adjusted to any desired deflection angle, and are offered in solid or perforated designs.

Type #3 consists of a stainless steel shaft and anchor frame having vertical bars welded to the frame and also suspended from supporting bridge.

TRIPLE ACTION Seven basic designs for a wide range of light to heavy-duty agitation services

Design assures maximum processing efficiency. Primary agitator, with attached scrapers, rotates slowly in a clockwise direction at 25 to 30 R.P.M., throwing the product from the heated kettle wall into the path of the pair of counter-clockwise

rotating secondary agitators which run at 75 to 90 R.P.M. Pre-selected secondary agitators working together with the opposing primary agitator provide optimum mixing efficiency and heat transfer.

HAMILTON AGITATORS General data

Options and Accessories

Custom-designs

Agitators are available in special designs to suit customer requirements in the complete range of kettle sizes, 30 to 1000-gallon capacities and larger, with horsepowers and speeds to suit any service.

Modifying standard designs

In addition, Hamilton Kettles' skilled engineering staff is extremely well qualified to aid customers and prospects in designing useful modifications for and adapting the whole range of standard stock agitators to specific applications. Please feel free to contact Hamilton Kettles to discuss all specialized agitation requirements.

Options and accessories

Kettle Scrapers — All Agitators —Standard and Optional

Sanitary-design finger-type kettle scrapers, made of nylon as standard, are mounted on the main agitator (anchor frame) to continually "scrape" the entire heated inside surface of the kettle and prevent scorching or a build-up of insulating product film on the wall. Scraper angle is precisely-designed to provide maxim urn cleaning effect, deflecting product into the path of subsequent agitation (except on single motion design). Scrapers are also offered in two additional optional materials: Nickel alloy or stainless steel backed, TEFLON-tipped, either of which may be spring-loaded. All scrapers are quickly removed for cleaning.

All agitators are of completely sanitary design for ease of cleaning and maximum product purity. Construction of parts in contact with the product (except scrapers) is all Type #304 or #316 stainless steel. All welds and bar stock are ground smooth and polished to a satin finish.

Drive units are totally-enclosed, A.G., constant speed, gearhead H.D. motors, 230/460 volts, 3-phase, 60-Hertz design as standard. Infinitely variable speed motors, and U.L. Approved Class I., Group "D", explosion-proof enclosures are available options for all agitator drives. Hydraulic drive

Hydraulic Lift — Optional

This unique device tilts agitator smoothly and quickly out of standard mix cookers for easy cleaning. Also useful for Type CW tilting-pouring kettles to give control of content when pouring, and often used on larger tilting-pouring kettles in place of worm gear and handwheel. Lift operates on a minimum of 45 psi water pressure. Unit is complete with 3-way control valve and interconnecting piping between cylinder and control valve. Flexibility of operation is assured because agitator may be stopped and held at any position, This hydraulic lift is quickly adapted to any Hamilton mix cooker. An air lift is also available.

motors are also an available option for each style agitator. Complete systems of hydraulic motors and power-packs can be supplied to meet specific user requirements.

Both motor and drive unit are supported by a hinged stainless steel, channel-type support bridge of sanitary design. Hydraulic lift units are optionally available to tilt agitator out of kettles, and/or to tilt tilting-pouring design kettles.

Portable Agitator Bracket — Optional

A stainless steel bracket, welded to the kettle allows mounting of clamp-type portable agitators. This device keeps hard-to-clean clamp assembly out of the product zone and prevents kettle wall damage which could be caused by clamps.
