Message from the Executive Chairman

Half a year has gone by and it had been an exciting journey so far. In our journey to greatness, I am certainly pleased to witness such positive progress among the PPB family and I hope this effort will be further intensified. Now is the time for us to pool our resources and work together as a great team and synergize in our daily routine. Everyone should value each other’s strengths and learn from one another. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome two new directors to our Board, namely YBhg Dato’ Mohammed Azhar bin Osman Khairuddin and Ms. Angie Ang Ai Hoon. I strongly believe that with their vast experience in related fields, they will contribute positively in assisting to steer the company towards excellence. With the growing momentum in the marketplace, we are now expanding and recruiting more manpower to drive the company forward. We will continuously review our staffs’ benefits and remuneration packages to attract and retain the right employees. So far, the implementation of the share grant, business incentive plan, site allowances and 5-day work system have received positive feedbacks from the employees.

Moving towards greater achievement, I am proud to announce that our Energy Commission Building or better-known as the Diamond Building had been awarded with the Green Apple Gold Award 2013 by The Green Organization, UK. We are honoured to be awarded with such prestigious recognition especially by an international organisation. We believe we have put our utmost effort in contributing to the environment and will continue contributing to the sustainability of green construction.

Finally, in terms of business growth, we are optimistic about the promising business opportunities in the short to medium term. As the company expands, we expect the PPB family to grow together and thus creating a remarkable success for everyone.

Dato’ Rosman bin AbdullahExecutive Chairman

F irst and foremost, I would like to take this

opportunity to reach out to all my Muslims

colleagues and business partners of PPB with

the warmest greetings in the holy month of

Ramadan and Selamat Hari Raya in advance.

May these joyous celebrations show us the

right path and lead us together on the path of

peace and social harmony.

In spite of a lower revenue of RM333.9 million generated by the Group compared to its corresponding half year in 2012 (RM353.1 million), Putrajaya Perdana Berhad recorded a higher gross profit of RM56.2 million compared to its corresponding half year in 2012 (RM44.4 million). The total net profit for the first half of 2013 has also increased by 40.6%.

The decline in revenue was mainly due to the completion of several major projects by the end of year 2012 and the first half of 2013 while the surge of total gross profit was due to better profit margin from certain projects in our construction division and the complete sold out of all units in Desiran Bayu project from our property development division.

A series of compensation dialogues was conducted with PPB staffs in separate venues to explain the improved compensation structure of the Group. The staffs were briefed on the rationale of this transition and how this could benefit them.

It was highlighted that the historical variable incentive payouts are unsustainable for the firm in the long run where the cost of overall variable pay as a percentage of net profit is significantly higher than peer comparators.

This new compensation will better align the shareholders’ and employees’ interests with stable payouts. Furthermore, the payout opportunity can exceed those from historical payouts, if stretch goals are achieved. It is expected that all staffs could accept this new compensation structure for the betterment of the Group backed by a sustainable profit making system.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2013 marks the year of the snake which represents enigmatic, intuitive, introspective, refined and collected of the animal signs. It is believed that those born in the year of snake are great mediators and good at doing business.

As for PPB, this year 2013 will be another challenge for us to continue seizing all competitive advantages of our focus in the business.

May we have a bright and prosperous 2013 filled with all good blessings. Happy New Year to all!

contributions.

Mr. Sit posing for a photo with Pn. Uma, the Headmistress of SJK (T) Sg. Manggis and the 16 students.

We once again stretched out our helping hands by contributing to the cost of lunches and tuition classes to a group of underprivileged students pursuing their standard six primary education in SJK (C) Chin Woo, Pudu, Kuala Lumpur and SJK (T) Sungai Manggis, Banting, Selangor respectively.

“The Group has always viewed education as the key enabler in building a responsible developed nation and high morale society. As such, we take upon ourselves to provide financial assistance to students in need through our School Adoption Programme so that they can focus on their studies without having to worry too much about how their parents are going to pay for the extra tuition classes and the lunches,” said Mr. Sit Kam Hock, Chief Financial Officer of PPB.

PPB donated RM7,200 that will cover a year’s tuition classes for 16 Standard Six students in SJK (C) Chin Woo whose parents are from the low income group and RM5,520 to sponsor a year’s lunches to another 16 Standard Six underprivileged students in SJK (T) Sungai Manggis whose classes commence in the afternoon from Monday to Friday, including school holidays.

PPB funded the transportation cost for 11 Standard One underprivileged students in SJK (T) Ladang West Country (Barat) in Kajang for the entire year of 2013. This effort is to ease the financial burden of the parents of these students so that their children can get to school with no hassle.

“This is part of our PPB’s School Adoption Programme to provide a conducive learning environment for underprivileged students to pursue their education and subsequently contribute back to the society. Some of the past projects which we have conducted were upgrading of schools’ infrastructure, sponsorships for extra tuition classes and school work books, and cash donations to needy students,” said Mr. Goh Ceah Chuang, Chief Executive Office of PPC, a subsidiary of PPB, after presenting the cheque to Ms. Supuletchemi Nallappan, the headmistress of the school on 22 February 2013.

Prior to this event, PPB had in 2012 donated workbooks and used computers to the school. PPB also sponsored lunches for students taking extra classes in the afternoon in 2012.

PUTRAJAYA PERDANA SHOWERS THE HOUSE OF HOPE & LIGHT WITH JOY & LAUGHTER

A group of 23 employees from PPB visited House of Hope & Light, an old folks’ home in Kajang on 21 February 2013. This was conducted in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festival to bring them not only contributions in kinds and monetary, but also joy laughter and cheer.

Prior to this visit, PPB and its sub-contractor jointly tiled up the entire ground floor area of this unused factory cum warehouse which was subsequently turned into an old folks’ home in October 2012.

“We are truly grateful of what PPB has done for the home. If it is not because of PPB, we will not be able to set up this home for the elderly and the less fortunate. They were the first group who came to us once they learnt of our plight in 2012 and again, they are the very first group which visits us since the establishment of the home,” said Mr. Ngiam Thong Eng, the President of the home which now houses 25 male residents.

Besides bringing glad tidings to them, the employees of PPB also had a great time fellowshipping with the elderly, singing Chinese New Year songs and enjoying lunch with them.

PPB Celebrates Fathers’ Day with the Residents of Malaysia Schizophrenia Welfare Association

On 19 June 2013, 10 of PPB’s staffs brought liveliness to the residents at the Malaysia Schizophrenia Welfare Association located in section 3, Petaling Jaya to celebrate the Fathers’ Day which took place

on 16 June 2013.

PPB rejoices the special day by serving 20 residents of the home with a cake and Kenny Rogers Roaster lunch. A sponsorship amounted RM2,500 was also given to the home together with other daily needs.

Though some of the staffs found it worrisome to mingle among the residents at the beginning, they slowly approached the residents and the residents started to share their stories and past experiences about their life. This visit finally changed their perceptions towards the Schizophrenia patients.

SchizophreniaWhat is Schizophrenia? The word schizophrenia comes from the Greek word skhizein meaning “to split” and the Greek word Phrenos (phren) meaning “diaphragm, heart, mind”.

1. Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that generally appears in late adolescence or early adulthood - however, it can emerge at any time in life.

2. It is one of many brain diseases that may include delusions, loss of personality (flat affect), confusion, agitation, social withdrawal, psychosis, and bizarre behavior.

3. It most commonly strikes between the ages of 15 to 25 among men, and about 25 to 35 in women.

4. In many cases the disorder develops so slowly that the sufferer does not know he/she has it for a long time. While, with other people it can strike suddenly and develop fast.

Newly weds New born

Our Accounts Department has taken a proactive approach by conducting a two-days training on the 20 & 21 June 2013. This training which was held at HQ’s boardroom was aimed to provide a better understanding of the construction contracts to the participants and also for their career development.

This training introduced the participants to the construction contracts; basic knowledge on accounting for construction contracts ie MFRS 111 – Construction

Contracts. Besides that, the accounts staffs were briefed on the application of the accounting standards in the monthly management accounts, methods to read and how to interprete the Long Schedule (an important schedule for determining the revenue, gross profit to be recognized and the relevant project information that is required for the accounts).

The staffs found this training useful and beneficial as they were exposed with the important areas that staffs should take note and understand such as the importance of proper monitoring of billings and collection, and risk and control measures.

Accounts Team Goes Proactive

Such training will help to improve the staffs’ skills and thus will equip them with necessary knowledge to be applied in their day to day work.

As we are moving towards Mission 190, we are now enhancing the application of ICT by adopting the Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in construction projects to improve our productivity and efficiency.

BIM is a process of creating 3D database model information that allows collaboration and coordination, detailing and design, clash detection prior to construction and documentation. This process would results in saving significant amount of time and money, increased productivity and quality. It also allows integrated analysis and simulation with time and cost and communicates with visualization throughout the project lifestyle.
