It is exciting times as we are beginning to upgrade the teaching technology in our classrooms. We have at this stage had 11 new Interactive Screens installed throughout the school to replace the outdated and deteriorating smartboards. Our teachers will be receiving the most up-to-date training in using and creating amazing lessons and resources.

WHAT ARE BRAI N BREAK S? For students to learn at their highest potential, their brains need to send signals efficiently from sensory receptors (what they hear, see, touch, read, imagine, and experience) to memory storage regions of the brain. The most detrimental disruptions to traffic along these information pathways are stress and overload.

Brain breaks are planned learning activity shifts that mobilize different networks of the brain. These shifts allow those regions that are blocked by stress or high-intensity work to revitalize. Brain breaks, by switching activity to different brain networks, allow the resting pathways to restore their calm focus and foster optimal mood, attention, and memory.

We will be initiating brain breaks into our classes regularly to support our student’s learning.

We have been learning about space and thought we would like to design our own

rockets. We started by sketching and planning. Parents came into our

classroom to help us build the rockets using junk craft. We then decorated and

painted our rockets, it was so much fun!

Yesterday it was Open Day and the parents got to come in our classrooms. First we sang a rainbow song. Then we went back to the classrooms and made a rocket. After that we had recess. I thought

the day was great! Oakley

So far this term the children had the idea to build a pizza shop in order to use the veggies from the

grocery store/garden dramatic play. They had to come up with suggestions for where to put the

pizza shop because the dramatic play area was already taken so they chose the cubby. Together

they came up with a menu and a list of items they need for their pizza shop. First up was a pizza

oven which they worked together to make out of a cardboard box. They also used their creativity

skills to make ingredients out of collage materials. What a great display of critical and creative

thinking!

The children then worked together to build their pizza shop and had the best time inviting

customers in and taking their orders. The children were so proud of all their efforts and showed

resourcefulness in creating the things they needed rather than just buying them, that’s real 21st

century learning!

Thank you to the families who visited our open day and got down and messy with us helping the

children make their own pizza dough, we all had the best time. It was so lovely to see so many of

you visit and get involved in your child’s learning.

After our dough had risen we used pizza sauce, ham and cheese to top our pizza. We then cooked them and enjoyed them for morning tea.

School Uniforms

School uniforms are now being purchased through the school office using a pre-order system. Payments can be made using cash, EFTpos or online. When placing your order via the payment portal on the schools website, please be sure to send in an order form showing your receipt number to the office so we can process your order. Once orders are processed they will be available for collection from the school office or can be sent home with your child. Please see the uniform order form below for prices and sizes available.

You can now submit absence notifications and change of details information and also download the Request for Administering Prescribed Medications form via the Skoolbag app. We have had great feedback about the eforms with lots of parents taking advantage of being able to complete and submit absence notifications via the app. Go to the Home menu within Skoolbag and choose these forms.

Library News Book Fair Update Thank you to all the students, parents and teachers who supported the Book Fair during Education Week. Holding the Book Fair over 3 days made a huge difference in the comfort of the students and parents during the busy period of Wednesday. The Book Fair took $6869 and made $2015 in rewards to purchase books for the teaching and learning of the students in Oxley Park Public School. This year had more reorders than any other year and due to a glitch in the online system, item ordered will be delayed by approximately 1 week. Miss Manwaring will deliver the items as they arrive to the students in their classrooms. Thank you for your understanding.

Hot Chocolates in our Pyjamas

Thanks so much to everyone who supported our Pyjama Day/Hot Chocolate fundraiser to raise

money for the One Step One Life, a not for profit charity providing schools, teacher training and

English education for the children of Cambodia.

On Thursday afternoon, Karen from the organisation came out to speak with our SRC about

the work of One Step One Life in Cambodia and share stories about some of the children

attending school and university with their assistance.

This was followed by a very cosy Friday at school, snuggling down in our PJs and sipping hot

chocolates with marshmallows. All for a good cause, of course!

In fact we raised over $800! Well done to all the teachers, helpers and children involved in

the day.

Swimming Lessons for Migrant and Refugee Families Penrith Woman’s Health Centre has received funding to help migrant and refugee woman to learn to swim. There are 2 classes a week for 8 weeks. The venue is Ripples Pool in St Marys. The Centre received funding as CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) families are often over represented in deaths by drowning. These classes hope to go some way to counter statistics. Anyone who is interested can ring the centre on 47218749 and ask for Yola or see Mrs Konarew.
