Our Vision: To Know God.

Entrance Hymn Come let us bow down to Christ as we worship Him the Son of God. Save us O Son of God, Who did rise from the dead; we sing to You: Alleluia.

Resurrectional Apolytikion Tone Seven (Plagal Three)

By Your cross, O Lord, You destroyed death; To the thief You opened paradise. The myrrh bearers' sorrow You transformed into joy, And You sent Your apostles forth to proclaim That You had risen from the dead, Christ our God Bestowing on all the world Your great mercy

Festal Apolytikion Apolytikion for the Saint

With the rivers of your tears you made the barren desert bloom; and with your sighs from deep within, you made your labors bear their fruits a hundred-fold; and you became a star, illuminating the world by your miracles, O John, our devout father. Intercede with Christ our God, for the salvation of our souls

Church Hymn (Troparion of Pentecost)

Blessed are You O Christ our God Who has shown the fishermen as wise men By sending down Your Holy Spirit upon them And through them, the whole world You drew into Your net O Lover of mankind, glory to You.

Kontakion

Ti ipermacho O Champion General, I, your city, now inscribe to you Triumphant anthems as a token of my gratitude Being rescued from the terrors, O Theotokos Inasmuch as you have the power unassailable from all kinds of perils free me so that unto you, I may cry aloud rejoice O unwedded bride.

EPISTLE READING St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 6:13-20

BRETHREN, when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one great-er by whom to swear, he swore to himself, saying, "Surely I will bless you and mul-tiply you." And thus Abraham, having patiently endured, obtained the promise. Men indeed swear by a greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he interposed with an oath, so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible that God should prove false, we who have fled for refuge might have strong en-couragement to seize the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

GOSPEL READING

Mark 9:17-31

THE CONFESSION OF FAITH (Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed)

I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages;

Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made.

Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man.

He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried;

And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father;

And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end.

And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets.

In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come.

Amen.

Sunday Service Schedule and Teams

When coming to Church on Sundays, families oftentimes disperse to fulfill commitments and duties. While these commitments and duties are important, Father Bill has set a priority of having families worship God together. To facilitate this, a schedule has been created so that family members who volunteer on Sundays will be assigned to serve on the same Sundays as their family members.

Message from the Stewardship Committee by Steven (Yoannides) Young

You’ve heard it said, “It’s not what you make, it’s how much you keep that really matters”. But is that really true? I’ve spent my entire career dealing with money and finance. I’ve been trained to recognize that the value of an individual or business cannot be determined by their income statement but by their balance sheet – their “net worth”. What is our net worth? Or more importantly, how does God measure net worth? Scripture is often good at providing wisdom that seems contrary to conventional thought. The world tells us our net worth is what we keep. Scripture tells us it’s what we give away. The world tells us that we own what we have. Scripture tells us all we have belongs to God. The world tells us to keep what we have. Scripture tells us to invest what we have for the Master. The world tells us to make ours first and donate only if there is any left over. Scripture tells us to give of our first fruits. The world tells us to hold on to what we have. Scripture tells us that the more we give away, the more we will receive. Second Corinthians tells us, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Luke 24: 7 tells us, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Many of us as Orthodox Christians recognize the great treasure we have in our Church. This treasure was bought for and fought for by and with the blood of Christ, the martyrs and our forefathers--truly a treasure of eternal significance. But is it a treasure of personal significance? As stewards of this great treasure we call the Church, we all have the awesome responsibility to care for it, preserve it and pass it on to future generations – yes, out of obligation, but also out of love and thanksgiving and sacrifice. So how do we measure our worth? Where are our hearts? Our treasures? Are we cheerful givers? Do we give of our first fruits or our left overs? The best place to find these answers is in our own checkbooks. Scripture tells us the Church is the body of Christ. Does our level of giving reflect the value and priority we place on the “Body of Christ” in our own lives? I dare say that if it did, the Church would never need to ask for financial support. Its accounts would be overflowing. Great Lent is the perfect time for introspection and change. It is a time to reprioritize how we live our lives and spend our money (for money is a measurement of how we spend our lives). If we are truly people of faith, let us live by faith and follow God’s commandments with regards to our time, talents and our treasure.
