About Original Sin? In our second reading today, St Paul writes, “Sin entered the world through one man, and through sin death, and thus death has spread through the whole human race…” This passage is one of the foundations for our Catholic belief in what came to be called original sin.
Original sin is not sin in the same way as our own personal sin; it is not some-thing for which we have personal guilt. It refers to the fact that because we all share a common bond as part of the one human race, we have all inherit-ed the effects of the sin of our first parents (“Adam and Eve”). These effects include the difficulty we have in choosing what we know to be right; the “disordered” nature of our passions (which means that the urgings of our will often don’t line up with what God knows is best for us); and ultimately the reality of death is also a consequence of original sin.
Original sin is a result of the fact that we all belong to the human family, and that family has been damaged by the sin of our first parents. As Pope Bene-dict XVI once described it: “We all carry within us a drop of the poison of that way of thinking illustrated by the images in the Book of Genesis.” This way of thinking includes not trusting God, and being suspicious that God is a rival who limits our freedom, and that to be fully human we have to cast God aside.
Original sin is washed away in baptism, even if we still feel the effects of it in our lives. But by God’s grace it no longer has the final word in our lives. To use St Paul’s words once again, “Adam prefigured the One to come, but the gift itself considerable outweighed the fall.” The fall, which brought sin into the world, was great; but the remedy that God gave us is even greater.

Did You Know...
PLEASE CAN YOU HELP We are seeking the assistance of a volunteer to launder the purificators, which are the white lin-en cloths used to clean the chalice and paten after communion. Please contact the parish office if you are able assist with this ministry.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY
Children’s Liturgy has recommenced online. This will consist of a short YouTube video which will be available on our parish YouTube channel www.youtube.com/channel/UCAewY9fvC7TZikGRcuVUo4w each Sunday.
Please note: After this weekend, Children’s Liturgy will take a break and resume 19th July
The Melchizedek Project is a new online discern-ment group for single men from the Catholic Dio-cese of Rockhampton who want to explore their vocation. Christ is calling us all to serve Him and His Church, and if we want to follow him we have to start by asking the question "How is Jesus calling me to follow him?"
The goal of the Melchizedek Project is not to con-vince men to become priests, but to connect men who are discerning their vocation to support each other and learn from each other as we work togeth-er to conquer fears and doubts in our lives, and dis-cover our true calling, wherever that may lead.
If you’re interested or would like to know more please contact Michael Otto at [email protected] or 0433 897 973.
HOW BIG IS YOUR HEART? Foster and Kinship carers open their hearts and homes to children and young people who are unable to live at home with their own families because of abuse or neglect. Almost anyone who wants to make a difference in a child’s life can become a foster carer. Everyone can help—regardless of gender, orientation, experience with children at home, whether you’re employed or retired.
You just need to be you and have the passion to make a difference in a child’s life.
The best way for you to learn more about foster caring is to contact a member of our Foster Care Team. You can learn and ask questions directly from our foster care team on topics.
• How and why children come into care and the different placement types they need
• The role of a foster or kinship carer
• The supports available
• And the steps to becoming a carer.

POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER TO MARY
DURING THE PANDEMIC
O Mary,
you always shine on our path
as a sign of salvation and of hope.
We entrust ourselves to you,
Health of the Sick,
who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain,
keeping your faith firm.
You, Salvation of your people,
know what we need,
and we are sure you will provide
so that, as in Cana of Galilee,
we may return to joy and to feasting
after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform to the will of the Father
and to do as we are told by Jesus,
who has taken upon himself our sufferings
and carried our sorrows
to lead us, through the cross,
to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.
SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the
Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things,
and desire to receive you into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you
Sacramentally, Come at least spiritually
into my heart. I embrace you as if you were
already there and unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen
All of us working in the office are sending a huge thank you to all those who have registered for Mass online. We realise it is not an easy process especially for those who are not used to working with technology. If you are having trouble registering online please do not hesitate to phone the office and we can talk you through it.
