STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 13 / REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD PARA LA SEMANA DEL 13 DE DICIEMBREToday, the Third Sunday in Advent, is also called Gaudete Sunday. That name is taken from the Latin word Gaudete which is the first word of the introit of today’s Mass. Gaudete means “Rejoice.” The first line of the introit in its en-tirety is Gaudete in Domino semper, meaning “Rejoice in the Lord always.”

Joy and rejoicing are part of all of our readings on this day. As Christmas draws near, the Church emphasizes the joy which should be in our hearts over all that the birth of Jesus Christ means for us. Like Lent, Advent is a penitential season for us as Catholics. However, having passed the midpoint of Advent, we see some changes to encourage us in our spiritual preparation.

Yes, this should have been a time when we have been spiritually preparing for the coming of Christ. It is not too late; it is never too late in the eyes of the Lord for us to make a determined effort to change, to repent, and to find ways to properly serve the Lord as disciples. On this day of Joy let us renew our efforts to be good stewards of all of our gifts. Stewardship, of course, is founded in trust. On Gaudete Sunday in 2013 Pope Francis said, “Those who trust in God experience the peacefulness in their hearts and nothing and no one can take that away. Our joy is Christ.”

3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT / 3° DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO 3

Pope Francis declared a Year of Mercy to start on December 8. The key scrip-ture verse for this year is “Merciful like the Father.” In Luke 6:37-38 we read “…the measure you give will be the measure you get back.” Francis asks us to refrain from judging our brothers and sisters, for “too often we look no further than the surface; God the Father looks into the person’s very soul” (MV 14).

Are you merciful? Pope Francis invites us to assess whether we are truly living as disciples of Christ by engaging in works of mercy. The corporal works of mercy are: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, heal the sick, visit the imprisoned, and bury the dead. The spiri-tual works of mercy are: counsel the doubtful, instruct the ignorant, admonish the sinner, comfort the afflicted, forgive offenses, bear trials patiently, pray for the living and the dead (MV 15).

Confession is central. Pope Francis emphasizes the healing found in confes-sion, and calls all Catholics back to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, especially during Advent and Lent. We will be having our Advent Penance Service on December 21 at 7pm in the Church.

El Papa Francisco a declarado que el Año de la Misericordia comenzar el 8 de diciembre. El verso clave de la escritura es “Misericordiosos como el Padre.” En Lucas 6:37-38 leemos “....la medida que das será la medida que se te devolverá.” El Papa Francisco nos pide que se abstengan de juzgar a nuestros hermanos y hermanas, porque “a menudo miramos no más allá de la superficie; Dios Padre ve dentro del alma de la persona” (MV 14).

¿Eres misericordioso? El Papa Francisco nos invita a evaluar si realmente vivimos como discípulos de Cristo mediante la participación en las obras de misericordia. Las obras de misericordia corporales son: alimentar al hambri-ento, dar de beber al sediento, vestir al desnudo, dar la bienvenida al forastero, sanar a los enfermos, visitar a los encarcelados, y enterrar a los muertos. Las obras de misericordia espirituales son: asesorar al dudoso, instruir a los igno-rantes, amonestar al pecador, consolar a los afligidos, perdona delitos, tomar las pruebas con paciencia, rezar por los vivos y los muertos (MV 15).

La confesión es central. El Papa Francisco hace hincapié en la curación que se encuentra en la confesión, y hace un llamado a todos los católicos de nuevo al sacramento de la reconciliación, especialmente durante el Adviento y la Cuaresma. What should we do? John’s reply in today’s gospel sounds a lot like “it depends.” His response to each questioner was specific to their life situation. He knew the temptation that faced each person. If you are blessed with a surplus of material goods – don’t hold onto them. Share them with those who have less. If you are in a position of power – use it to elevate others. Be satisfied with what you have. Open your closet, open your wallet, open your hearts. The fruit we bear reflects the depth of our repentance. During this season of Advent, don’t be afraid to ask the question: What should I do?

Congratulations to the 6th Grade for win-ning the 1st Annual Middle School Pie Eating Contest! On November 20, twenty-five middle school students attended the monthly Middle School Friday Fun Night event. The youth played team building games and Advent Bingo. They also wrote Christmas cards to juveniles in local detention centers, made Advent prayer chains and wrote “thankful” notes to family and friends! The evening of festivities was a great way to begin the Thanksgiving and Advent Season!

Miracle of Life: Month EightThank you for allowing me to live. I change positions often at this point. If my mom had to deliver me prematurely now, there is a good chance I would survive. Please pray for me.

Baby Shower In anticipation of my birth next month, the church is throwing a baby shower on January 23 & 24. I’ll need lots of things. A list will be posted soon. Can’t wait to see what I get.

Week 31 My skin has been red for a couple of months, but now it’s becoming pinker. I weigh about three pounds and I am about 15 inches long.

Week 32 Layers of fat are growing under my skin to make my skin soft and smooth!

Week 33 I used to swim and do somersaults in here, but I can’t any more. I’m too big! I weigh four and a half pounds and I am 18 inches long.

Week 34 When I move my foot or my hand, mom can feel it, and sometimes dad can even see a bump move across mom’s tummy. That’s my foot making that bump!

O Lord as I grow in my mother’s womb, let all who see her in this pregnancy rejoice in you and in your creation of me, as you fashion me into your image and likeness.

PSA Update & Thank You /Actualización de la Campaña de los Servicios Pastorales Thank you to all those who joined together in helping Our Lady of Fatima reach our PSA goal for 2015! Together we make a difference in our faith community. At the end of the year, you may consider making a stock gift to the PSA. All gifts received through the end of December will count toward our 2015 parish campaign. So far we pledged $201,932 of which $176,674 has been paid. OLF School’s Annual Christmas ProgramDECEMBER 16, 6PM / MCGOWAN HALLYou are all invited!

Transitional Kindergarten Blessing Bag Day Success

We counted our blessings and discussed how important it is to share our blessings with others. We poured all the toiletries on the floor and sorted them by type. Then we made an assembly line and the children packaged ziploc baggies with: soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a comb or brush, shampoo, conditioner, tissues, and hand wipes. We were able to

create 34 compete Blessing Bags and 31 additional packages of toothbrushes and toothpaste. The children were so proud and FAM will be so thankful. It was another great day in TK!

Update - Annual Christmas Luncheon & BoutiqueThanks you to the parishioners and families that attended our 4th Annual Christmas Luncheon & Boutique held in honor of Mary Martin. It was a festive day for all. Your generosity and support for our school’s Art Program was greatly appreciated. And thank you Sue Simmons, for your graciousness as our special guest speaker.

OLF School Does City HallEighteen members of the OLF School choir graced San Clemente City Hall with glorious renditions of classic Christmas carols on December 2. Their festive winter hats, scarves and gloves added to the Christmas spirit they spread to all in attendance that evening.

OLF School San Clemente OutreachOnce again, we reached out to those in need of Christmas cheer in San Clem-ente. OLF School has teamed up with the San Clemente Junior Womens Club 2015 Ornament Gift Giving Drive. The outpouring of support was a joy to behold! We delivered a very large bundle of individually requested gifts in the form of toys, clothing items and grocery food gift cards to the SC Commu-nity Center on December 11. Thank you OLF families, for your continuous generosity in giving joyfully to those in need this Christmas season.
