INFANT BAPTISMS For children under 7 years of age, the sacrament is celebrated the FIRST Sunday of the month at 2:00 pm. The parents must register in the parish office at least 4 weeks prior to the baptism. Both parents and godparents are expected to attend one catechetical session in advance, on the Wednesday before the baptism, at 7:00 pm.

SACRAMENTS OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION Before being fully initiated into the sacramental life of the Church, children over the age of 7 will need catechetical prepa-ration through the RCIC process. Teenagers and adults will par-ticipate in separate RCIA processes. CONFIRMATION and COMMUNION For those already baptized, preparation for these Sacraments will take place according to the person’s age and knowledge of the Catholic Faith. For further information contact the Office of Faith Formation Program.

MARRIAGES Couples should contact the parish office at least six months in advance to make the proper ar rangements for the Sacrament of Matrimony.

RECONCILIATION A priest is available for Confessions on Saturday afternoon from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. You can also make an individual appoint-ment. PARISH DEVOTIONS Our Lady of Fatima Novena and Rosary Monday 7:30 pm.

Dear Parishioners,

Having celebrated the Nativity of John the Bap-tist, we know that we are at the beginning of summer and one of the major holidays for our country during the summer is this Wednesday, July 4th, Independence Day. We can celebrate with red, white and blue and meditate on the his-tory behind our flag. I am proud to view the histo-ry of the United States as one that ideally promo-tes the God-given rights and freedom of all peo-ple. It was in the second paragraph of the Decla-ration of Independence that we have these well-known words:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

As with all nations, the people that are their citizens have a responsibility to hold its nation accountable for its actions and to develop the best government possible for the betterment of the world community. The only perfect govern-ment will be in heaven when God fully reigns. Until that time, we as Catholics must work conti-nually to root out corruption and evils that are present in our system of governance. This past month our Diocese had listening sessions about racism. We need to continue to work for justice and mercy regarding our treatment of immi-grants. We continually must call for a change of the decision to accept and legalize abortion. The-re are many other issues as well. Let us continue to work for the quality of life that God wants us to have in our church, commu-nity, nation, and world. Happy Independence Day.

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PARROCO

Queridos Feligreses: Después de haber celebrado la Natividad de Juan el Bautista, sabemos que estamos en el co-mienzo del verano y una de las principales festi-vidades de nuestro país durante el verano es este miércoles, 4 de julio, Día de la Independencia. Celebramos con rojo, blanco y azul y meditamos sobre la historia detrás de nuestra bandera. Me enorgullece saber la historia de los Estados Uni-dos como una que idealmente promueve los dere-chos y la libertad que Dios da todas las personas. En el segundo párrafo de la Declaración de Inde-pendencia tenemos estas palabras conocidas:

Sostenemos que las verdades son evidentes por sí mismas, que todos los hombres son creados iguales, que están dotados por su Creador de ciertos derechos inalienables, que entre ellos están Vida, Libertad y búscar la Felicidad.

Como todas las naciones, las personas que son sus ciudadanos tienen la responsabilidad de res-ponsabilizar a su nación por sus acciones y desa-rrollar el mejor gobierno posible para el mejora-miento de la comunidad mundial. El único go-bierno perfecto estará en el cielo cuando Dios reina completamente. Hasta ese momento, como católicos debemos trabajar continuamente para erradicar la corrupción y los males que están presentes en nuestro sistema de gobierno. El mes pasado, nuestra Diócesis tuvo sesiones sobre el racismo. Tenemos que seguir trabajando por la justicia y la misericordia con respecto a nues-tro trato a los inmigrantes. Continuamente de-bemos pedir un cambio en la decisión de aceptar y legalizar el aborto. También hay muchos otros problemas. Continuemos trabajando por la calidad de vi-da que Dios quiere que tengamos en nuestra igle-sia, comunidad, nación y mundo. Feliz día de In-dependencia.

Cassie Zelic, Our Principal is retiring With deepest gratitude for her unquestionable dedication to Our Lady of Fatima School, we announce the retirement of Mrs. Cassie Zelic. Mrs. Zelic has been the school Principal for over thirty years, more than a quarter century of leadership in Catholic Education. We miss her already. It is a grace for a person to enter into retirement after years of dutiful labor in one’s field of service. Cer-tainly this was earned by Mrs. Zelic and our prayers accompany her as she embarks on yet another adven-ture of life’s journey. May God bless her and bless us as we now pray for her as well as the next principal of our school.
