Creative Development Art: We will be looking closely at objects and developing our skills at observational drawing – trying hard to pay attention to detail and also ensure that our drawings are to scale. We will look at artwork from various artists dealing with the subject of water. We will attempt to replicate this work using a range of media and materials. Music: Will continue to be taught by Mrs Thompson on a Thursday afternoon – the focus will be our performance of ‘Treasure Island’ in July – further details to follow! Knowledge and Understanding of the World R.E: This term our work will focus on Hinduism and we’ll look at the religion in detail including researching the beliefs, festivals and ideas of Hindus. Geography We will compare the UK with the rainforest and focus on the Amazon. We will study this Biome and look at the delicate ecosystem. We will study rivers and look at rivers around the world. Children will be able to label and explain the key features of rivers. PSHE This is our world. We will study democracy and see how laws our made that have helped to protect our environment. The children will develop environmental awareness and responsibility. They will also develop their awareness of climate change and the factors that contribute towards this process. What small things can they do to make a difference? Science & Technological Understanding Science: The children will study a range of subjects this term linked to our topic. The Water Cycle We will look at the water cycle and its importance to life on Earth. We will learn some songs that will hopefully reinforce the scientific vocabulary involved with the water cycle and link this to our work in Geography. The Human body Through this unit children learn to identify the main parts of the circulatory system and explore the impact of exercise and diet on the human body. They will also be able to describe how nutrients are transported around the human body. Computing: We will continue to develop our ability to use the Chrome books to record ideas and present information. We shall look at using Photostory, Communication, Language and Literacy Fiction The Kapok tree. We will focus on this tale based in the rainforest which examines man’s destruction of the rainforest. The children will research rainforest deforestation and will write their own version of the story to share with KS1. Treasure Island – children will look at this classic tale in conjunction with our Summer production. Non-Fiction Continue to recap of many aspects of non-fiction writing. We will cover various units including instructions and letter writing. They will write recounts of their residential visit as well as produce a Pirate fact file when we look at Treasure Island. SPaG In preparation for their Spelling Punctuation and Grammar test in May, we will continue to focus on word and sentence level Numeracy In Numeracy the children will investigate a range of topics extending their understanding and knowledge. Recognise angles where they meet at a point, are on a straight line, or are vertically opposite, and find missing angles.
