Honors students will complete six honors experiences during theiracademic career at UC. Students have the flexibility to selectexperiences that meet their unique learning goals and interests. Anhonors experience could be any of the following:

An honors seminar

Honors seminars are engaging interdisciplinary courses that alignwith one or more of the thematic areas of University Honors andengage students in active and experiential learning. Experientialcomponents may include service-learning, domestic or internationalstudy tours, visits to sites in local communities, integration of labwork, or other activities in which students are actively engaged inlearning outside of the typical classroom setting. Honors seminarsare upper-level courses (300-level or above) and can apply towardgeneral elective requirements. View a list of honors seminars, byquarter, on our website: http://www.uc.edu/honors/academics/specialtopics.html

A course approved as an honors experience

These specially identified honors courses are typically 100- and200- level courses, but could also include higher-level courses thatdo not fall into the definition of an honors seminar. They challengestudents in ways beyond what a typical introductory course does andnormally include active and experiential learning. Examples includeHonors Art History and Honors Physics. View a list of courses onour website: http://www.uc.edu/honors/academics/expcourses.html

An experiential learning project

Experiential learning projects allow students to expand and applytheir knowledge beyond the boundaries of academic courses.Through established or self-designed projects, students can explorethe world, conduct research with faculty, contribute theirmasterpiece in a creative arts field, or provide significant leadership

to campus or community organizations. View a list of projects onour website: http://www.uc.edu/honors/academics/experiences.html.

What’s an Honors Experience?

What’s an E-Portfolio?

An e-portfolio is a purposefulcollection of student work thatexhibits the student’s effort, progress, achievements, andcompetencies gained during acourse or time in college. It

provides a richer picture of one’s performance in a moreefficient, dynamic andintegrated process.

University Honors students arerequired to maintain an e-portfolio using Nuventive’siWebfolio. This platformprovides a secure and efficientmeans for students to buildportfolios.

E-portfolios have emerged atUC as a key tool in supportingIntegrated Core Learning (ICL),which is the University'sapproach to integrating students'General Education, major/minor

coursework and/or othercurricular and co-curricularactivities. The UniversityHonors Program is among thefirst university-wide programsusing e-portfolios.

Profile of This Year’s Incoming Class

This year we will welcome over 300 students to the UniversityHonors Program. The average composite ACT score is 31.4, whichis the highest in three years.
