Indian Houseware & Decoratives focus on the projection ofmatchless designs in both contemporary and ethnic taste. Theypresent a varied range in houseware, kitchenware, tableware, bathroom accessories as well as decoratives and gifts. To appeaseinternational contemporary demands, manufacturers focus onfreshness and new thinking, offering exclusives in products ofeveryday use as well as indulgent ones. IFAS- Indian Furniture &Accessories Show brings to Home Expo, a select & premiumassortment of furniture and furniture accessories from India. IFASshowcases the finest in craftsmanship & artistic elements in perfectharmony with modern designs and well-researched productdevelopments.

Advancement in technology and paucity of time are keywords forthe flux in lifestyle changes, giving seed to new ideas andinnovations in home products. There is evident fusion of thetraditional and the contemporary, the classically simple and themodern day simplified. The handmade has been substituted withthe handcrafted. And the resource called India is revisited for itsinspiration, craftsmanship and ability to transform ideas intoobjects with aesthetics, quality and functionality. Manufacturersare broadening their product base with complementary accessoriesfollowing same storylines as their principal products.

Visiting buyers have responded very well to Home Expo India, withall five earlier editions reporting favourable response & feedback.

“Indian crafts are quite popular in our market, especially ironlamps, mosaic lamps. Indian fabrics appeal me the most,” says abuyer from Holland who visits EPCH fairs almost on a regular basis.“Indian goods are more personal, unique and organic since theyare mostly handmade. This is probably why they are on the moreexpensive side but our end-consumers are ready to pay,” says abuyer from USA sourcing wall items like photo frames, mirrors anddecoratives. Another visits Home Expo to source silver, stainlesssteel and brass products with hand embellished details. Somebuyers from USA visit for nature inspired products with anunmistakable European touch. Some others who deal in homedécor, accessories and textiles, feel that Indian manufacturers have

a much better understanding of the American market than theircounterparts in other countries. They have shared that Home Expois an apt interactive platform for buyers and exhibitors in thehome segment. And that, Indian manufacturers offer a lot of newand fancy stuff in variety beyond expectations in manycategories. Textiles, ceramic and glass have interested them inparticular.

“Indian goods are better in quality and appeal us much morethan those manufactured elsewhere. And they also have thathandmade value. People often buy low quality stuff for low pricebut I am definitely not one of those,” shares a buyer from Norwaywho sources hardware goods like metal stands, ceramic handlesand knobs from India. Manufacturers in India produce with thebest of raw materials, feels a buyer from Germany, whose firmsources for 300 stores in the country. “Other than Delhi, we buyfrom Moradabad, Jodhpur, Chennai, and other countries likePoland, China, Turkey, Spain, and Germany. And of course, welove what we get in India, that’s why we keep coming back here,”she shares. Another from Germany buys seasonal decorativesfrom Indian manufacturers. “Indian craft is quite popular inGermany and people are especially interested in metal, glass andwooden products more. German people are not much into Indianfurniture. We expect Indian manufacturers to produce seasonbased products as India has lot of potential in this segment,” shesays. Other buyers from Germany have found significant appealin garden items & wood material that manifest cultural andtraditional tones. Industrial designs and handcrafted as well asantique furniture routes in many buyers to Home Expo. It isobserved that a mixture of ethnic and modern style appeals toFrench customers, although there is always a preference forinnovation and freshness.

Home Décor is the area of interest for buyers from France, manyof whom prefer a slight touch of Indian traditional ethos in theirmodern designs. They also feel Indian handicrafts are at par withthe best in the world; handlooms, artifacts and incense productsfrom India are sought after by many French consumers. “Indiangoods have an edge due to their focus on quality, finesse, finishing and also due to the fact that they involve a lot of handlabour. We love India and EPCH fairs are always a good experiencefor us, “ says a British buyer for fine furniture and rugs. AnAustralian buyer feels inclined towards Indian suppliers as they“offer great variety and designs in home wares, sustainable andnatural products, cushions, bags and candles. “Australiancustomers look for subtle Indian products and therefore we lookfor unique handmade products. Shipping from India is profitableand exhibitors here have been very supportive and friendly,” heexclaimed.

A buyer from Denmark says, festive products and interior itemssuch as home ornaments, vases, glass and mirror items, wallhangings, candle and tea light holders, etc. from India have afairly good demand as besides being attractive, they offer betterfinishing quality than their counterparts in other countries. Thereis no comparison between markets but when it comes tohandicrafts, India is the ‘go-to’ destination and the Indian marketis looking good for the near future, said a buyer from Spain forhome accents and smoking accessories. Italians have liked homeaccessories and small items manufactured in India. They feelinspired with every visit and share that a beautiful exchange ofideas is possible with Indian manufacturers.

This show is one of EPCH’s specialisedshow focused on the home segment.I am sure our overseas trade visitorswould welcome this show andappreciate this compact endeavour. It is laudable that the Council hastaken this step and I hope more ofsuch niche and focused events are
