概要
● GPSや GISを活用する上で重要となる地図データの自由な利用を目的とする
● OpenStreetMap(OSM)プロジェクトを理解し、大学周辺など鳥取市内の地図データ作成と、それを用いたガイドマップの作成を試みる。

"Why not just use Google maps?"
● Short answer:
✔ Because that data is copyrighted and owned by multiple organisations like the Ordnance Survey. Google/whoever just licenses it. If we were to use it, we'd have to pay for it.
✔ 日本では、ゼンリンなど

How can a project like this create accurate maps?
● By the very nature of the wiki-style process there is no guarantee of accuracy of any kind.
● Then again, few proprietary maps carry a guarantee of accuracy, either.
● In fact, some have artificially-introduced errors.

Mapping
● This is not just an online project.
● We are getting out from behind our computer screens, and surveying towns and countryside to create our maps.
● This is very much a community mapping effort.
● We use wiki-style collaborative editing software to support this, ...

Beginners' guide
● You need a computer connected to the Internet and some time to gather information and then enter it.
● A GPS unit and connecting cable are purely optional, but will be required if you want to collect data that way.
● Given the excellent aerial photography available in the editors these days, a GPS is less important than in the early days of the project.
