ONE STUDENT AT A TIMEFriends,
On behalf of a grateful Northrise family, thank you for your investment of time, talent,
and treasure to love and serve the people of Ndola during IMPACT NDOLA 2019.
God brought us together and was glorified through your efforts. What a beautiful
sight to behold – God’s children gathering together to serve and love one another.
God’s unique design and giftedness of each participant, joined by God’s spirit to do
immeasurable good.
We are also thankful for those who supported you with prayer, financial resources,
and loving encouragement as you prepared for and participated in a week of service
in Ndola. The pictures and words contained within this booklet portray an incredible
ongoing story. While sharing the love of Christ with so many in our community,
you have opened doors and built bridges to a brighter future. Through your
encouragement and servant leadership, you have empowered Northrise students
to continue to walk through those doors and share His love while serving others.
It is impossible to fully describe the impact of our time together, but we know that
it is written on our hearts for eternity. God has changed us and we now look at the
world and ourselves differently. It reminds us that we all need a Northrise in our lives
to teach us to listen to His voice, walk by faith, and feel His pleasure as we serve
others. Let’s plan on meeting again for Impact Ndola 2021. Until then may God bless
and keep you and make His face shine upon you.
Eternally Grateful,
Moffat Zimba

“Northrise students and alumni are excellent servant leaders. They loved the children well and taught them about Jesus. The kids really admire them and respond well to them. It is a joy to know that Northrise will continue to be a light in the commmunity long after Impact Ndola has ended.”

“This week was filled with joy! Jesus is the source of true
joy. Serving during VBS was a humbling experience.
My heart is changed. I will cherish the memories
and relationships that were made this week.”
6
“I rejoice knowing that God changed lives this week. Seeds were planted and we give Him all the glory.”
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

THE MEDICAL/DENTAL TEAMS
Some members of the Medical and Dental Teams provided health checkups
and lessons about basic hygiene, such as the
importance of washing hands, keeping wounds clean,
and regular teeth brushing at the three VBS locations.
Other members of the team served at NUCare, located on
Northrise University’s campus, performing dental
extractions and health checkups.

“I have learned that not all foods and drinks are good for my teeth. I am so grateful for the free services. NUCare has brightened my smile.”

“My main job is to get people out of pain, however, there is so much to be done. With that said, I feel bad that I cannot help everyone. It’s my fourth time and each time I feel the same pain that not everyone can get the help.
I want to show my God that am learning patience. I pray for the mercy of God over His people and NUCare.”

THE FARM & KITCHEN TEAMSSome members of the teams practiced new recipes in the kitchen and made sack lunches for the U.S. participants while others helped to build a greenhouse to ensure the kitchen at Northrise University is able to serve fresh produce year-round to students and faculty. New equipment was installed to better track weather and rainfall to ensure the farm is being used to its full potential.

“This experience has allowed me to learn to relate with people of other cultures. I like how people have gone out of their way, leaving their families and sparing time to serve the community sacrificially. I hope to put into practice what I have learned from this experience.”

THE MEDIA TEAM
The Media Team conducted interviews, captured
video and photographs, and recorded stories of
our trip.
”Two years in planning, volunteers from near and far converged upon Ndola in the name of God for five days to serve in different ministries to the best of their abilities. Today, Ndola, Zambia and Africa celebrates our service, because with each rising African sun, we woke up with a mandate to make the world a better place for even one person encountered and this was a goal set and achieved by many. We may never again see the people we served or the fruits of our service to them, but rest assured, every smile and wave given even in the slightest way Impacted their lives in ways we may never comprehend. So thank you, gracias, twatotela and dzikomo, to all the participants of Impact Ndola 2019 who took time off their daily life routines to spread love to the communities of Ndola, indeed God has been with us.”

THE SUPPORT TEAMSMembers of the Support Teams work tirelessly behind the scenes. The Command Centre Team provided clear communication and expectations, Security Officers ensured our safety, The Technical Support Team guaranteed quality sounds and amplification, The Finance Team kept all the resources flowing, The Maintenance Team kept the Campus Centre clean, comfortable, and kept the essential facilities working, the six bus drivers of The Transportation Team coordinated our travels around the city each day, The Student Choir led us beautifully in worship, both during the Women’s Conference and Friday’s Praise & Worship Night, and The Evangelism Team prayed and shared about Jesus all throughout Ndola.
“Our job is to control the sound at the women’s conference and the Friday worship service. We have met many people and learned a lot during this IMPACT. Even though we do technical work all the time, this is a new experience. It has been great.”
“Two things I want to leave behind are the spirit of teamwork and a shared purpose. Two things I am taking with me are friendship and good relationships.”
15
THE WOMEN’S CONFERENCE“IMPACT has impacted me in a way that I have grown spiritually, while serving in the women’s conference in worship. It was a privilege to see God work while I served. My expectation was to serve in light roles such as singing in the worship team, ushering and serving refreshments, but it was far more involved. I learned a lot in the preaching and the small group meetings. From the ladies’ testimonies, I learned God is still God and He is still working. It’s nice that we had people visit us all the way from America, to come and serve is amazing. It has been awesome.”
Gathering at Northrise University, the speakers and small
group leaders discussed being fearless because they have been
created by God and in Him there is no fear.

THE WOMEN’S CONFERENCE
THE MEN’S CONFERENCE
Gathering at Ndola Baptist Church, Pastors Wayne
Griswold, Christopher Mubanga, Lazarous Phiri,
and Wezi Ndhlovu taught sessions on faithfulness.
“If we believe in God, we must serve to the best of our ability by serving others exceptionally well even when they do not believe or behave as we do. Serve with what you have and not what you wish you had.”
“How can you care for a soul of another, when your own soul is in despair? Practice what you preach in every environment you find yourself in.”
18
IMPACT NDOLA 2019“We have met our objectives. This experience always enlightens me and gives me courage. Even though we can’t help everyone, we need to reach as many people as we can with Northrise. We are blessed to have the amount of help we have to run this project.”

BRIAN MUSENTEKWA BACHELOR’S OF FINANCE
& ACCOUNTING4TH YEAR | 2019
Brian’s family has lived in Ndola’s Mapalo compound all their lives.
His community has limited access to education, health and social
facilities, and has widespread economic deprivation.
The state of entrenched poverty there moved PASTOR EMIL
MUKUKA (top right), a Northrise graduate, to establish a community school in Mapalo. Emil was among
the first students at Northrise
and received a Certificate of Theology. He started Mapalo Academy as a long-term holistic poverty alleviation strategy, running a feeding program and providing spiritual guidance for the pupils.
Brian started his primary education at Mapalo Academy at age seven. Brian Musentekwa, now an NU fourth year student, is determined to succeed at Northrise, become an accountant, and a good man who is able to help other people. Brian also served in Mapalo during Impact Ndola 2019.
CONTINUING THE IMPACT
Thousands of qualified high school graduates in Zambia cannot afford to attend university and earn a degree for a brighter future. Financial aid scholarships allow qualified students to begin their journey of academic excellence, spiritual formation, and economic empowerment. Scholarship students participate in work study and service learning in the community. To learn more and invest in the lives of students, please visit northrise.org.
