Foreword
1. There has been an on-going and continuous Foresight process in Wallonia since 1985. 2. That Foresight process, called « Wallonia to the Future », has been launched by The Destree Institute (Regional Development Research Centre and NGO), at its own initiative. 3. After the success of the first exercise, the initiative has been supported –– by the Government of Wallonia. 4. The Governance model has provided a new compre-hension of the social environment and allowed new orientations to the Foresight process.

Recent works : the region - city dimension
Undertaken upon the initiative of Commissioner Johannes Hahn, this reflection is part of the wider discussions on the future of regional policy. It tackles issues such as: - How can regional policy support towns and cities to tackle the challenges of today and in the future? -What vision do we have for possible models for cities and towns of tomorrow?

Recent works : the region - city dimension
Undertaken upon the initiative of the Minister of Land Planning, this study elaborates on five meta-scenarios for the Walloon territory by 2040. The demographic challenge (how to welcome 500.000 new inhabitants in the next 30 years?) is at the heart of the reflection. http://www.wallonie-en-ligne.net/Wallonie_Prospective/SDER_Scenarios_Territoires-wallons_Horizon-2040_Dossier_2011-11-15.pdf

Conclusions
1. Embedding foresight culture is a long, demanding and multidimensional process (25 years in Wallonia). All spheres of the society should be invested in it.
2. Territories, cities in particular, are excellent practicing grounds for doing so and impose a systemic multidimensional approach provided by foresight
3. Multilevel governance is a relevant framework to organize fertilization between local, regional, national and European policy instruments, foresight being one of them.
