Although the outfit applier shows 6 different buttons, we can only add ONE upper body texture and ONE lower body texture to the script. We need to think ahead to make it as easy as possible for our customers.

Example 1 – The jacket layer + the glitch pants layer

As you know the jacket has an upper anda lower part + the pants layer. How wouldyou solve this problem.Questions you could ask yourself are:- would any of my customers want to

wear the jacket without the pants?- is there any use for the just the glitch

The answer to both questions is NO and actually the problem is already solved for us when we look at the textures involved. The lower body textures is in this case used both for the jacket layers as for the pants layer. We add the upper body texture to the Top and the lower body texture to the pants.

Example 2 – Shirt layer + Jacket layer + Pants layerNow let’s make it a bit more difficult. In this outfit we have the top and the pants layer like in example 1 but we also have this fur bolero that is on a jacket layer. This jacket layer however has one texture only, the bottom part is transparent. This outfit uses the jacket layer for this bolero so it will end up ON TOP of the dress.How would you solve this now? Repeat the questions from the first example but now concerning the bolero: Would any of my customers want to wear the bolero without the dress?

Is there any use for just the dress layers?

The answer to both questions is obviously yes. The bolero can be worn with any other outfit. The easiest way to solve this is to have an outfit applier for the dress only + a top applier for the bolero.

Example 3 – Jacket layer + pants

In this example we have a jacket that has an upper and a lower body template worn on a short pants. It is unlikely that anyone wants to use just the upper part of the jacket so what we could do here is use an outfit applier to put the jacket on the top layer and a separate lower body applier to put the pants on the underwear layer.

Example 4 – Dress and underwear jumpsuit with stockingsThis particular dress can be worn with or without the starry underwear layers. So we make one outfit applier for the dress on the top layer, like we did before. And we make one outfit applier for the jumpsuit on the underwear layer. So far it is simple, but then you will see you miss a part… the stockings layer to cover the feet.

We can use the Lower Tattoo layer for the stockings. These stockings cannot be worn on themselves, they are part of the starry underwear and it would be nice to keep them together. You can do that by linking the appliers together. Rez both appliers on the ground and line them up. Now hold your Shift and click both appliers and click the Link Button.

If you look closely you will notice an imperfection on the arms. The fur rim stops abruptly and isn’t complete. Most mesh bodies have the hands separately attached. In this case the fur rim crosses the border between the arms and the hands. Hands (and feet) not always have the possibility to apply clothing layers. If you would want to add for instance gloves (or socks) you would have to use the tattoo layer. In this case I would change the applier for the jumpsuit to apply the top part on the tattoo layer.Linking all appliers together it would look like this:

Example 5 – jacket, dress & underwear with stockingsThis last example is going to be a challenge. The outfit has a 1 texture jacket, a skirt made out of a lower and upper part, a corset top and pants part and stockings and we can only use the 6 layers from the appliers. Upper Top, Upper Bra and Upper Tattoo + Lower Pants, Lower Undies and Lower Tattoo. Before clicking to the next page, try to solve this problem yourself…..

The solution one could come up with is:Jacket > Upper Top LayerSkirt > Upper Bra Layer + Lower Pants LayerCorset > Upper Tatt + Lower Undies LayerStockings> Lower Tatt Layer

This seems a good solution although there is one technical problem here. As we all know when we work with alpha channels on prims, second life has problems blending two or more alpha layers: part of the texture disappears. This is what could happen when you are putting 3 layers with alpha channel textures on top of each other, since these layers are mesh (read prim) layers. You can see the top part of the skirt is not showing.

It would be better if we could blend the 3 layers (jacket, corset top and upper skirt part) together in a graphical program and use only that onetexture on the Omega Upper Top layer. We could pack two different sets, one for the outfit + stockings and one for the corset

Blending the clothing layers together must be done in a graphical program that support layers, like Photoshop, GIMP, Photoshop Elements, CorelDraw or Paint Shop Pro. If you have the psd files you probably would want to work from there, but if you don’t I can show you an easy way to fix this problem.

Step 1 – download the textures as a png file to your hard disk

Step 2 – open your graphical program and create a new file 1024x1024 pixels with transparent background

Step 3 – drag the downloaded textures in the correct order on the newly created file. Hold your SHIFT key to make sure they end up precisely in the middle

Step 4 – save the 3 layers to a new png file and upload this to Second Life
