22.06.20TRAVEL PLANS

• As we can’t travel anywhere just yet we can plan a pretend trip instead! Imagine the Olympic games were going ahead this year and you were planning to travel to Tokyo, Japan with your family.

• For today’s task you need to plan your travel including:

Flights

Travel costs to the airport (if you can find- train prices, car parking fees)

Accommodation for 2 weeks

Plan your trip from 1st-15th August

• What is the cheapest price you can get this for? Do different flight times have an impact on price? Does it make a difference if you change airports, how much would it cost you to travel to the airport, does this make a difference?

• What changes could you make to your plans if you actually had a budget of £8000? Perhaps you can upgrade your flights or your accommodation, or maybe you could take a whole other person!

24.06.20 PARTY PLANNING

• Back to the budget planning today!

• No Olympics would be complete without an opening games ceremony! Imagine you are hosting your very own party for the class. You need to plan for:

A party of 30 guests

Food

Drink

Decorations for one large room

Invitations

Plan for three scenarios:

1. A £500 budget

2. A £800 budget

3. A £1000 budget

For each scenario give a break down cost of everything you need to buy.

Challenge

Choose one budget and write a pitch to the finance department explaining why they should give you the

money for the goods you have chosen. Think about:

• What benefits will this party provide?

• How have you tried to save money?

• How will it support learning and a positive learning environment?

25.06.20OLYMPIC PROBLEM SOLVING: TIME

• It takes athletes 45 minutes to travel to the Arena from the Olympic Village. If their event starts

at 09h30, what time do they need to leave?

• A runner takes 4 minutes 35 seconds to run once around the track. How long will it take him

to go around three times?

• Six athletes compete in the 800 metres event. Four runners complete the event, but two suffer

injuries, with one dropping out half way and the other getting three quarters of the way before

stopping. What was the total distance run by all of them together?

• Sally takes the 419 bus, but it breaks down at Tavern Road. She will have to walk the rest of the

way – how long has she got?

• Peter takes the 307 bus and arrives at the Arena on time. The first event has been delayed by

20 minutes. How long a wait does he have?

• If Sally started her journey at River Walk, how long would she spend on the bus?

• How much earlier will the 307 reach the Arena than the 419?

• Peter catches the 307 at Green Street, but leaves the bus at the Town Centre, as he fancies a

walk. How long a bus journey has he had? How long has he got for his walk before he’s late

for the event?
