HISTORY OF THE HALL

Vision for OLHOF starts in 1992• In 1992 a core group of people

initiated the development of the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum – the Steering Committee formed

• It took 7 years to be operational

• Ontario Lacrosse community raised over $200,000.00 to meet the commitment along with the federal, provincial and municipal governments.

• Steering Committee worked on government permits, the funding and fundraising, for purchasing the necessary cabinetry, the display units

Indigenous Involvement• The Steering Committee

recognized the importance of Indigenous Involvement

• A meeting was called with representatives attending from:

• Six Nations,

• Oneida, • Seneca,

• Algonquin,• Seneca

• Onandoga

The OLHOF incorporates in 1994• The Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame

and Museum incorporated in 1994 to preserve our historical and cultural heritage

• provides and operates a public museum

• offers educational programs, seminars, activities and forums designed to increase the public's appreciation and awareness of the game from the past to the present.

• mandate is to collect, maintain, preserve, educate and purchase historical and cultural artifacts and keep these artifacts available for the public.

THE MUSEUM

LOCATION

• The hall is located in the city of St. Catharines and is housed in the Welland canals centre in lift lock #3 on the Welland Canal.

• We share our museum along with the St. Catharines Museum.

VISITORS• Over 600,000 visitors to the St.

Catharines Museum• Visitors have come from 30 different

countries, including from every Province and Territory of Canada, and from 49 different US States.

• Average number of visitors per year to the OLHOF Museum = 40,000

• A visitor ‘counter’ has been installed

INDUCTION

• Inductees are announced in July• Induction Banquet is held in conjunction

with the OLA AGM Banquet• Inductees are honoured at a Ring

Presentation at the Museum at an afternoon reception

• Inductees are added to the OLHOF Website, which has a searchable database of all Inductees

The Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum’s annual Fundraiser is a Golf Tournament

This year it will be held at Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville

Complete the Nomination Form• Your information as Nominator

• Information about Nominee and their contribution to Ontario Lacrosse

• Upload a Picture

Click SubmitThe nomination form will be submitted to the Selection Committee

PATHWAY OF A OLHOF NOMINATION

Nomination Received by April 15• Nominations are given to the

Selection Committee Chairperson

• Qualifying nominations are put into the library

• The 11 Member Selection Committee reviews all new nominations

• New nominations must spend 1 year in the library prior to consideration

• Nominations are considered for induction for a period of 3 years, if they are not inducted they are returned to the library

The Ballot• The Members of the Selection

Committee send their choices of nominations out of the library to the Selection Committee Chair

• Choices are discussed and added to the Ballot. The Ballot must contain:

• 9 Players• 9 Builders• 4 Veterans

• Each member of the Selection Committee then votes for 6 possible Inductees on the nominations on the Ballot, and the nominees with the most votes will be inducted that year

Chairperson contacts the Inductee in May to inform them of their impending Induction, and the Press Release naming all Inductions is released June 15

• Inductees are sent a package in July/August with the Induction Ring Presentation Reception and Induction Dinner Information

• The Induction Dinner is held in conjunction with the OLA Annual General Meeting Banquet, the Ring Presentation Reception held earlier in the afternoon at the Museum

ARTIFACTS

Purpose - CollectionsTo collect, record, preserve, interpret and exhibit artifacts and archival material related to the history of Lacrosse in Ontario

Key considerationsMaterial collected must have historical significance and contribute to a clearer understanding or interpretation of some aspects of the game of lacrosse or the people honoured in the Hall of Fame

Considerations for donations. Accessions Committee will make the final decisions to accept or reject donations

. A donation will only be accepted as an outright gift

. The Hall of Fame will not be obligated to exhibit any item accepted for the permanent collection
