Section 1 - INTRODUCTION

1.1 - General Information

This manual provides user information on the installation of the Advanced Sensors Ltd

OIW-SA Series of Oil in Water Monitor Systems. These systems are designed to monitor the residual

hydrocarbon content of Produced Water.

The measurement technique used is Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) This fluorescence value is

used to determine the proportion of hydrocarbons in the water.

To overcome the problem of contamination of the optical path, a proprietary ultrasonic self-cleaning

technique has been incorporated which will operate periodically. The cleaning process is user-

configurable to accommodate a wide variation of environmental conditions.

The equipment has a user friendly windows based display providing a wealth of information. Industry

standard outputs include a 4-20 mA output as a measurement of oil content over a configured range

and an Ethernet port over which the user can either receive data, or remotely control the unit.

Should you have any questions or comments regarding anything within this manual, please contact us

1.2 - Health & Safety (General)

1. The equipment is designed for use in safe areas only

2. Always disconnect the power to the system prior to opening the unit

3. Warning labels on the equipment and packaging must be observed

4. Installation must only be carried out by suitably trained personnel, in accordance with the

information in this manual, and under local Health and Safety procedures

5. Safety precautions must be taken when working with associated pipe work that may be subjected

to internal pressure or high temperatures

6. There are no user-serviceable parts within the unit; there should be no requirement for the door to

be opened with power applied other than for installation and servicing. All servicing, installation

and repairs must be carried out by the manufacturer or their representative. Any unauthorized

repairs or modifications will not be under-written by the manufacturer

7. If any physical damage occurs to the enclosure, display window or connection glands, then the

power must be removed immediately and the manufacturer or their representative contacted for

servicing

8. The equipment must only be installed and operated as instructed in this document; failure to

comply with these instructions may compromise the equipments protection features leading to

potentially dangerous consequences or, it may cause the system to not operate correctly

9. An annual service is recommended and should only be performed by the vendor (Advanced

Sensors Ltd.) or their approved agent to ensure ongoing optimum performance

10. There are two variants of the system which are designed to operate off either a nominal 115VAC

or 230VAC supply. It is the responsibility of the installer to ensure compliance with the regional

requirements for electrical safety regarding the provision of a compliant earth, earth bonding,

adjacent electrical isolation and circuit protection. The equipment should positioned so that it the

disconnecting device can be easily operated. For this equipment, the disconnecting device is the

mains plug

NOTE: Ensure the correct voltage supply is available on site before commencing installation.

1.3 - Optical Safety

The system uses a Class 3R laser as part of its measurement process. The light from this source is

contained within the measurement chamber and is safe during normal operation.

The laser is clearly labelled as shown below in Figure 1:

Section 2 - Components The standard equipment product comes pre-assembled from the factory and is typically supplied as

shown in Figure 2:

Figure 2: SA Unit

The system is made up of the following sub-assemblies:

1. OIW-SA100/1000 unit with internal PC/Touch Screen/SDD

2. One piece measurement chamber including calibration port and sample extraction point

3. Measurement chamber viewing window

The unit is shipped with the following documents:

• Installation Manual (this document)

• General Assembly Drawing (GAD)

• Hook-Up (Wiring) diagram

On receipt, all items should be checked to ensure that no damage or loss has occurred in transit.

Any anomalies should be reported within 3 working days of delivery to Advanced Sensors Ltd. using

the address details in Section 1.1

Section 3 - Installation 3.1 - Site Requirements

To facilitate for accurate calibration lab sample should be taken from the sample extraction point

located on the analyzer pipe work assembly shown below in Figure 3:

Figure 3: Calibration & Sample Points

There is also a Calibration Port on the chamber to facilitate laboratory or field calibration and this is

shown above.

The following items are also required on site for the installation:

• Suitable Mains supply cable (minimum rating 6.3A 3 core cable)

• 2-wire cable for the 4-20 mA connection (if required)

• Ethernet Cat 5 cable for remote access (if required)

CAUTION: The unit weighs approximately 22kg and appropriate care should be taken when lifting the unit.
