JARRED MARTIN HEAD COACH | 1ST SEASON at OHIO STATE

Jarred Martin, who spent the last 10 season on the coaching staff at Duke University, was named Ohio State’s head coach on Dec. 16, 2016. “We are very excited to welcome Jarred to the Buckeye family,” said Shaun Richard, Associate AD for Sport Administration. “He’s been around winning cultures his entire career and helped to build Duke into an elite program. He’s also had the opportunity to coach the nation’s highest-level athletes with USA Field Hockey. Those combined experiences make him uniquely qualified to lead our field hockey program. I’m thrilled our student-athletes will have the op-portunity to learn and grow in all aspects of their lives under his guidance.” Martin, the Blue Devils’ associate head coach, helped the Blue Devils achieve the No. 1 overall seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils finished 16-4 overall, won the ACC regular season title and produced two All-Americans. Under Martin’s tu-telage, Duke’s offense ranked in the top 10 nationally in goals per game (3.35), assists per game (3.15) and points per game (9.85). The Blue Devils scored four or more goals in a game on five occasions during the 2016 season and had seven players finish with double figure points. “I am truly grateful and excited to be named the head coach at The Ohio State University,” said Martin. “You come to a place like Ohio State to work with some of the best student-athletes in the world. I am looking forward to bringing my playing and coaching experiences, as well as my love for this sport, to the team. I can’t wait to get started. “I would like to thank Shaun Richard, Gene Smith and the search committee for giving me this oppor-tunity. They believe in my vision for this program and understand what I will bring to this team every day as we play to compete in the Big Ten and national scene. My hope is that our student-athletes walk away from their experience at Ohio State with a deep love for this program, their teammates and this university.” Since his first season in 2007, Duke amassed a re-cord of 124-79 as Martin helped guide the program to seven NCAA Tournament appearances and Final Four berths in 2013 and 2015 (the 2013 squad played in the

NCAA championship game). During that time, Duke produced 16 All-Americans, 32 All-South honorees and 19 All-ACC picks. He was promoted to associate head coach before the 2013 season. “I would also like to thank [head coach] Pam Bus-tin, [senior associate athletics director and SWA] Jacki Silar, and the Duke field hockey team for my time at Duke,” said Martin. “It is a place that I have called home for the past 10 years and I will treasure so many great memories I have experienced over that time.” Prior to his arrival at Duke, Martin served as an assistant coach at Skidmore College, where he led the Thoroughbreds to three Liberty League titles and two runner-up finishes as well as five NCAA Tourna-ment appearances, including a trip to the Final Four. In addition, he coached 10 All-America selections, two league player of the year choices and one ECAC Player of the Year pick. Martin’s coaching experience also reaches be-yond the collegiate level as he is involved in the U.S. coaching system. He was named the United States Junior Women’s High Performance head coach for the U17 squad in June of 2015 after serving as an assistant coach with the team for five years. He also works with the South High Performance Training Center (HPTC), which won the Women’s’ National Championships in May of 2014. Martin earned a Level III Accreditation from USA Field Hockey in the sum-mer of 2010. Martin, a native of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., retired from the U.S. Men’s National field hockey squad in the spring of 2012 after 12 seasons with the team. As the starting center forward, Martin traveled to over 25 countries on four continents representing the United States. One of the team leaders in goals and caps, he competed in three Pan American Games, two Olympic Qualifiers, two World Cup Qualifiers and three Pan American Cups. He ended his career with 104 caps. A graduate of the University at Albany, Martin earned a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry in 2005 after receiving Dean’s List recognition each semester and graduating magna cum laude. He com-pleted a masters in sports administration in May, 2012.
