Report No. I- Sabbath.

Nothing is clearer than that the Sabbath was instituted of God. Its continued observance is enforced by not only the Fourth Commandment, but by the results of its obse rvance a like on the individual, the family and the nation.

One year s ince we placed ourselves on reconl with the vast number of remonstrants and petitioners against the opening of the Columbian Exposition on the Sabbath.

But our remonstrance, with the remonstrances of millions beside, was unavailing.

Therefore, R esolved. That we cannot but deprecat e this act on the part of the Manag-ers of the Columbian Exposition to .~eculari ze this h oly institution.

Resolved , That we will continue our endeavors to arrest Sabbath desecration by preaching expressly on the s ubj eet to our congregations and by setting a consisten t example before our people.

Believing the Sunday School Union and Tract Societies of our rch are val•iable agencies in their special lines of Christian work,

nating liberal Sunday School and Tract supplies to needy charges n application, we urge upon all our charges and people the impor

t yeal' have reported collections for the Sunday School Union, and for the Tract Cause, and would press upon all pastors the impor-ce of correcting this in the future. J. G. BONNELL,

Report No. 13-Committee on Education .

The highest type of Chri,.,tianity consists with the highest intellect-1 attainments. Religion and Education are neces,,ary for the best elopment. Methodism was born in a University. and devotees of rning stood about its cradle and trained minds and >Strong· hands e guided its phenomenal progress to this day of learning. Institu-

of learning of all grades appear as the pledge of the Church's deIon to education. Our institutions are not designed to train the mind

and leave the heart to lie a dreary moral waste. They seek to develop the entire man worthward. Time and space forbids m0re than a brief mention of such as are 11earest to our territory.

U. S. GRANT l'NIVERSITY.

We rejoice in the continued suceess of U. 8. Grant University, over which our beloved Bishop Joyce presides as Chancellor. It is situated in a most healthful region. (Athens and Chattapooga. Tenn.,) and possesse,., facilities for instruction in all the highest branches.

Believing that the demands of the times require a cultured university, we heartilo commend the theological department to such young men as feel called to the work and grave responsibilities of the pastorate.

\\'e recommend that the Presiding Elders-be appointed visitors to the Theological Department.

THE WOMAN'S COT.T,F.GE OF BALTIMORE.

Nowhere, we believe, are to be found better facilities for the thorough education and accotnplishment of young ladies, than in this splendidly equipped institution.

The faculty is composed of specialists in their respective depart-ments.

'l'he endowment is large, growing. and available for constant use . The course of :>tudy i,., equal in all respects to 'hat of any first cla;,s

institution. The location offers superior advantages of climate, society and op

portunity for improyement, while the religious influence,.; are marked and uuusualiy strong. Those having dau.;hten; to educate will do well to patronize the ·woman's College of Baltimore.

CHIT,DRENS' DAY.

The proper observance of Children's Day is well calculated to increase liberality and in,,ure a greater interest in the work of our education~! institutions. We therefore uq~e the importance of appropriate services on that day. Let all the children be intere,..ted and a collection be taken in every charge.
