When PFN Ron Schoof submitted the paperwork to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton he knew we might run into some problems with the various dates. What came back as the response to his requests was quite unexpected. The most unexpected was when we were told that we couldn’t use the facilities there for our garage sale which is our only fund raising activity for the fraternal year. But we also ran into problems with dates for the Fall Ball as well as our Steak Knight. We had 10 Sir Knights meet on Saturday July 11 th to discuss the proposed budget and calendar for the fraternal year. If you have a suggestion about fund raising, please feel free to contact myself, Captain Bob Wilson, Admiral Ron Schoof or our Trustees Mike Greene, David Duff and Paul Krusac. If we all work together we can meet and beat this and other challenges that may be thrown at us in the new fraternal year. Our Color Corps will again be led by Bill Ptacek with his Deputy Color Corps Commanders Jim Massey and Paul Krusac. With the Diocesan Corporate Communion cancelled for this fraternal year some councils may be scampering to come up with a fourth Corporate Communion. Please advise your councils of the cancellation, confirmed by Diocesan Deputy Roger Scott, and remind them to contact Bill Ptacek to schedule any events were they wish the Color Corps to be present. We are also looking for some new Color Corps members. We need you to be present for more than the events of your council. I invite all members of the Christopher Columbus Assembly to join the Color Corps. It is a decision I am sure you won’t regret. Sir Knights!

The Christopher Columbus Assembly is no stranger to

challenges and this coming fraternal year will be one to

challenge us all. When PFN Ron Schoof submitted the

paperwork to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton he knew we might run

into some problems with the various dates. What came back

as the response to his requests was quite unexpected. The

most unexpected was when we were told that we couldn’t use

the facilities there for our garage sale which is our only fund

raising activity for the fraternal year. But we also ran into

problems with dates for the Fall Ball as well as our Steak

Knight. We had 10 Sir Knights meet on Saturday July 11th to

discuss the proposed budget and calendar for the fraternal

year. If you have a suggestion about fund raising, please feel free to contact myself,

Captain Bob Wilson, Admiral Ron Schoof or our Trustees Mike Greene, David Duff and

Paul Krusac. If we all work together we can meet and beat this and other challenges that

may be thrown at us in the new fraternal year.

Our Color Corps will again be led by Bill Ptacek with his Deputy Color Corps

Commanders Jim Massey and Paul Krusac. With the Diocesan Corporate Communion

cancelled for this fraternal year some councils may be scampering to come up with a

fourth Corporate Communion. Please advise your councils of the cancellation, confirmed

by Diocesan Deputy Roger Scott, and remind them to contact Bill Ptacek to schedule any

events were they wish the Color Corps to be present. We are also looking for some new

Color Corps members. We need you to be present for more than the events of your

council. I invite all members of the Christopher Columbus Assembly to join the Color

Corps. It is a decision I am sure you won’t regret. I know that I haven’t regretted my

involvement with the Color Corps and the many friendships that have further developed

by getting to better know my brother Sir Knights and their families.

Charting the Waters (Cont’d)

As many of you know the officers of our assembly were installed at a ceremony at St. Jude’s in Allen on Sunday

June 28, 2015. The officers for the Denney-McCullough Assembly # 1601, the Notre Dame Assembly # 2144,

the Mother Teresa Assembly # 2506, the Father Michael J. McGivney Assembly # 3004 and the new St. John

Paul II Assembly # 3553 as well of those of our own assembly were installed in a single ceremony.

Unfortunately, this precluded the presentation of awards by any of the assemblies and the inclusion of all assem-

bly members and their families that might have desired to attend. We have decide to use our August 24, 2015

meeting to allow the award recipients of our assembly for the 2014 – 2015 fraternal year to be recognized. The

current plan is to have a cocktail time from 6:00 – 6:30 PM followed by a catered dinner in McGivney Hall at

St. Mark’s Parish Center. At the conclusion of the dinner we will have the awards ceremony followed by social

time for the wives while the Sir Knights have our monthly business meeting. I promise the meeting will be

short but will cover everything of interest to you. We expect the cost of the dinner to be around $15.00 per per-

son but reservations will be required so that we can get an accurate count to the catering company.

We also need to begin preparing for the October 2nd exemplification that will take place at the Marriott Quorum

in Addison. This will be the first year for this new location and I have been advised that we may be hosting the

Hospitality Suite for this and next year’s event. Start making plans to be part of this year’s exemplification and

bring your spouse to this very special weekend. I look forward to welcoming you to Addison which just hap-

pens to be where I reside. While you are at it, please talk to those members of your council that you feel would

benefit from becoming a member of the Christopher Columbus Assembly. Although our Faithful Admiral Ron

Schoof has the duty of growing the membership, he definitely needs all of us to pitch in and give him a helping

hand. Please see me or our Comptroller Jim Sammons for the brochure and reservation form for this year’s Fall

Exemplification.

Vivat Jesu!

COMMITTEE OF 1,000 By Mike Greene

The Committee of 1000 is a program which funds incidental expenses for seminarians in the Diocese of Dallas.

All funds collected are given to the Director of Vocations for the Dallas Diocese, Fr. Edwin Leonard for distri-

bution to seminarians in need. This is an important program, as these seminarians do not have a "full boat" col-

lege scholarship with all the trimmings nor do all of them have family resources to help them in their needs.

Recently Council 13520 collected money to help one of the seminarians buy a winter coat. Yes, seminarians get

cold too.

These pins show YOUR support for our seminarians, especially those who the Assembly supports through the

RSVP Program. The pins are $10 each. Show you care. Support vocations, your future depends upon it. If your

Council does not have any pins, see our Faithful Trustee Mike Greene who always has some pins.

COLOR CORPS COMMANDER’S REPORT We had a pretty busy June with the Color Corps (CC)

practice, the Patriotic Rosary at St. Mark, and a couple

Corporate Communions, and I want to thank all that par-

ticipated. I wish more of the CC had attended the CC

practice, especially the new members. I also want to es-

pecially thank those CC members that turned out for the

Plano Independence Day Parade (4th of July). It was a

hot and muggy day, but please be aware that St. Mark

Council 6065 greatly appreciates your support.

There are no Color Corps events scheduled for the re-

mainder of July, at this time, and the following are the

events scheduled for August:

August 15, Council 13520’s Corporate Communion at All Saints at the 5:00 PM Mass.

August 15, Council 7850’s Corporate Communion at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton at the 5:00 PM

Mass. Yes, it’s the same date and time as Council 13520’s, but the Color Corps members at

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton will cover their Mass and DCCC Jim Massey will command the Col-

or Corps there.

August 23, Council 6065’s Corporate Communion at St. Mark at the 9:00 AM Mass.

I’d still like to see a better turnout by our current Color Corps members. If you have regalia, we need

your help, and I’d appreciate your support even if the event is outside your home Parish. The regulars

aren’t always available to carry the load. You spent a lot of money to buy regalia, so why not put it to

good use.

I want to emphasize that the invitation to join the Color Corps is open to all of our Assembly mem-

bers. If you’d like to give the Color Corps a try before making a commitment, please contact one of

us listed below. We can get you involved without a formal practice, and we have a limited amount of

“loaner regalia,” so you can give it a try before becoming a full-fledged member. Call or send me an e

-mail at [email protected], or contact Jim or Paul at the numbers listed below. Please consider

joining this highly visible arm of the Knights of Columbus. I think you would find it enjoyable, and

the camaraderie is great!

On behalf of my Deputy Color Corps Commanders (DCCCs) listed below, please know that it’s our

pleasure and honor to serve you. Our new Faithful Navigator Jack Ayers has asked us to continue in

our positions, so I guess he thinks we’re doing something right. We would like to have you on the

Color Corps Team also.

Fraternally,

Bill Ptacek Jim Massey Paul Krusac

bly # 3004 and St. John Paul II Assembly # 3553 as well of those of our own assembly were installed in a single

ceremony. After the Installation the new officers and the District Master with his staff had a BBQ dinner. Pic-
