Safety RegulationsFederal OSHA In 1970 the Occupational Safety and Health Act The mission of OSHA “is to prevent work-related injuries,

illnesses, and deaths”

California OSHA The California Occupational Safety and Health Act was

enacted in 1973 to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for Californians

California State Labor Code: Every employer shall furnish employment and a place of

employment that is safe and healthful for the employees therein.

Ergonomics

Ergonomics is the study of the relationship between people and the work they perform.(RMI) Repetitive Motion Injuries can affect:-Upper and lower arms & elbows-Wrists, hands, and fingers-Shoulders and neck-Chest, abdomen and other areas-May occasionally affect lower limbs & back

HAZCOM STANDARD FEDERAL AND STATE LAW

You have a right to know about the hazards in your workplace• Applies to all District employees who may be exposed to

hazardous substances.• OEHS evaluates and approves all chemical products to be used in

the District.• You can obtain material safety data sheets (MSDS) on-line from

OEHS website.• Don’t bring household cleaning materials to schools.• Request hazardous waste disposal from OEHS.

Asbestos and Lead• General Rule:

Do not disturb any painted surfaces or any building material in the schools unless you are trained to do so. It could be lead or asbestos containing material. When in doubt call ATU (Asbestos Technical Unit) at 213-745-1450 or look at your Asbestos Management Plan.
