FR. RON’S REFLECTIONSThis weekend we welcome Bishop Robert Fisher to St. Isidore. Bishop Fisher is presiding at the Confirmation Liturgy for our ninth graders on Saturday evening. As you know, it is through Confirmation that our young people complete their initiation into the Catholic Church. Our young people have much to contribute to our parish life, and we need to give them a warm welcome and our support. A major way we receive their gifts and offer them our support is through our Youth Ministry program. Hopefully, our Confirmandi and their parents do not view Confirmation as a sort of “graduation” from their faith formation, but rather the beginning of their life and discipleship as fully-initiated members of our community. It is though our Youth Ministry that they continue to grow in their faith through engagement with our parish community and building friendships with their peers. We have a great group of young people participating in Youth Ministry. We thank our parishioners for their generous support of our Youth Ministry. We also acknowledge and thank all in our Faith Formation program who have ministered to our Confirmandi through the years in preparation for Confirmation.

OCTOBER 27, 20193 30TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

CONNECTING POINTWe can all be arrogant, so how can I cast mine off?

Arrogance can be defined as “unpleasantly behaving as if you are more important than, or know more than others.” There are times when each one of us can be arrogant or have arrogant thoughts. The Pharisees were arrogant.  They let their inflated opinions of themselves as well as their rules make it impossible for them to have genuine relationships with others.

Whenever we set ourselves higher than someone else, a neighbor, a co-worker, a classmate, another driver on the road, a shopper ahead of us in line, we become like social scribes or Pharisees, and any interaction or even thoughts are rooted in our pride, vanity, or personal righteousness. Arrogance causes the breakdown of relationship. How can we get over our prideful selves and just genuinely love others?

An antonym for Arrogance is Humility. Christ was all about entering into relationships…even with lepers, adulteresses and tax collectors as well as his oftentimes confused and dense disciples. If we are truly trying to be the best version of ourselves that God intends for us to be…. we need to focus all we do through our humility rather than our hubris.

“True humility is not thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less.”RICK WARREN, THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE.

Relationships begin with each one of us. Peace does not come from comparisons and nor does it come from everyone agreeing with one another on everything. True peace is possible only when people agree to live in harmony despite their differing viewpoints. We are all the sum-total of our experiences and we all see things differently because of the unique way each of us is created.  God loves each one of us as if we are the only one.

If we are truly trying to be the best version of ourselves that God intends for us to be….and have a God-purpose driven life, we need to focus all we do through our humility rather than our hubris.

Pray for a life lived in humility and grace in the name of Jesus.

-Amy Righi

FR. RON’S REFLECTIONSPrayer was an important part of Jesus’ life. In the Gospel of Luke, from which our Gospels at Sunday Mass have been taken during the current Liturgical Year, Luke reports more occasions of Jesus praying than he does performing miracles. The form of Jesus’ prayer was “contemplation” or “meditation,” a very common form of prayer in his day. In this form of prayer, through an extended period of silence, we become one with God’s own light or consciousness. This is quite different from the way most of us pray, in which we pray “verbally,” “saying” prayers. It is good to engage in both forms of prayer. However, many of us have not learned how best to meditate. We are not comfortable with extended periods of solitude to connect with God’s Spirit within us Happily, Lisa Chretien, a parishioner and “Mindfulness” or “Meditation” teacher, has offered to hold classes on this form of prayer. The hour-long sessions will be offered on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM and again at 6:30 PM beginning the first Wednesday in November. I strongly urge you to join us if possible. I guarantee that it will have a great impact on your spiritual growth! Look for more details in next week’s bulletin.

I love Halloween! What I love most about it is the hospitality. We turn on our lights and welcome strangers (especially strangers!) into our homes, and offer them treats. It must be much of what heaven is like.

And mentioning heaven, don’t forget to join us this Friday to celebrate All Saints Day!

Have a Boo-tiful Halloween,Fr. Ron

“Each of us has a unique mission in this life. It is vitally important that we do it. Perhaps our lives seem “ordinary.” But the little things we do for others are not unimportant. A kind word or an offer to help can be a saving grace for others. Our prayer and charitable actions directly participate in the saving work of Jesus, no matter how seemingly insignificant.” MSGR. ST. PETER & PAUL WARMING CENTERThe Warming Center provides drinks and food, use of a phone, and a place to have mail delivered. Showers and laundry service are available along with socks, underwear and other practical items. There are fifteen volunteers and six paid staff members. Once a week medical and nursing students provide care and blood pressure checks.

BABY PANTRYSt. Isidore’s Baby Pantry has provided diapers, formula and baby food for 20 + families this year and we are growing. They service Macomb Township and surrounding townships and cities. ST. ISIDORE FAMILIESThese families live within our parish boundaries, who struggle to make ends meet. Now that Christmas is around the corner, they desperately need some extra help. Last year the Christmas Giving Tree helped families, adults and children with gift certificates. We hope to do the same this year.

NATIVITY CHURCHNativity Church, in Detroit, has been the sister church of St. Isidore for many years. We have been helping them financially to sustain the parish and promote the Catholic Faith in and around them.

ST. MAXIMILIAN AND ST. ALOYSIUSSt. Isidore also donates to these churches, to a lesser amount, depending on our Christmas Tree collection totals.

Whether you’ve been newly diagnosed, have been fighting against type 1 or type 2 diabetes for a while, or are helping a loved one, it is important to gain a deeper understanding of how you can live a healthier life—with all the tools, health tips, and food ideas you need. Wherever you’re at with this disease, know that you have options and that you don’t have to be held back. You can still live your best life. All you have to do is take action and stick with it.

Type 1 DiabetesHere’s what you need to know about type 1 diabetes. 1.25 million Americans have it and 40,000 people will be diagnosed with it this year. Type 1 diabetes occurs at every age, in people of every race, and of every shape and size. There is no shame in having it, and you have a community of people ready to support you. Learning as much as you can about it and working closely with your diabetes care team can give you everything you need to thrive.

In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the carbohydrates you eat into blood sugar that it uses for energy—and insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. With the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, everyone can learn to manage their condition and live long healthy lives. Remember: this is a condition that can be managed. By living a healthy lifestyle filled with exercise and proper diet, you can live a normal life and do everything you set out to do.

Type 2 DiabetesType 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes—and it means that your body doesn’t use insulin properly. And while some people can control their blood sugar levels with healthy eating and exercise, others may need medication or insulin to help manage it. Regardless, you have options—and tools, resources, and support to help you fight.

A key part of managing type 2 diabetes is maintaining a healthy diet. You need to eat something sustainable that helps you feel better and still makes you feel happy and fed. Remember, it’s a process. Work to find helpful tips and diet plans that best suit your lifestyle—and how you can make your nutritional intake work the hardest for you. Fitness is another key to managing type 2. And the good news, all you have to do is get moving. The key is to find activities you love and do them as often as you can. No matter how fit you are, a little activity every day can help fight type 2 and put yourself in charge of your life.

“The only time our Lord asked the Apostles for anything was the night He went into agony. Not for activity did He plead but for an hour of companionship.” (Archbishop Fulton Sheen)

The Holy Spirit, through the assistance of the Worship Commission and the Parish Leadership Team, would like to invite you to join the Adoration Team and commit one hour of private prayer before the most Holy Eucharist.

The exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is available every Tuesday immediately following morning Mass and concludes with Benediction at 6:00 pm. The Chapel is located in the Resource Center which is the first door on the right after entering through the Rosary Garden entrance.

There is no formal format to private Eucharistic Adoration. Say the Rosary or

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

your favorite prayers, read scripture, talk to the Lord and share your burdens, or just sit in His presence and let Him speak to you.

There are several people who have committed to certain hours and there are over 40 people who stop in each week and take the time to sign in to the log book. With the upcoming winter months, additional commitments to a specific hour are needed to cover absences and “Snow Bird” vacancies.

Feel free to stop in anytime; spend a few minutes or an hour. If you would like to sign up as a regular Adorer during any time period for the Tuesday hours there is a signup form at www.stIsidore.church/adoration-chapel-signup, contact the office at 586-286-1700, or contact Dave Bisdorf at 586-202-7000 if you have any questions.

Sadly, there are thousands of U.S. Veterans who return to the Detroit area from protecting our Country only to find themselves homeless. The weather will be turning cold and these Veterans will be out on the streets without coats.

The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Assembly #2599 and their ladies group, LOTA, have committed to collecting items for these men and women. There are currently hundreds of homeless Vets located in 9 shelters that will be the first to receive the coats. The coats will be distributed to centers in the Detroit and surrounding areas where the homeless Vets go for treatment and/or shelter.

If you check your closets and find clean and “gently used” men’s and women’s coats that you are no longer wearing and would like to donate them to those who have protected us and our Country, please drop the coats off in a box which will be set up next to the office between November 1st through November 10th.

If you have any questions, please contact Dennis Jarzombek at 586-838-8500 or Chijioki Opariji at 577-914-7223

UTE EVANGELIZATION

The 2019 Parish Day of Renewal, a day of fellowship and formation marking the third anniversary of Synod 16 and the second anniversary of the beautification of Blessed Solanus Casey, will be held at the Suburban Collection in Novi on Friday and Saturday, November 15 and 16.

The first day, designed only for pastors, parish staff members, and parish leadership teams, will explore transforming the parish culture into one of life-changing personal encounter with Jesus Christ and the practical ideas, tools, and resources needed for creating an environment of encounter. The second day is for all who seek to unleash the Gospel by deepening their own relationship with Christ and leading others to encounter Him, and will feature four breakout tracks.

SOLT Sister Miriam James Heidland, a former athlete who had a radical conversion and joined the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity in 1998, will serve as the keynote speaker for both days of this event, which is hosted by the archdiocesan Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools and funded, in part, with gifts to the CSA.
