St. Patrick’s of Tekamah:

“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.” - MATTHEW 22:21-

Everything we are and everything we have belongs to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything; we are merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given each of us. All God is asking is that we give back a portion of what He gave us. This is the essence of Stewardship. God should be our first priority in everything. All else comes second. Children’s good deed: “I said my prayers before bed; I made cookies with Grandma; I folded laundry and put my clothes away.”

Prayer for Harvest

Almighty Lord God, You keep on giving abundance to mankind

in the dew of heaven, and food out of the richness of the soil. We

give thanks to Your most gracious majesty for the fruits of the

field which we have gathered. We beg of You, in Your mercy, to

bless our harvest, which we have received from Your generosity.

Preserve it, and keep it from all harm. Grant, too, that all those

whose desires You have filled with these good things may be

happy in Your protection. May they praise Your mercies forever,

and make use of the good things that do not last in such a way

that they may not lose those goods that are everlasting, through

Christ our Lord. Amen

From Fr. Kevin… On this 29

th Sunday in Ordinary time the first

reading and the gospel speak of the universal

dominion of God over all humanity. In our first

reading from the Prophet, Isaiah, the Lord says,

“I am the Lord and there is no other, there is no

God besides me” (Is. 45:5). This may remind us

of the first of the Ten Commandments: “I, the

Lord, am your God …You shall not have other

gods besides me” (Ex. 20:2, 3). In our first

reading we hear that Cyrus, the king of Persia—

though he does not know God—is the Lord’s

anointed. Even King Cyrus, a pagan, belongs to

God. All human beings belong to the one God.

This is what Jesus implies in our Gospel passage

from St. Matthew: “Repay to Caesar what

belongs to Caesar and to God what belong to

God” (Mt. 22:21). The image of God stamped

on each and every human being means that each

of us belongs to God. Therefore, we owe God

our lives. He is worthy of all our praise and

love. When people encounter me, do they

recognize whom I belong to? Do they see God

in me or the spirit of the world? Peace, Fr.

Kevin

FAITH FACT

What is the meaning of World Mission Sunday? Every year Roman Catholics throughout the world unite at the weekend Masses to celebrate their faith and recommit their baptismal call to be missionaries. World Mission Sunday was established by Pope Pius XI in 1926 with the hope of encouraging zeal among the clergy and laity in supporting the Gospel message everywhere, especially in developing countries and in more than 1,150 mission dioceses. Your support in prayer in prayer and cash donations assist beyond measure. We have a second collection this weekend for World Mission Sunday.

Be aware: Check the bulletin next weekend for the Mass times for All Saints Day ~Wed. November 1st (vigil October 31st).

Just for Today : ♦Just for today, I will not have any expectations about how I should

be treated. I will not compare my pay or status with anyone else. I will

just be glad that I am who I am.

♦Just for today, I will not worry about “what’s in it for me.” I will

think only about what I can do to help out in every situation.

♦ Just for today, when I leave work, I will not dwell on how much I

did or did not get done. Instead, I will look forward to the evening,

and be thankful for whatever I accomplished. (Wall Street Journal – to be continued.)

Daylight Savings Time ends the first weekend in

November. Sunday Mass times will change on Nov.5th. More

details next weekend for Mass times. .
