The theme for this year’s World Teachers’ Day is: "Take a stand for teachers".
This is a clear call to all stakeholders to acknowledge teachers’ crucial role in trans-
forming the lives of learners at all levels of education.
Moreover, the Day should be a time to reflect on the difficult economic and social
context in which teachers work and find ways of improving their professional status
and working conditions and those of all education personnel.

NUTRITION TIP
Mission Fair will be combined with Halloween celebrations this year on Wednesday, October 31 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. Mission Fair is held at St. Mary School every year to raise funds for good causes in our community, Canada and world-wide. The afternoon will be filled with a wide variety of “In Motion” activities! Mummy rac-
es, musical chairs, bake sale, face painting are just a few of the activities being planned! Parents, grandpar-ents, relatives and staff are welcome to join us for the afternoon and to wear Halloween costumes or dress in black and orange! Punch cards will be used to purchase items, play games, etc. A full punch card will be $5.00 (20 punches) punch cards will be sold in any dollar amount (each punch is 25¢). Punch cards will be sold the morning of Mission Fair and throughout the afternoon. Parents often ask how much money to send with their child, this is their prerogative, but an amount of around $5.00 is sufficient.
Instead of throwing away the insides of your pumpkin, make them into a delicious snack. Pumpkin seeds may be small but they are bursting with nutrition. Pumpkin seeds are a good source of fibre and heart healthy fats and ¼ cup counts as a serving of the meat and alternatives food group from Canada’s Food Guide. Follow these easy steps for a tasty treat:
- Separate seeds from pulp. Do not rinse - Toss seeds with 2 tbsp of vegetable oil and sprinkle with salt. - Spread on baking sheet. - Roast in 300 F oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until they are light brown.
CLASS OF THE MONTH Congratulations to our Grade 8 classroom! These students are excellent role
models and take on many responsibilities in our school. This month they were in charge of the IN MOTION challenge
and did a great job motivating the students in the school. They make our school special and a fun place to be.
Congratulations and thank you Miss Artiga and the Grade 8 class!!

Welcome to another great year at St. Mary’s School. We have started an in motion walk every Friday around
the school at 3:15. It helps the kids and
everybody in the school get more active.
Also, this year we are trying to have more in
motion minutes for each class. We are doing
the Terry Fox run on Friday, September 28th.
It is a 5km run. It helps raise money for the
Terry Fox foundation and it helps us at St.
Mary’s school be more active. We are asking
each student to bring a loonie or toonie.
Our school has been doing body breaks from just dance 3 and the whole school really enjoys it. The grades
2/3 really like who let the Dogs Out, from just dance 3. The grade 2/3 presented the gummy bear song at an
assembly. The grade 8 glass will be going on a hike on their leadership retreat. They will also be playing
many in motion games. We are trying to be more in motion and challenge you to be more in motion too. For
the Terry Fox Foundation each class has raised money: Grade 8– $26.88, Grade 6/7- $108.70, Grade 4/5-
$128.71, Grade 2/3– $60.00, Grade 1/2- $61.00, Pre-K & K—$5.50, Staff $45.00.
