PROPOSAL FOR CHANGE TO LIBRARY BORROWING SYSTEM AND READERS

All books (Home Readers and Library Books) are borrowed for a 2 week period.

Home Readers are generally returned and changed every day or two.

Library Books are generally returned and changed every week or two.

CURRENT SYSTEM- the two different kinds of books are “tied together” on the

system. Therefore:

if Library Book is overdue you cannot borrow a home reader or a library

book

if Home Reader is overdue you cannot borrow a home reader or a library

book

PROPOSED CHANGE – will “untie” the two different kinds of books to some

extent so that:

if a Library book is overdue you cannot borrow another Library book but

you can borrow a new Home Reader

if a Home Reader is overdue you cannot borrow another Home Reader

or a Library Book.

DISPUTES:

If a parent or caregiver disputes that a Home Reader is overdue, they can look

for the book in the Home Reader boxes in the classroom. If it is found there, it

can be returned by the classroom teacher and borrowing rights are

automatically reinstated.

If the Home Reader cannot be found there, the parent or caregiver can go to

the Teacher Librarian or Library Assistant. Borrowing Rights can be reinstated

only by the Teacher Librarian or Library Assistant, each of whom have the

capacity to over-ride the system to allow loans to continue. Classroom

teachers cannot over-ride the system.

At this Friday's whole school assembly, we will be entertained by year 3 Winkler. We hope that you can join us at 9:15 a.m.

Business Cards Mrs Supple uses hundreds of “blank-backed” obsolete business cards in her reading program. She urgently needs to replenish her supply for the new school year. Given the recent changes in the public service and the renaming that has occurred there must be lots of these obsolete cards skulking around in dark cupboards. Mrs Supple would really appreciate getting them and they will certainly be usefully recycled.

Thank you Mrs Supple

MEASLES Measles cases are occurring throughout Darwin/Palmerston and Katherine this week and it is likely more cases will occur. Measles can be a serious disease and is very infectious. It presents as a fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes followed by a rash 2 to 4 days later. Children should be vaccinated on time at 12 months of age and 18 months of age. Please ensure all children are vaccinated according to the NT Immunisation schedule and staff born after 1966 who work at your child care centre have been vaccinated with 2 measles, mumps, rubella vaccines. FREE vaccine is available at Community Health Centres and most GPs. If you think you or a child at your centre has measles they should not attend child care and need to be seen by a healthcare professional. Please ring before you attend to tell them you may have measles. For more information speak to your healthcare professional or see the Centre for Disease Control. factsheets: http://www.health.nt.gov.au/library/scripts/objectifyMedia.aspx?file=pdf/45/30.pdf&siteID=1&str_title=Measles.pdf.
