Praying with the body in the Eucharistic Celebration

Dear brothers and sisters,Have you noticed the body postures that we use when we participate in the Eucharistic celebration? In the Eucharist we sit down, stand up, walk (when we arrive, as we receive communion, and as we go forth after the Eucharist), we kneel down, we greet each other during peace, we extend our hands or

open our mouths to receive the Body of the Lord, we sing, we answer, we keep silence. All of this is what we do with our bodies during Mass.

It is very important to be aware of everything we do with our body in the Eucharist because this helps us to understand that we are not only praying with the lips (words), or in the silence of our heart, or that only the priest is the one who speaks at Mass. In the Eucharist our entire body becomes a prayer to live this important moment with God. In other words, we pray with our whole being because our body expresses a prayer that is a search for union with God.

It is very important that we take care of our body and our behavior accord-ing to the place where we are and according to what we want to do in the Eucharist. It is important to live each moment and each expression of our body as an expression of our prayer because everything our body expresses is something that leads us to union with God.

The greatest miracle that occurs in our body during the Eucharistic celebra-tion is that our body joins the body of Jesus when we receive Holy Com-munion. Because when we receive it in communion our body becomes the place where God wants to dwell, and in fact he comes to inhabit our body when we receive Him in communion and when we listen to His Word.

I invite you that when we participate in the Eucharist we do not move in a mechanical way without being aware of what our body postures say as a prayer to God.

Jesus gives us his body, soul and divinity. Can we give him our body and our attention in the Eucharist?

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,No se si se han dado cuenta de las posturas corporales que utilizamos cuando participamos en la celebración eucaristía. En la eucaristía nos sentamos, nos ponemos de pie, caminamos (cuando llegamos, vamos a recibir la comunión, y cuando termina la eucaristía), nos arrodillamos, nos saludamos durante la paz, extendemos las manos o abrimos nuestra boca para recibir el cuerpo del Señor, cantamos, respondemos, guardamos silencio. Todo esto lo hacemos con nuestro cuerpo durante la Misa.

Es muy importante darnos cuenta de todo lo que hacemos en la Eucaristía con nuestro cuerpo porque esto nos ayuda a meditar en que no solamente rezamos con los labios (solamente con palabras), o en el silencio de nuestro corazón, o que solamente el Padre es quien habla en la Misa. En la Eucaristía nuestro cuerpo entero se convierte en una oración para vivir este momento tan importante con Dios. Es decir, oramos con todo nuestro ser porque nuestro cuerpo expresa una oración que es una búsqueda de unión con Dios.

Por eso es muy importante que nos demos cuenta de todo lo que hacemos con nuestro cuerpo en la eucaristía. Y que cuidemos nuestro cuerpo y nuestra conducta de acuerdo al lugar donde estamos y de acuerdo a lo que queremos hacer en la eucaristía. Es importante vivir cada momento y cada expresión de nuestro cuerpo como una expresión de nuestra oración porque todo lo que nuestro cuerpo expresa es algo que nos lleva a la unión con Dios.

El milagro mas grande que ocurre en nuestro cuerpo en la celebración eucarística es que nuestro cuerpo se une al cuerpo de Jesús al recibirlo en la sagrada comunión. Porque cuando lo recibimos en la comunión nues-tro cuerpo se convierte en el lugar donde Dios quiere habitar, y de hecho viene a habitar a nuestro cuerpo cuando recibimos el cuerpo del Señor y cuando escuchamos su Palabra.

Yo les invito a que cuando participemos en la Eucaristía no nos movamos de una manera mecánica sin estar conscientes de lo que nuestra postura corporal dice como oración a Dios.

Jesús nos da su cuerpo, alma y divinidad, ¿le podremos dar nosotros nues-tro cuerpo y nuestra atención en la Eucaristía?
