HERITAGE COMMITTEE: Purpose: Pursue programs to work with partner museums afloat and ashore to develop exhibits to preserve the history of the Supply Corps through displays designed to capture the traditions and customs of the Supply Corps. Further, provide a repository of historical vignettes and publish these stories and photos widely, sharing the incredible accomplishments of the Supply Corps since inception and engendering an appreciation for its rich history. 2018 Accomplishments:

The Heritage Committee had an extremely busy and productive 2018. - The ship display (SD) group headed by fellow board member, CAPT Danny King, SC, USN, expanded the number of participants in the monthly teleconferences with CEOs and other leadership of museum ships from seven to nine. Participating ships now include ex-USS WISCONSIN, ex-USS NORTH CAROLINA, ex-USS INTREPID, ex-USS MIDWAY, ex-USS MISSOURI, ex-USS IOWA, ex-USS MASSACHUSETTS, ex-USS ADAMS and the ex-USS HORNET with solid points of contact for each platform. - Committee developed templates for memoranda of agreements (MOAs), project proposals, and funding requests to formalize initiatives between the Foundation and museum ships - Foundation approved and funded $10K of a total $33K to develop the enlisted galley onboard the ex-USS IOWA. This exciting display is on track to be completed by the end of 2018 with the remaining $23K to be provided by the Foundation. - Three more platforms, ex-USS HORNET, ex-USS INTREPID, and ex-USS MASSACHUSETTS, submitted MOAs for review and signature as well as project proposals for exhibits in 2019. - Began an initiative to sell the Ready for Sea books currently held by the Foundation through partner museum ships. Several ships have expressed interest in selling these books through their stores. - Outreach group (HO), continued to solicit, edit, and submit historical vignettes from individuals telling about singular efforts and contributions of Supply Corps personnel. These stories along with photos were published in the Supply Corps Newsletter to capture our active duty audience, the Oakleaf, to share with our retirees and reservists, as wells as the Foundation’s webpage, Facebook and other social media venues. - Established a new group, the Vintage Oakleaf Club, identifying those Supply Corps Officers 90 years and older who were still living. The intent is to interview and spotlight these individuals in every way feasible as well as the stories they have to share. - One of the goals in 2018 was to propose a curriculum for lectures in Supply Corps history at the Navy Supply Corps School. This goal is still a desired goal, but the target date will be moved to 2019. - The initiative to develop a project proposal for a World War II Supply Corps display in Veterans Park in partnership with the ex-USS MIDWAY in San Diego will be targeted for development and funding in 2021 instead of 2019. - It was determined that the establishment of a permanent Supply Corps Heritage Center will be discussed and developed as an initiative at some future date.

Heritage Outreach - Validate information on our Vintage Oakleaf Club members and interview each of one. - Work with the Foundation’s database manager, the editors of The Oakleaf, The Supply Corps Newsletter, and the Foundation website manager to share the stories of “Vintage’ members. - Efforts to solicit and publish historical; vignettes will continue. - Add additional volunteer(s) to assist group. Chapter Relations Committee (update incoming) 2018 Accomplishments ** From May 2018 BOD update Our overall 2018 goal will be to continue to provide support to the Chapters, to grow our capability at the Foundation, to get maximum use of the CVT funds and to work closely with the other committees to align all efforts that support the Foundation's mission. - Continue to promote a One Entity Global Reach approach to the management of the existing 36 Chapters. The committee will over arch the role of the Foundation and the role of the Chapters and how each is responsible to work under the Foundation's IRS tax status. Our overall objective is to continue to serve the SC community as one team regardless of location. - Shape capability to be seamless in all our activities, fine tune the administrative elements of Chapter Relations to meet the Foundation's and Chapter's needs, execute all committee business in close alignment with the Foundation's other capabilities and other non profits where applicable, and become recognized as one global organization that serves the interest of the Navy Supply Corps Community, under a non federal entity construct. - Grow committee capability by adding another BOD member to the committee and employing a few officers in the field. This team approach will help with the integration and coordination of efforts between the Foundation and the Chapters. - Resource the CSO's attendance at the NSCS's graduations where he represents the Foundation at this first touch point with the new SC Officers. - Promote and use CVT funds to promote the SC community locally at the Chapter level. - Review how to push these resources to Chapters vice responding to requests for these funds. - Continue to support hosting the Presidents at the November meeting. Their engagement there is critical in keeping the organization aligned. ** Oct 2018 preliminary info: Possible Remaining 2018 Goals: - Build SOP for each of the above responsibilities to set the battle rhythm of monthly maintenance. - Build Foundation Brief for use with Chapter Presidents/Supply Corps Officers (AD and retired) in '19. - Review and update the Ops Guide where necessary and review the Bylaws to identify areas that need rework. - Rework FAST to ensure it is what the community needs. - Brief the BOD in November on the CRC way ahead. - Disseminate at November's BOD meeting a one pager to the Chapter Presidents that addresses what the Foundation CRC needs from them: Financial reporting, CVT requests, and CVT execution feedback (stories and photos). - Assist Chapters with the demand signal for information from the Foundation and its committees.

2019 Goals: For 2019, the Chapter Relations Committee will execute at the 2018 levels and focus. However, in the projected budget, there will be a Staff person to be the Chapter Relations Ops Director for the CSO. This will be a game changer for the Foundation in that this position will be responsible for the integration of all Chapters/Foundation program efforts. Potential 2019 Goals: - Take the new Foundation brief on the road (major Chapters first, smaller chapters next) with a goal of getting the message of what the Foundation does for the community into the hands of all AD and Retired Supply Officers. - Investigate funding and hiring a Chapter operations manager that would be the dedicated liaison to all Foundation Committees.
