Message from the Office

Oh my Gosh! How can it be November? We have enjoyed Thanksgiving, Hallowe’en, Cross Country, Intermediate Vol-

leyball, Soccer Intramurals, Character Trait assemblies, Family BBQ, School Council, Professional Development, Fam-

ily Reading, Wonder Club, and so much more!

We congratulate all of our students who demonstrated many forms of Responsibility last month and know that this re-

spectful behaviour will continue throughout the year. Our Character Trait for November is Integrity. Integrity means

that “We are honest, trustworthy and genuine in that our actions match our words.” Please talk to your children about

what integrity looks like in a variety of situations, including at school.

Our Remembrance Day Ceremony is set for 10:45 am on November 11. We welcome all to attend as we honour those

past and present who have served in preserving our freedom.

Our luck continued with excellent weather this fall as we celebrated Hallowe’en with our outdoor parades. It was great

to see a variety of original costumes. Thanks to all who donated treats for class rooms and to those who came out to see

our parades. The Intermediates enjoyed a Hallowe’en Dance and Bake sale.

We hope to see parents at the PARENT POWER conference at Eden High , November 2nd from 4-8 p.m.

This month we look forward to junior volleyball, intermediate volleyball play offs , primary floor hockey intramurals,

Kids Helping Kids, Future Aces and more!

Eye Support for JK Students

Given that 1 Ontario student in 4 has an undetected vision problem that can significantly impact their ability

to learn, a new program – Eye See…Eye Learn – offers a free

pair of glasses to JK students, following an eye examination

(covered through OHIP for students under the age of 19). Find

out more about the program at www.optom.on.ca Thank you

to Dr. Saari for speaking to our 3 Kindergarten classes!

Anaphylaxis Reminder

Halloween poses extra dangers for our students with Nut allergies. Many of the treats we take for granted are life threatening for some Glynn A. Green students. Please be extra vigilant to make sure any Halloween treats that your children received for Hallowe’en and may come to school in your child's lunch are nut free. Thanks for your help in keeping Glynn A. Green a safe place for our students with these allergies.

Absent Students

This is just a reminder to parents/guardians that we need a phone call to let us know if your child will be absent from school. The telephone will take messages at any time. Thank you very much for your consideration.

Thank you SO much to those families that supported our magazine campaign. We raised approximately $3000.00 to go towards school field trips and bussing. Don’t forget that you can order all year round and that $10.00 from every subscription goes to our school. You can order online at QSP.ca and use the code 3715224 You can order magazines, e-books and so much more!

Student council is well on the way to deciding what causes they want to support and offer for our community and school body this coming school year. We are working on reviving our spirit with some real-ly great days planned. Student reps from each class got together to brainstorm the spirit days we could implement. Sock day was our first spirit day and we kicked off our Sockvem-ber drive to collect socks for those in need. Student sprit days will take place on the days of the assemblies so that we can see the GREEN AND GOLD spirit that we have. CRAZY SOCK DAY was a huge success with sooo many participants!!! We loved our school council spirit, kickoff and especially those socks thrown out at the end! Congratulations to Mrs. Downs’ and Mrs. Rigg’s class for the most participation. For November, our Spirit day will

be “Decades.” Which will you choose: 50’s, 60’s,70’s, 80’s,...?

Bullying Awareness Week—November 21-25

We continue to emphasize our focus on a positive culture of peacemaking at Glynn A. Green. We have fo-

cused on mutual respect and responsibility for the months of September and October and have encouraged

all students and staff to treat others as they would like to be treated, and promote active listening. To pre-

vent bullying class mates should stand up for each other and not just stand by. Teachers/staff are on duty at

all times and are available for students to report any forms of bullying. Glynn A Green will make every Mon-

day Pink Shirt Day as a reminder that peaceful resolution is always our goal. This month students completed

a School Climate Survey to help provide feedback on how we can be better. Choose Kind!

Janet Cripps Head of Guidance at E.L. Crossley will visit our grade eight classes on Monday, November 21st to begin to prepare our students for the transition to high school and explain the process of choosing courses for grade 9.

On Monday November 28 at 6:30-8:30pm. E.L. Crossley will hold their

Open House for all students entering high school next September and

their parents. Mark you calendars!

Glynn A Green recently concluded what was likely its’ most successful cross country season. We fielded a

large team that was comprised of runners from all age groups. Especially in Bantam and Midget where num-

bers at many schools decline. The Gators, in addition, qualified the second largest number of runners for the

Board Championships. This is out of about 90 schools. Along the way we won a number of ribbons and med-

als and many runners improved from their previous year’s performance. Special congratulations to Tessa J

and Matthew K. who placed 1st in DSBN.

To participate in this sport it takes a lot of heart and determination. All of the team members demonstrated

both these traits on a regular basis in their training and in competitions.

Team members are: Claire B, Kristina D, Sarah E, Kaitlyn F, Lydia J, Cora M., Scarlett M, Ayla B, Tamar B,

derstanding in number sense and numeration and provides fun, levelled

activities to augment math processes. Research suggests that time on

Dreambox helps students understand math concepts and support daily

math learning. Please encourage your child to work on Dreambox 20

minutes each night. Log on to Dreambox.com and enter your child’s pass-

word. Contact your child’s teacher if you are unsure of the password.

No Child Without Program– Medic Alert Foundation Canada

Character Education Recipients for October-Responsibility

Did you know that one in five children lives with a medical condition, allergy or special need that must be

communicated during a medical emergency? In many cases, children are the most vulnerable because they

are often too young, too afraid or too hurt to express themselves. That’s why Medic Alert Foundation Cana-

da has developed No Child Without—a charitable program that protects children and supports school offi-

cials to address concerns about students living with chronic medical conditions, allergies or special needs.

This program provides children and students attending participating schools, one FREE medic Alert ID and

free medic alert membership coverage between 4 years of age up until their 14th birthday. To date, the No

Child Without program is available across 224 school boards in over 6000 schools. Parents and guardians

should consider this program if their child lives with: 1) a medical condition, 2) allergies and requires the

use of an epinephrine injector, 3) asthma or uses an inhaler or 4) need medication . Please contact the

office for additional information.
