Wednesday, November 11th

Dear Parents, October was an exciting month filled with many activities such as Read-In Week, Thanksgiving Celebration, Picture Day, Crazy Hair/Hot Lunch Day, and the highlight of the year for many children, Halloween! On November 1st, we celebrate Catholic Education Sunday. The gift of Catholic Education is very precious. We need to work together to continue to keep Catholic Education in Alberta: advocate, attend mass and celebrate our faith! The month of November is the month when we remember those who put their own lives at risk so that we may have peace. It is also a time to reflect on the true meaning of peace. Peace begins with each and every one of us: peace in our hearts, our homes, our school, our world. Our Peace Celebration is on November 10th at 9:00 AM in our school gym. Father Romano will be leading our celebration. Please join us as we pray for peace. We remind you that there is no school Wednesday, November 11th. Please note that report cards will be going home on Friday, November 20th and our Celebration of Learning is on Thursday, November 26th. May you enjoy all the blessings and peace the month of November brings. Mrs. Lori McDonough Mrs. Michelle LaFrance Principal Assistant Principal

FIRE DRILLS AND LOCKDOWN PRACTICE

As part of our focus on safety, we have had three fire drill practices since the school start. We have also had one lockdown practice. These drills are done to ensure that our students act confidently and appro-priately in case of an emergency. We will continue to practice these emer-gency procedures throughout the year.

Demonstration of

Learning

Report cards will be sent home on Friday, November 20th and our Demonstration of Learning will be held on Thursday, November 26th from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. and from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. This celebration of learning is an important way of letting you know how your child is do-ing in school. Parents will be invited to spend time with their child going through var-ious activities. We hope all parents can attend!

Safety Over Convenience The safety and security of our students is our first priority. We need your cooperation to en-sure that students arrive and depart safely. We encourage all parents to honor the Bus Zones, Drop Off Zones, and avoid the parking lot when dropping off their children. The safety of all our students is dependent upon everyone’s willing-ness to follow these procedures. We would ask

that you respect the parking

areas. Please do not double park on the road.

We appreciate your support in providing a safe

environment for all children

From the Reading Corner

The school year is in full swing now and I am happy to report that the stu-dents are working very hard. It is important to find time to read each night.

By reading together you can help your child toward a successful future. Snuggle Up with a Good Book… Happy Reading and Listening!

October Kids’ Convention Theme Book: The Day the Crayons Came Home

Elements of the story were shared on morning broadcast throughout the week. Every

teacher developed a session appropriate for Grade 1-6 students. Students were able to

choose from one of the eleven sessions.

Sessions Included:

#1: Rough Color – Students were asked: “How can sandpaper be used as a texture for cre-

ating unique art?” Students explored what types of mediums could be used to create

"Sandpaper Art.”

#5: New Crayon – By being inspired to design new crayons, students were able to mix paint

to create new crayon colors and color names.

#8: Colors of Music - Music - Local singer/songwriter lead students in a lesson in song

writing. This group brought crayons to life with the help of melody, lyric and rhyme! The

participants perform on broadcast as the grand finale!

#11: Color Move – Using computer skills students were given the opportunity to “make-a-

move” and get creative with basic video game programming. Students were challenged to

help the crayons find their way home.

“I went to Taste the Rainbow. It was fun

cause our hands got all

gooey and we got to

bake and eat our cook-

ie.” Jessie (Gr. 4)

“I went to the New Crayon session. I loved

mixing the paints and

making news col-

ors.” (Kadden, Gr. 2)

“I chose Rough Color. I think we should do

kid’s convention once a month because it

is fun for everyone.” (Trinity Gr. 5)
