“I tell the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven”Matthew 18,3 NIV

Dear Friends,

In the last few weeks we have been going through a message series called, How To Be Rich. We talked about living thankfully, living expectantly, and finally living generously. Check out this wonderful story and see if you can find thanksgiving, expectation, and generosity:

Last week I took my children to a restaurant. My six-year-old son asked if he could say grace. As we bowed our heads he said, “God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Mom gets us ice cream for dessert. And Liberty and justice for all! Amen!” Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby I heard a woman remark, “That’s what’s wrong with this country. Kids today don’t even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!” Hearing this, my son burst into tears and asked me, ”Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?” As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my son and said, “I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer. “Really?” my son asked. “Cross my heart,” the man replied. Then in a theatrical whisper he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), “Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes.” Naturally, I bought my kids ice cream at the end of the meal. My son stared at his for a moment and then did something I will remember the rest of my life. He picked up his sundae and without a word, walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, “Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already.”

What a great story. The generosity of that young man was demonstrated in his giving of the ice cream to the woman who had caused his tears. The effects of his generosity were felt and acknowledged by more than just one person.

The same can be said of your generosity as you faithfully give to the ministries of New Life! The generous heart serves as a reminder that goodness and mercy still exist! Generosity flows out of a heart filled with love and an understanding that the Author of All Good and Perfect Gifts has an endless abundance.

Making the stuffing for Thanksgiving dinner helps restore my heart to gratefulness. First I cut bread into cubes to dry out. Has it really been a year since I thanked God for the simple things of life? Dear God, thank you for my daily bread. Next I boil giblets for the tasty broth. When did I last express thanks for my body - even the oft-forgotten parts? Thank you, , God, for creating and sustaining me. Then i dice onions and celery, adding them to the mixture. That reminds me to thank God for abundant harvests. Finally I measure raisins, nuts, sage and salt into the stuffing, as scents fill the air. Lord, help me not grow weary of the interesting “spices” that fill my life. As the stuffing goes into the oven, warm air wafting into the kitchen, I remember to thank God for providing my home. Here relatives and friends gather, often an odd combination. yet when we bow our heads in thankfulness, we’re an unbeatable mix.

- Mary Ann Sundby

God of all nations, you are our Strength and Shield. We give you thanks today for the devotion and courage of all those who have offered military

service for this country ... We ask today that you would lift up by your Spirit those who are now at war; encourage and heal those in hospitals or mending their wounds at home; guard those in any need or trouble; hold safely in your hands all military families and bring the returning troops to joyful reunion and tranquil life t home. Give to us, your people, grateful hearts and a united will to honor these men and women and hold them always in our love and our prayers until your world is perfected in peace and all wars cease. Through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen

Remember back late this summer when we all dropped a rock into the cross mold up front at the Church? Well, the cement has been poured into it, the rocks situated on top, its cured, and the forms have been removed. Recently it was wrestled down and placed into the edge of the rocks that are situated around the sign out in front of the Church. Here is the crew that made sure that this project was completed.Take a look at the cross when you get a chance and remember that it was all about the congregation coming together in unity and laying down our burdens, so that we could be as one for Christ.

It was brought to our attention that on on Fox News channel and other television or cable outlets there will be a special TV program that you may be interested in. It will be ‘My Hope American with Billy Graham’. It was suggested that you could arrange a shoe box packing party and invite a few friends over to watch this show and pack a few boxes. We are so happy to announce that we only have a few of the we put together left. If we run out, you can always wrap a regular shoe box or pick up a plastic box and pack it. Whatever you plan to do; pack a box, donate funds for a box, or say a prayer,

we are ever so grateful. Collection date is Thanks,Circle of Friends

New Life United Methodist Church Administrative Board Sept. 10, 2013

The September meeting of the administrative board was called to order by Pastor John Scott. He shared a devotion and opened the meeting with prayer. Members present were: Barbara Ray, Meredith VanderHill, Bill Besemer, Kim, Molitor, Phill Seiter, MaryLou Botma, Linda Houck, Anita Epolito, Janet Johnson, Linda Andersen, and Pastor John. Janet moved with a second from Bill to accept the secretaryÕs report. Motion carried. Linda explained the treas. report. Phill moved that we accept the report as presented, second by Meredith. Motion carried. Phill reported that at the finance committee meeting it was decided to ask the congregation at the church conference for permission to use the money set aside for elevator and upstairs for other large financial necessities. This amount is about $10,000.00. Also they would like to open a line of credit with the bank in the amount of $20,000.00 to help get us caught up. A discussion was held on these two issues. Anita spoke on behalf of the fund raising committee about the upcoming dinner/show event to be held on Nov. 9th. The show will feature a Christian comedian. Pastor John announced that the PastorÕs appreciation dinner put on by the conference will be held at our church on Nov. 8th. Also the church conf. will be on Oct 22nd at 7:30.An endowment team has been put together to work on getting this program established in our church. A representative from the conf. will attend a meeting at our church to explain this endeavor. It was again brought up that we might want to have several of our meetings for different groups such as Ad. Board and trustees on the same night to eliminate having numerous nights attending meetings. Perhaps this would start next year. Committee reports were given as follows: Hospitality: Janet reported that they continue to do follow up on visitors.Worship: Meredith reported that we will need replacements for Linda Seiter as choir director and Chris Moore.Christian Ed.: We are very pleased to have childrenÕs church up and running and also a youth Bible study twice a month. The ÒgatheringÓstarts back up this week on Wednesdays. SPRC: Kim reported that the pastorÕs eval. is completed.Trustees: Barb reported for Andy that the security cameras for the church should be installed by the end of this month. The radon unit was installed today at the parsonage. The cost is $844.00 with 30 days to pay. The unit comes with a seven year warranty on the fan and a lifetime warranty on the system. The trustees will be evaluating the wish list presented at the Aug. ad. board meeting and putting the items in order by priority. Lay Leader: Bill reported that some people were offended by taking an impromptu offering (of $20.00) in church. The idea of this offering was to finish paying off the note on the parking lot. UMW: Mary Lou reported we will host the Heartland meeting on Sept. 19th and on Oct. 8th WomenÕs Night Out will be at St. Louis. PastorÕs report: no reportBeing no further business, the meeting was adjourned with prayer. Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Ray, Secretary
