      As a result of a bet between the governors of the two states in 1935, possession o

    Floyd of Rosedale is at stake Saturday. The trophy is currently in possession of the Gopher

    Minnesota holds a 42-36-2 advantage in the series with Floyd of Rosedale on the line

    Iowa has won 10 of the last 14 meengs, including the last six in Iowa City.

      Iowa is 2-0 in trophy games this season. The Hawkeyes defeated Iowa State, 31-17

      LAST MEETING: Iowa 14, Minnesota 51, Nov. 8, 2014 in Minneapolis

      Minnesota snapped a two-game losing streak to Iowa with a 51-14 win over the Hawkeye

    at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. With the victory, the Gophers took possession of Floy

    of Rosedale.

      Minnesota controlled the contest following

    Iowa’s touchdown on its opening possession. The

    Hawkeyes drove 76 yards in 12 plays, with running

    back Mark Weisman scoring a 1-yard touchdown.

    The Gophers scored touchdowns on five of

    their rst six possessions and took a 35-7 lead into

    halime. Minnesota added two more touchdowns

    and a eld goal in the second half. Iowa senior WR

    Andrew Stone caught a 24-yard pass from QB C.J

    Beathard on Iowa’s nal drive of the game. The

    score was the rst of Stone’s career.

      Minnesota outgained Iowa 429-205 in total

    yards, forcing three Hawkeye turnovers and blocking a punt, all in the rst half.

      QB Jake Rudock completed 10-of-19 passes for 89 yards and an intercepon, whi

    Beathard was 3-of-7 for 32 yards and a score. Minnesota QB Mitch Leidner completed 10

    rhymes with parents) is in his 17th season

    as head football coach at Iowa and the dean

    of Big Ten Conference football coaches. His

    latest contract extension runs through the

    in every season.

    In each of the last eight years, an eventual NFL rst-round dra

    pick started on the oensive line. Brandon Scher, selected by th

    Washington Redskins h overall in 2015, was Iowa’s le tack

    from 2012-14. Riley Rei, selected 23rd overall by the Detroit Lion

    in 2012, started at le tackle from 2010-11. Bryan Bulaga, selecte

      OVER 100,000 EXPECTED ON SATURDAY 

      The Minnesota at Iowa football game on Saturday night is sold out, with a crowd of

    70,585 expected. Earlier on Saturday, the Iowa wrestling program will host Oklahoma State

    in a dual meet in Kinnick Stadium to start the season. Over 32,000 ckets have been sold

    in advance of the 11 a.m. wrestling event.

      TWO-SPORT ATHLETES

      The fourth-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team hosts top-ranked Oklahoma State

    on Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT) in the “Grapple on the Gridiron.” More than 32,000 ckets

    have been sold to the never-before-seen-event. It marks the rst me in NCAA history

    two programs wrestled outdoors at a Division I football stadium.

      The Iowa football team has 17 players that wrestled in high school, including state

    champions Ausn Blythe (Iowa, 3x), Levi Paulsen (Iowa), Landan Paulsen (Iowa), Danie

    Gaey, (Iowa), Brady Rei (South Dakota, 2x), and Nathan Bazata (Nebraska).

     

    2 HAWKEYES EARN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

      DB Jordan Lomax and DE Drew O have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-

    District 6 rst team. The district honor is the second for Lomax and rst for O. Lomax

    is a senior from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Lomax has started all nine games at free

    safety. He is third on the team with 55 tackles, including 28 solo stops and 27 assists. Hehas one intercepon and ve pass break-ups. He earned academic All-Big Ten honors

    each of the past two seasons. The economics major was named a Capital One District 6

    Academic All-American a year ago and is a member of the UI’s Dean’s List. Lomax carries

    a 3.49 grade point average and has been a member of Iowa’s Leadership Group for the

    past three seasons.

      O is a senior from Trumbull, Nebraska. He will miss the remainder of the season ae

    suering an injury in Iowa’s win over Illinois. He played only the rst quarter in the win at

    Iowa State and played sparingly in a win over Pisburgh due to injury. In six games O

    recorded 11 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss and ve sacks. He was also ed for the

    Big Ten lead with three forced fumbles at the me of his injury. O aended Giltner High

    School before joining the Iowa program. He is a Health and Human Physiology major who

    carries a 3.33 grade point average. He earned Academic All-Big Ten recognion each of

    the past two seasons and is a candidate for that honor this year. He is in his second yearas a member of the team Leadership Group.

      In the last 17 seasons, under UI head coach Kirk Ferentz, 25 Iowa football student

    athletes have combined to earn academic All-District and All-America recognion on 46

    occasions.

      SHINING AT AWARDS SEASON 

      Iowa has been honored with ve Big Ten weekly awards this season. QB C.J. Beathard

    earned the oensive award following Iowa’s win at Iowa State, PK Marshall Koehn was the

    special teams winner following Iowa’s last-second victory over Pisburgh, DB Desmond

    King earned co-defensive honors for his play in Iowa’s win at Wisconsin, RB Jordan Canzer

    earned the oensive honor for his play in a win over Illinois, and RB Akrum Wadley earned

    the oensive honor following Iowa’s road win at Northwestern.

    Iowa’s three oensive award winners are the most for the program since 2002, when

    QB Brad Banks was recognized three mes and TE Dallas Clark was honored once. The last

    me three dierent oensive players earned weekly conference honors was 1997 (Tavian

    Banks, Tim Dwight, and Rob Thein).

      WE’LL GO FIRST 

      Iowa received the opening kicko in eight of nine games this season, and has outscored

    its opponents 50-16 in the rst quarter.

      In 17 seasons as Iowa’s head coach, Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes received the

    opening kicko in 170-of-209 games (103-67). Iowa has started the game on defense in

    39-of-209 games under Ferentz (21-18).

      Iowa leads the Big Ten and ranks 13th naonally with 13 intercepons. The Hawkeye

    have returned three intercepons for touchdowns (Josey Jewell, 34; Bo Bower, 88

    Desmond King, 88). The 88-yard intercepon returns by Bower and King e for the sevent

    longest intercepon returns in school history. Iowa ranks 11th in the country with thre

    defensive scores this season.

      Iowa has at least one intercepon return for a touchdown in each of the last eighseasons, and 13 of the last 15 seasons.

    MAKING HISTORY 

      For the rst me in school history, Iowa had a dierent running back rush for 200 yard

    in consecuve games (Akrum Wadley at Northwestern and Jordan Canzeri vs. Illinois

    Wadley recorded career highs in carries (26), rushing yards (204), and touchdowns (4

    against the Wildcats on Oct. 17. Canzeri amassed 256 yards rushing on a school-recor

    43 aempts against the Fighng Illini on Oct. 10.

      The feat is the rst me an FBS school had two dierent running backs eclipse 20

    yards rushing in a game since 1996.

    POWER OF 3

      Three dierent Hawkeyes have rushed for over 100 yards in a game this season: JordaCanzeri (4x), Akrum Wadley (twice), and LeShun Daniels once. The last me the Hawkeye

    had three dierent players rush for over 100 yards in a game in the same season wa

    2005: Albert Young (8x), and Shonn Greene and Damian Sims once each.

      The Hawkeyes also have three receivers with 100-yard receiving games: Ma VandeBer

      THE FOURTH QUARTER

      QB C.J. Beathard and the Hawkeyes’ rush defense have dominated the fourth quarte

    in 2015. Iowa’s rush defense, the No. 3 defense in the conference, has yielded 180 tota

    rushing yards in the fourth quarter this season (20 yards per game).

    Beathard is 26-of-38 passing for 352 yards and two touchdowns. He has also rushed 1

    mes for 39 yards and one touchdown in the fourth quarter this season. He has engineere

    game-winning drives in the fourth quarter two mes this season (Iowa State and Pi). H

    was 4-of-4 for 46 yards and a touchdown against Iowa State, and he rushed for 27 yard

      CB DESMOND KING (JR., 5-11, 190)

      Career Games Played/Starts: 35/34

      Junior CB Desmond King ed the single-season school record with his eighth intercepo

    in Week 9 at Indiana (Nile Kinnick 1939, Lou King 1981). He has at least one intercepon

    six games, including two games with mulple intercepons (Pi, Wisconsin). His sevent

    intercepon of the season against Maryland in Week 8 was returned 88 yards for his secon

    career touchdown.King was named Big Ten Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Jim Thorp

    naonal Player of the Week aer recording a pair of intercepons at Wisconsin. He is on

    of 16 seminalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the best defensive back i

    football.

      Five of his eight intercepons this season have resulted in Iowa scores (3 TDs, 2 FG)

      King in 3-2-1:

    • Eight intercepons lead the country. He is the rst Big Ten player with at least eigh

    intercepons in a single season since Wisconsin’s Jim Leonard in 2002 (11). The las

    Hawkeye to lead the Big Ten in intercepons was Tyler Sash in 2009 (6).

    • His next intercepon will be his ninth, seng the single-season school record (Lou King

    1981; Nile Kinnick 1939).

    • King is Iowa’ primary kick and punt returner. He averages 12.9 yards per punt return

    third in the league, and 23.6 yards on KO returns, sixth in the league. He totaled 18

    return yards against North Texas (71 punt and 109 kicko), becoming the fourth B

    Ten player in the last 20 seasons with 100-plus kicko return yards and 70-plus pun

    return yards in a single game.

      DE DREW OTT (SR., 6-4, 272)  Career Games Played/Started: 46/29

      Senior DE Drew O is out for the season aer suering a torn ACL against Illinois

    Week 6. He recorded one sack and two tackles-for-loss before leaving the game with a

    injury.

      O le the Iowa State game in Week 2 with an injury and saw limited snaps Week

    against Pi. O’s streak of 15 consecuve starts at defensive end ended Week 3 vs. Pi

    O recorded three tackles in the win at Wisconsin, including 2.5 tackles for loss and QB sack. He forced a fumble in the second quarter that led to an Iowa eld goal.

      O recorded two sacks for a loss of 20 yards and forced one fumble in Iowa’s seaso

    from Tyler Kluver on the Pi 47-yard line, and Koehn split the uprights, giving Iowa its rs

    walk-o eld goal since 1986 (Holiday Bowl).

    . OFFENSIVE-TACKLE-BY-COMMITTEE 

      The Hawkeyes have started four dierent oensive tackles this season. Three of them

    -- LT Boone Myers, RT Ike Boeger, LT Cole Croston -- entered the season with one combine

    career start (Boeger started as a second ght end against Wisconsin in 2014). OL Sea

    Welsh had 13 career starts at le guard before sliding out to right tackle at Northwestern

    Iowa’s oensive-tackle-by-commiee is being asked to replace a pair of NFL linema

    -- 2014 Outland Trophy winner LT Brandon Scher (Washington Redskins) and RT Andrew

    Donnal (St. Louis Rams).

    Myers joined the program as a walk-on and was put on scholarship prior to the 201

    season. He saw acon in four games last season. Boeger joined the team as a gh

    end but was moved to oensive line in 2013. He saw acon in seven games as a redshir

    freshman in 2014. Croston joined the team as a walk-on in 2012, and had played primaril

    on special teams prior to this season. He joined the program for the 2015 spring pracc

    season. Welsh was a high school All-American in Springboro, Ohio, and was named rs

    team freshman All-Big Ten by BTN in 2014.

      IOWA PROGRAM NOTES

    • The Hawkeyes have earned bowl eligibility in 14 of the last 15

    seasons.

    • Iowa earned Big Ten Conference championships in 2002 and

    2004 and placed second in 2009. Iowa (8-0, 2002) is one of four

    Big Ten teams to post a perfect mark in conference play since

    1998 (BCS era).• Iowa has ranked in the top 10 in the nal Associated Press and

    CNN/USA Today coaches polls four mes since 2002, including

    a ranking of seventh in both polls at the conclusion of the 2009

    season. Iowa ranked eighth in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and the

    Hawkeyes were also 20th in 2008.

    • Since 1936 when the rst AP poll was released, Iowa has ap-

    peared the poll 303 mes, the h highest total in the Big Ten

    (Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and MSU). Iowa has been the

    top-ranked team in the country 11 mes.

    • Iowa established a school record with 11 wins in 2002 (11-2)

    and matched that record in 2009. In 2009, Iowa started 9-0 and

    won 10 regular season games for just the fourth me in school

    history.

    • Iowa won 10 or more games in three consecuve years (2002-

    • Kirk Ferentz has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year three

    mes (2002, 2004 & 2009) and he was named Naonal Coach

    of the Year in 2002. Ferentz joins Michigan’s Bo Schembechler

    (four), Iowa’s Hayden Fry (three) and Penn State’s Joe Paterno

    (three) as the only coaches to be honored in more than two

    seasons.

    • Iowa has had naonal award winners in: Robert Gallery (2003

    • Iowa’s football record in the 2000 decade was 80-45 (.640), a

    record that ranks as the best decade in Iowa football history,

    based on total wins. Iowa posted a record of 77-40-4 (.652)

    during the 1980’s and the Hawkeyes were 62-53-2 (.538) in the

    1990’s.

    • Part of the Hawkeyes’ long term success is due to the stability

    in the program. Iowa has had just two head coaches since 1979.

    Hayden Fry took over prior to the 1979 season and coachedthrough the 1998 season, posng a record of 143-89-6. Current

    coach Kirk Ferentz replaced Fry, leading the program for the

    17th season. Ferentz also served as Iowa’s oensive line coach

    from 1981-89 under Fry.

      HAWKEYE HISTORY

    Iowa has played 1,202 games since beginning football in 1889.

    Iowa’s overall record is 622-541-39 (.533). That includes a 391-

    213-16 (.641) record in home games, a 231-328-23 (.413) record

    in games away from Iowa City, a 311-366-25 (.457) mark in Big Ten

    games and a 274-177-15 (.600) record in Kinnick Stadium.
