First Friday Experience continued

Northville Art House ~ Be a pART of it! A great

teacher is a gift whose true value we realize only in retrospect. Inspiration, knowledge, skill, insight, vision – all these and more come with the right person lead-ing students. Russell Keeter was such a person.

For 27 years, Mr. Keeter

inspired young artists at

Detroit's Center for Crea-

tive Studies. He was the

kind of teacher his stu-

dents recall vividly 20

years after his untimely

death in 1991. The kind

of teacher no one ever forgets. In his own right, Mr.

Keeter was a talented artist who specialized in the

human figure. As an instructor, he strove to open stu-

dents' vision to their paths as artists.

Two decades after his death, the Northville Art House

is honored to present an exhibition that delves into the

unique relationship between a gifted teacher and artist

and his students. Including works from Mr. Keeter him-

self and a number of his students, the show is in-

tended as both a tribute to Mr. Keeter's legacy and a

broader reflection on the invaluable, yet often under-

appreciated lifetime impact of great teachers. The

show is curated by

Jeff Cancelosi.

The show will open in the Art House's upper gallery with a reception and artists' talk on Friday, Sep-tember 2, from 6-9 p.m. The show will continue through September 24 dur-

ing the Art House Gallery hours (Wednesdays-Saturdays, 1-5 p.m.). Ad-mission to Art House ex-hibits is always free and open to the public.

For more information, please visit the Northville Art House website.

Starring The Gallery ~ Autumn in Michigan is great

time for many things - temperatures cool down, leaves turn brilliant hues of reds, yellows, and oranges, and it's just a great time to enjoy the outdoors. Northville's First Friday Experience is just one reason to get out-side. Bring your friends or meet new ones along the way while enjoying our featured artists at Starring "The Gallery". Each month you can look forward to meeting a different artist and possibly discovering a new art form while gathering ideas to refresh your home for the coming sea-son.

Join us in September as Joy Huyck exhibits her collection of paint-ings which include landscapes and the changing seasons.

Artist Statement: I have concentrated on represent-ing Michigan's seasons, portraying the extreme icy cold winters and the serene, hopeful spring. Some of my work is more representational than others. Most often I portray the feeling of a season, rather than the appearance. However, in all of my work, I continue to use my techniques of layering and building of texture. Each layer must have 24 hours to set and dry. There-fore, each piece takes weeks before completion. In addition to her paintings, Joy’s designs include indi-vidually handmade note cards and bookmarks/tags. To read more about Joy Huyck, please visit our website. We look forward to seeing you on September 2nd at the next First Friday Experience. Starring “The Gallery” - providing a unique shopping experience

yet ridiculous comedy.

plot twists –and who doesn’t love a surprise ending?
