There is no denying that ours is a cul-ture increasingly dependent on technol-ogy in all facets of daily life. We rely on e-mail and messaging to keep in touch and turn to our tablets or smart phones to keep track of current events and enter-tainment.
Meetings and even educational pro-grams are offered via video chats and groups. Many people would admit that they’d feel lost without their gadget of choice at the ready. Individuals who rely on technology may be in search of other ways to employ their digital prowess, and researching restaurants and making res-ervations online might be right up their alley.
With their phones boasting apps that can zero in on top-rated restaurants and other nearby establishments, individu-als very often turn to their trusty tablets or smartphones to make decisions on where to eat. According to AISMedia, 89 percent of consumers say they have re-searched a restaurant online before din-ing there.
Those most likely to use the Internet to check out menus and other information about food establishments, are people ages 25 to 45. And of those consumers who have researched a restaurant on-
line, 33 percent view other consumer’s reviews online prior to dining.
Researching restaurants isn’t all peo-ple are doing online. They’re also mak-ing reservations. Services like OpenTable (www.opentablecom) allow diners to browse through more than 25,000 res-taurants partnered with the service and make reservations -- even down to table selection. Simply search for your favorite restaurant or browse by specific region.
Then select your time and fill out the required information. Many restaurant-sare using this service to help manage their restaurant reservation process.
Although services like this may help remove confusion over reservations, there also are steps diners can take to en-sure their night out on the town goes off without a hitch.
• When calling for a reservation, do so in the early afternoon when the hostess station is not overwhelmed with custom-ers. If you have been a good customer in the past, it doesn’t hurt to mention that.
• Tip the maitre d’ or hostess on the way out from dining if you plan to return again.
• If there is a wait, stand by the hostess station to reduce your risk of being lost in the crowd.

Authentic Jamaican Cuisine Available In Canton
Some parents cringe at the mere mention of dining out with their chil-dren, envisioning 90 minutes of crying, taunting and tantrums. While some cultures place great significance on dining out as a family, North Americans seem less inclined to do so-- unless it is at a family-friendly (not food-friendly) chain restaurant or fastfood establish-ment. However, dining out with young children doesn’t have to be a debacle. Employ a few of the following tips, and your next night on the town with the youngsters in tow might just prove to be a nice family experience.
* Get munchies. A hungry child is of-ten a cranky child. Ask if bread, crackers or chips can be placed on the table early on so that the kids have something to snack on and distract them from hun-ger pangs.
* Request a table near the bathroom. While looking at the restroom doors may not make for the most inviting ambiance, it does reduce the hassle of snaking through tables and rows with a child who needs to use the restroom.
* Order for the table. Giving kids a choice may waste time and lead to ar-guments. Order a few items that every-one can share, increasing the likelihood that your child will find something he or she wants to eat.
* Stick with recognizable foods. Now is not the time to ask junior to delve into seafood salad or osso bucco. Save taste-testing for another time when there’s nobody else around to hear your child’s protestations.
* Make dessert a reward not an ex-pectation. If the children behave to your liking, dessert can be a reward.

OGDENSBURG - Having a good restau-rant pre-arranged can make all the differ-ence and in Ogdensburg, New York, Little Italy Pizzeria is the choice destination.
Conveniently located just off Highway 37 at 900 State Street, Little Italy Pizzeria
and Restaurant offers visiting Canadians authentic homemade Italian fare that’s not just limited to pizza, though pizza is sure to please.
The secret to their success, accord-ing to Sicilian born and Montreal-raised
owner Joseph Cammisano, is a combina-tion of tasty food, great prices and a wel-coming environment.
“The atmosphere is just phenomenal,” said Mr. Cammisano. “We make a big party out of this.”
For Mr. Cammisano, family also plays a big part in his restaurant business. His father owned a restaurant when he was growing up, and his brother-in-law has four other Little Italy Pizzerias in the Adirondack region of New York.
Perhaps because of his strong back-ground in the restaurant business, Mr. Cammisano knows that the whole atmo-sphere and service are important, great food is what keeps people coming back.
For that reason, no detail is over-looked when it comes to their food.
“The food is fresh and homemade,” he said. “The dough for the pizza, our pasta and bread rolls, our Alfredo is also very well known.”
The restaurant has also been re-vamped inside and features Roman col-umns throughout the dining room.
So, for a brief stop to pick up some-thing quick to eat, or to take a breather on your travels, stop by Little Italy Piz-zeria for great food, hospitality and ser-vice.
“It’s like going to Italy without having to take a seven hour flight,” Mr. Cam-misano stated.
For reservations or takeout orders, call Little Italy Pizzeria at 315-713-0000.

MADRID - The Ole Smokehouse opened in July of 2008 and has been growing ever since. Stephen and Robin Barkley pur-chased the former Terry’s Tavern in Sep-tember of 2006. “After many renovations and new construction we became the Old Smokehouse, serving the North Country great BBQ with a fun atmosphere”
Stephen and Robin understand and ap-preciate the importance of family. The Ole Smokehouse is a family run restaurant. Two of their three children not only have been employed there since the beginning, but have been important pieces in making every dining experience special.
The Ole Smokehouse has been in-volved with the community from day one and continues to expand on fundraising events.
“To name just a few – The Smoke-house Snugglies, is where we collect children’s pajamas and donate them to the Neighborhood Center at Christ-mas. Each summer we enjoy our an-nual BBQ Bash. Recently we hosted our 1st annual Hogs for Humanity to benefit lo-cal food pan-tries, as well as a guest bar-tending event, with proceeds b e n e f i t i n g the American Heart Associa-tion. We also celebrated our 3 r d a n n u a l

OGDENSBURG - The Place is the oldest pub in the City of Ogdensburg. The first-proprietor of record, George E. Wall, can be traced to the early 1920’s. During that period, The George Wall Cigar Store & Sa-loon played host to famous and frequent visitors, including the champion boxer Jack Dempsey, the driver and trainer of cham-pion filly Calumet Evelyn Vic Fleming, and Joe Louis’s manager and promoter, Mike Jacobs. In the tradition of the Roaring Twenties the saloon featured flapper girls, bootleg alcohol, and game cock fighting.
In 1953 Jimmy Mills, an Ogdensburg native who had worked for Wall since the-post-prohibition era in 1934 took owner-ship of the saloon. Jimmy, who was be-loved by customers throughout the North Country, introduced the famous “Friday Sturgeon Fish Fry.” Jimmy also contrib-uted the “Original Tom and Jerry Batter Mix” that remains the recipe for this sig-nature North Country holiday drink.
Dignitaries during Jimmy Mills’s own-ership included Presidential candidate John F. Kennedy who enjoyed lunch in
1959 and Ernest McSorley, a native of Og-densburg and Captain of the ill fated great lake ship Edmund Fitzgerald.
The current proprietors, Bill and Mau-reen, have maintained the rich history and tradition of this historic “Place.
The Placed played host to the Stan-ley Cup in 2008. Ogdensburg’s own Jimmy Howard of the Detroit Red wings, family friend of the McNally’s, had a memorable night with close friends and family.
Customers can still enjoy the original
Tom & Jerry recipe and the best “Irish Fish Fry” in the North Country. The menu has been updated to include contemporary dishes such as panini sandwiches, freshly made soups and daily specials. The Place serves lunch Monday-Friday and dinner Monday-Saturday. Nightly specials are served Monday-Friday. Catering is avail-able on and off premises and delivery is available Monday-Friday until 9 p.m. Ca-nadian money is taken at par.

OGDENSBURG – Sometimes you just want to sit down with family or friends, enjoy some great food in a fun atmo-sphere and have a pleasant evening out. Every night, Buster’s Sports Bar in Og-densburg is packed with people doing just that. It’s not only the cool décor with unique sports memorabilia hanging on every wall or the excellent service from a team of experienced waiters and wait-resses that keeps people coming back to Buster’s although that’s certainly all a plus. Rather, it’s the food.
A 20-foot salad bar offers more than 40 different fresh vegetables and fruit along with dinner rolls and delicious home-made soups and desserts. You can choose from 4 different salads-including maca-roni, potato, and pasta. Three different lettuces are used in the tossed salad-ro-maine, spring mac, and iceberg. Home-made desserts by Rose are fa-vorite items on the menu. Delectable pie selections include-coconut cream, ba-nana cream, chocolate, and peanut but-ter plus carrot cake and cherry cheese-cake are additional favorites.
“We have a varied and extensive menu,” states owner Terry Vernsey. “We
have a little bit of everything-something for every taste.” This includes steaks, sea-food, ½ lb. burgers, appetizers, sandwich-es, and much more.

also become known for its fresh St. Law-rence perch.
Buster’s can also lay claim to the cold-est beer in town due to their installation of an ice bath which keeps the suds fresh and cold. Twelve different types of draft beer are on tap, with the price of a 16 oz. glass starting at $2.25. A 27 oz. Coors Lt is available for $3.75. Other drafts include Stella, Sam Adams Seasonal, Bud, Bud Lt, Labatt’s and Yuengling.
