Restaurant Price Gouging Reported By OPA

Restaurant price gouging av­ eraging "48 percent In the South­ ern California area was report­ ed by. Edwin Sadler, Southern California District OPA Price Board Executive.

OPA investigators checked I,- 836 restaurants abou t 12 per­ cent of the total number of restaurants in the Southland and found numerous violations during the investigation, which was launched because of many complaints. that prices were go­ ing up throughout the whole area, Sadler stated.

Some 609 restaurants have upped prices above the legal price on old items, while 376 were found charging excessive prices on new items, the survey showed.

Three hundred and twenty restaurant operators were .found in violation of price posting reg­ ulations, while 285 others were found to have discontinued most of their low and medium priced meals In favor of meals in the high price brackets.
