NAPLAN achievements

We were thrilled to receive advice from the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority in recent

days that our school has been identified as having demonstrated substantially above average gain in NAPLAN.

This gain is measured based on overall gain compared to previous years; gain compared to schools with similar

students; and gain compared to other students at the same average NAPLAN starting score. It is an excellent

achievement for our school to be acknowledged in this way and is further evidence that the programs and focus

of our school over the last few years are yielding improved results for our

students.

Canteen Award

Last week at our K-6 Assembly, a representative from NSW Health presented

Canteen Manager Lisa Pang with a Healthy School Canteen award. Lisa has

worked extremely hard to achieve this status, along with former Canteen

Committee Coordinator Ruth Archer and current Canteen Committee

Coordinator Bonita Chan. We thank them for all of their efforts and are very

pleased this work has been officially recognised.

Parent / Teacher Interviews

Parent / teacher interviews are being held this week. We have had 92% of

parents / carers book an interview and it is wonderful to have so many parents engaged to work with our teachers

in supporting their children’s learning.

Opportunity Class Applications

This week all Year 4 students received an information letter about the Opportunity Class application process.

Please remember that all applications must be completed by Friday 17 May and the High Performing Students

Unit will not accept late applications. The online application can be accessed at

https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 from 30

April.

ANZAC Service

Tomorrow we will be holding an ANZAC service at school, commencing at 12.30 p.m. Thank you to Ms Patel who

is coordinating this event. Parents and carers are welcome to attend. Please note there is no normal school

assembly this week.

Cross Country

We are looking forward to our annual Cross Country, to be held on Friday. Thank you to Ms Besson, Ms Duncan

and Mr Rosewarn for all of the work they have put into organising this event.

Term 1 Invoices

Term 1 invoices are now overdue and we would appreciate your support in paying these by Friday. If you are not

able to pay by this date, please contact me directly to arrange a payment support plan. Please note we are not

able to fund excursions and incursions on an ongoing basis for students where parents have not made

arrangements for a payment plan.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

During this fortnight all classes are revising expectations for the canteen and how our three values relate to this

setting. The Week 10 recipients of our PBL draw were Isabella H and Zoe P.

Term 2 Dates

Term 1 concludes this Friday 12 April. Please note that Monday 29 April is the Term 2 Staff Development Day,

where only staff members attend. Students return on Tuesday 30 April for Term 2. Please note when students

return they may wear winter school uniform if the weather is appropriate to do so. After this initial period at the

start of the term, all students will need to wear full winter school uniform each day from Monday 13 May onwards.

I hope all families have a great break and a lovely Easter. Thank you for your support in what has been a very

productive Term 1!

Amber Gorrell

Woolworth’s Earn and Learn

The school is seeking a few Parent Volunteers who are willing to and who are interested in organising the 2019

Woolworths Earn & Learn promotion. The promotion commences on 1 May 2019 and concludes on 25 June

2019.

What is required:

Distribution of sticker sheets (school will supply photocopy sheets – volunteers to hand out to class

teachers).

Volunteers to work together and visit the local Woolworths stores to make sure that Normanhurst PS

have a box set up with our name on it.

Local Woolworths boxes to be emptied once or twice a week as boxes can get quite full quickly.

Stickers from the local Woolworths boxes need to be stuck on sticker sheets.

School collection boxes will need to be monitored and emptied once a week.

Sticker sheets need to be a complete full sheet set, so you will need to monitor the sheets returned from

students.

Placing an advert in our school newsletter each week to encourage students to complete and return

sticker sheets.

At the end of the promotion all completed sticker sheets need to be returned to the office so the office

staff can enter/put forward points.

This promotion will assist our school with accessing a new range of new equipment across every possible

category including ICT, science, sports, mathematics, arts and crafts and more.

Last year our school gathered over 34,000 points. This allowed us to purchase various educational items for

our students and school.

If you are interested please email the school at [email protected]

We are only seeking a handful of volunteers so if you are interested please email the school as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Ms Bell

School Administrative Manager

What a fabulous end to Term 1 with our Bush Dance on Saturday in the sunshine. We had more than 75 families

attend and the kids had fun apple bobbing, dancing, eating fairy floss and having their faces painted. Thank you

to everyone who assisted run our stalls on the day or came along to join the fun, we raised a total of $4000 for

our school.

Looking forward to next term, we have the Working Bee 4 May, same format as last time, come and lend a hand

to improve our grounds for as little as 30min. Depending on the progress of the infant playground, our focus will

be to improve that area of the school if all goes to plan.

Our Mother’s Day Stall will be held on Friday 10 May. Lots of lovely gifts will be available for our children to

purchase on the day. Details in Week 1.

Our next P&C meeting will be held on Monday 13 May at 7.30 p.m.. Please put forward any agenda items that

you would like to discuss or have voted upon during the holidays or in the first week of Term 2, so that I can

publish an agenda in Week 2. We will plan to allocate some of the money we have raised this year to “the wish

list items” so please come along and be part of the discussion. A reminder that our suggestions box is in the

office, if you have ideas, please put them forward.

The night of all nights is on its way with Trivia Night to be held on Saturday 15 June. Prepare your babysitter,

without the support from our families.

A big thank you also to; Leah Manwaring for the poster design, Lauren Erickson for her photo boards and

organising the hay, Andrew Veldon for organising the BBQ and refreshments, Lisa Manton for assisting with

entertainment and organising her lovely daughter Anna to do Henna.

Canteen News

So exciting that we finally officially received our HEALTHY CANTEEN AWARD CERTIFICATE in last Thursday’s

assembly! A very big congratulations to Lisa and Ruth for all their hard work in attaining this recognition.

Our School Cross Country Carnival is on THIS week on Friday 12 April. Lunch orders are still available this day,

although burgers and toasted sandwiches will not be able to be kept hot and edible if students are delayed and

return to school late. It is also the last day of Term 1 so some of your children’s favourite food items may not be

available to order (if it is not visible it means “unavailable” to order at the present time.)

The Canteen will not be open for recess but will be open during the normal lunchtime for counter sales once

students have returned to School from Loreto.

{Parents FYI} Please note if your child is absent from school but you had ordered a lunch for them, please notify

Lisa via email [email protected] or call the school office and ask them to put the call through to the

Canteen. If this is done BEFORE 10am we can hold off preparing the meal and cancel the order (so you can

avoid being charged.)

your help and dedication. I hope everyone enjoys the school holiday term break and if you

It is delightful to see your child’s smile over the counter at recess or lunch service…! Please log into
