Christ has no body but yours.

No hands, no feet on earth but yours.

Yours are the eyes through which He sees.

Yours are the hands through which He does good.

St Therese of Avila (1515-1582)

This is part of St Therese’s prayer. It states the message simply, that we are asked to carry on the work of Christ in our

daily life. A daunting challenge but with support from others and their own faith to sustain them it is very possible for each

student to listen to what their heart tells them and follow their dreams. Another part of the reflection included the words:

They show our true colours.

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Holiday Opportunities for year 9 and 10

students

The ConcoPhillips Science experience is on offer for students in year 9 and 10 who would like to spend some of their holiday time at a university engaging in hands on activities in the tertiary labs. The cost is $120 for a 3 day experience, $160 for a 4 day experience and accommodation has to be factored as well.

There is no selection process so students can enroll online at www.scienceexperience.com.au

Year 9 and 10 teachers will speak more of this during class with a flyer of the universities participating, the dates available and the programs on offer.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway. Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway. In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway. ~Mother Teresa

MATHS LEAPS in Year 9 StudentS studying the 5.3 course in Year 9 enjoyed an extension activity using bases to solve complex exponential equations. The students made some quantum leaps in their brains as they used their knowledge of base numbers. They enjoyed a jigsaw activity where they solved 35 equations and used the answers to make a jigsaw from an Escher print or geometrical art piece. Once their jigsaw was completed, it was up to another member of the class to put the beautiful piece of art back together again. Besides offering some mathematical challenges with the equations that they attempted, it also offered some spatial challenges and some symmetry challenges. The students rose to these and it was amazing how they handled the very difficult mathematics. A credit to all of them!

SCIENCE SPARKS

“ We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” Aristotle

There Science Department had many motivated students who have already started the habit of excellence by attempting the Big Science Competition organized by Australian Science Innovations. 48 000 students sat the competition and our students showed their expertise and initiative.

Congratulations to the following students:

Daniella Gullotta and Imreet Singh achieved a HIGH DISTINCTION

Jaeden Andreazza and Jessica Kelly achieved DISTINCTION

Cooper Collins, Eloise Star, Will Chant, Talissa Cerrato, Branavan Thevashangar, Sophie

Baker, Shristi Chatterji, Guiseppe Ferraro and Nayani Navaneethan all received a CREDIT

Mitchell Wood, Angus Kennedy, Christian Webb, Nathan Toaldo, Riya Mathew, Binit Shrestha, Joyal Abraham, Claire Murray, Elizabeth Trimboli, Ivan Bibikov, Amanda Rizzeri, Charlotte McNair, Abhishek Sandhu and Kavi Thevashanagar who received a

CERTIFICATE of PARTICIPATION.

The 2017 Big Science Competition will be run next year in May, so we encourage the habit of

learning every day, to develop experts at our school.

Students explored many science concepts this week in the laboratories, from making soap in Year 12 Chemistry, to precipitation reactions and exploring the motion in Year 10. This is relevant to our daily lives, particularly in this agricultural area as farmers need to understand the precipitation of salts used in fertilizer drip systems, and of course, we all experience motion each day in our cars and other modes of transport. We certainly need experts on our roads to ensure the safety of everyone travelling.

As the school term comes to an end, we encourage the year 12 students to use their time wisely in preparation for their HSC exams and we pray that they are rewarded for their hard work and expert knowledge.

On behalf of the Science teachers, I wish everyone a safe and restful holiday.

Esther Dumbleton Acting Science Co-ordinator

PASTORAL CARE NEW

This week the COMMUNITY ACTION TEAM’S charity drive; on behalf of NEEDY PAWS

culminated with a MEGA CUPCAKE STALL.

NEEDY PAWS is a group of volunteers who wish to prevent the unnecessary deaths of animals in

pounds; they rely on the kindness and generosity of pet lovers to help save lives. More information

regarding this service can be found on their facebook site.

The C.A.T has been overwhelmed with the generosity

displayed by students, staff and the wider MCC

community and would like to thank everyone for their

donations and support.

The team has received an enormous amount of tinned and

dry food to be donated directly to the service as well as

$700 + which will be used at the service’s discretion;

particularly for veterinary fees to maintain the wellbeing

of our furry friends.

Special thanks to Betty Neville from Betty Boo who donated our mascot’s outfit to help us

acknowledge and celebrate the work that NEEDY PAWS and their carers do. We are extremely

fortunate to live in a community which is willing to become

involved and demonstrate kindness to all creatures great and

small.

Kindest Regards Sue Hone (Pastoral Care)
