Dear Parents, Students and Friends

During the week, staff spent time with Br Graham Neist and Frank Malloy from Marist Schools Australia.

We have been considering our view of ―Mission‖-living our faith through the work we do as leaders in a Catholic school and how it can be enhanced and renewed through understanding the mission of Jesus and what God wants of us. Heavy stuff indeed but simply expressed by two gifted men. Live life to the full, make it the best life possible and face every day with belief that I am the ―Body of Christ‖-doing God’s Work, when I give my best.

Our presenters also used examples from the actions and writings of Pope Francis to highlight the important work we do in making the Gospel-The Good News, present and real in the daily life of the college.

A big challenge but worth the fight!!!

Peace and Best Wishes

Learning and Teaching News

Science Fun for Year 7 students

In Science the Year 7 students have been

studying Cells, the building blocks of living

things. Students became very curious about

the inside story of living things when they

found themselves belonging to it.

In class, we decided to further investigate the

inner structure of a cell. The students set

themselves in groups, researched the topic,

laid out a plan to work as a team to construct a

model of a cell. They challenged themselves

by setting specific criteria for making the

model. From research, to organising material,

to constructing the model, they have shown

tremendous effort in team work and dedication

to the task. The students were engaged with

enthusiasm and created some fascinating

models of a cell.

Well done Year 7!!!

What is it like to have no money, you

can‘t contact home and the only place to

sleep is on the floor? That was only part

of the experience for the 5 students from

year 12 and 5 from year 11 who attended

this year‘s Street Retreat. Stepping out

of your comfort zone and putting others

first are the key components which make

up a street retreat. Our students worked

with a group of refugees, in the spirit of

Mary Mackillop, ‗never seeing a need

without doing something about it‘.

We are extremely proud of the way our

students grew through the experience

and truly stepped up to the challenge.

Last week the Marian Catholic College Committee

Service Group, volunteered their time to cook food for

our local Carevan. There are people in our city,

children, adolescents and adults who don't have a safe

place to live or don't come home to regular meals on the

table. The Griffith Carevan is working alongside other

community minded organisations to deal with these

issues.

They provide the homeless and others who are in need,

with a nutritious, filling and healthy meal now available

one night per week.

Our Community Service group attended school at 8:00am last Wednesday morning to prepare

the food & then came together again in their lunch time to cook the food. They did this under the

supervision of Mrs Trembath & Ms Davidson.

We thank them all for their efforts!

On Monday, we celebrated our College’s Feast Day which correlates with Our Lady Help

of Christians Feast day. Over the course of the day, we sold pizza, made lamingtons and had

a Mary focused mass. The money raised will go towards our Project Sam funds.

The Year 12 student leadership team and other

proactive Year 12 students organised the pizza and

lamington stalls. They generously gave up

their lunch and recess to sell the food. The

lamingtons were made on before students’ eyes

in a very efficient procession line! A special

thank you to Mrs Tracey Davidson for

orgainsing the ingredients and providing the

students with some handy tips on how to make

yummy lamingtons.

Year12students also assisted with the mass. We paid special homage to Mary through our readings, the Gospel

Procession, prayers of the Faithful and songs. Fr Neru lead us in our prayer celebration. We are very grateful for the

beautiful mass her gave us. A big thank you to the choir, musicians, Mr Segrave and Mrs Aventi for their

assistance in this area. As usual, the student community was extremely reverent and respectful during the mass.

On Tuesday 20th May, 2 girls teams and 1 boys team attended the NSW Netball Schools Cup participating against schools from Deniliquin, Lake Cargelligo, West Wyalong, Cootamundra, Wade High and Griffith High. All teams were very successful and displayed great sportsmanship and commitment. Team A were placed 2nd out of 6 schools winning 4 out of their 5 games. Mikaela Quinn and Jessie Lewis showed some accurate shooting skills in helping the team to win whilst Eloise Star, Sophia Serafin and Laura Royal worked very hard in defence to keep the other teams goals to a minimum. Suzanne Rinaldo worked hard all day with the help of the other centre court players consisting of Ruby Gair, Ruby Zandona and Abbey Anderson. Team B were also placed 2nd on the ladder winning 3 out of their 4 games. Jamie Lewis, Tanna Collins and Tessa Zanesco worked well in the shooting circle scoring as many goals as possible. Stella Adams-Jones, Georgia Bourke and Caitlin Chant worked hard and gave 100% in defence, whilst Lara Salvestro, Isabelle Eldridge and Kate Vardanega gave it their best in centre court by always being in the action. The boys first opportunity at a Netball Carnival proved successful with them coming 2nd and being able to progress onto the next level in Wagga by winning 2 out of their 4 games. James Olivero, Abishek Sandhu, Lawrence Salvestro and Rakesh Deep worked tirelessly in centre court with great defence work from Patrick Wordsworth, Austin McWilliam and Matthew Parisottto. Cesare Piccinin and Connor Bock proved accuracy is important in helping their team win. Well done to everyone, MCC is proud of you. I would like to also thank Sarah Connelly, Megan Beecher, Samantha Graham and Grace Ryan for umpiring and Mrs Centofanti for your support on the day. Renae Savage MCC Netball Coach
