NME MAGAZINE

Page 2: Nme magazine

Masthead:The masthead is at the top left of the page so the eyes are automatically attracted to it, the colour red is also attractive to the eyes as it is bright and bold in comparison to the rest of the page.

FRONT COVER

Main Image:The main image is a close up allowing the audience to see the facial expression of the person. Amy is looking directly into the camera making the reader think she is looking at them. Her hair, makeup and costume are all black and so they compliment each other well. The image shows the audience that the magazine is indie because the facial expression is mysterious and the hair and makeup are alternative like indie music. Amy’s name is larger than the actual title showing the reader that she is the theme in the magazine. Her name is in red which fits the colour scheme because it compliments the black and also fits the indie theme because the colours are basic.

Sell lines:The sell lines follow the theme of black, red and white which compliment the image and the theme of indie because the colours are all simple and basic. the positioning of the sell lines is to the right of the image and they don’t cover up the actual face making it look more appealing. All of the sell lines are specifically coloured so that they’re easy to read and more aesthetically pleasing for the audience. There is a three colour, colour scheme which keeps it simple and all linking well, there aren’t any random colours that would make the look unprofessional or unattractive. The colours used link to the theme of indie because the black and white are typical colours and the red is bold and brings out the theme of the magazine.

The line underneath Amy’s name is written in large bold text so the audience are drawn in and persuaded to by the magazine, it gives away a little bit of information about what’s inside and therefore the reader feels obliged to buy it to find out more.

CONTENTS PAGE

Page Title:The title fits the theme of the page using the three colour, colour scheme which is simple, but effective. The title of the magazine in the title of the page is in a different colour drawing the readers attention to the name of the magazine and also the title because there are more than one colour featuring. The black background makes the colours in the title stand out more. This is more affective as it makes the reader want to see what the magazine is containing, which will lead to them buying and reading it.

Main Image:The main image is portrait and a long shot allowing the reader to see everything happening in the picture. The picture isn’t posed for as it has been taken whilst they were performing.

Subscription:The subscription is in a different colour compared to the colour scheme. This is because it is designed to get the readers attention to make them subscribe. The important things are in yellow to highlight the good features of the subscription.

Contents:The contents column is done using the three colour, colour scheme to fit the magazine aesthetics. The subtitles are in bold to grab the audiences attention and to ensure that they don’t miss anything. The page numbers have been done in red, which is bright compared to the black and white, to make the readers eyes get drawn to them which will make them read the magazine. The subtitles follow the way the page title has been done which shows a clear theme.

Extras:The page extras are mainly done in red so that they’re not missed by the reader. They are not a main feature of the page and often get missed, but in a bright, bold colour they get recognised and the readers eyes are drawn to them.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREADPage Title:The page title curves around the page which makes it a main feature. Mark’s actual name is bigger than the rest of the title telling the audience that he is going to be the feature. The title is black and bold which attracts the readers attention also, there is no colour which makes it look very clean and sharp which is aesthetically pleasing for the audience.

Cap Head:The use of a cap head makes the reader want to read the text because it is intriguing with a larger first letter. The cap head is done in the same font as the title which makes the page fit together well. The eyes get drawn to the cap head because it is a bigger letter which makes the reader automatically start reading the text.

Main Image:The main image takes up a whole page which makes the audience want to read what it’s about as it entices them in. The main colour of the page is black and white, however there is red on his sock which adds colour to the page and draws the readers eyes to it. The image is a long shot allowing you to see his whole body and what actions he’s doing. Here he is smashing an instrument which makes the reader want to read the article to see what it’s about.

Layout:The page layout is very clean and simple, however it is very effective. The image on one page works well with the text on the page because the eyes see the image and automatically want to read the text, furthermore the image isn’t in the way of the text so it is easy to read and it looks professional. The layout is aesthetically pleasing and the white spaces make the page look clean and smart rather than empty because the black and white colour scheme

allows the blank space to be there as it fits in with the page. The text takes up half a page which makes it look like a small amount so it is not over facing for the reader meaning they are more likely to read it.
