Problem Problem statement:People

• 2 Target Groups:

• - Children: 5-12 (beginner)

• - General: 13 & above (advanced)

• There is a lack of an effective interactive medium to conduct learning

regarding Singapore’s heritage.

• By incorporating hands-on playing into the learning experience, we

attempt to foster appreciation of the sites.

Page 4: Nm2216 Presentation Group Dw4 04

Problem Problem statement:Activities• Through playing, the users will be more interested in the sites itself,

provoking them to do more research and going to the place,

understanding and finding out more of our heritage.

• It is believed that many children and adults learn best when they use

their hands to perform a task, and for children, play-based activities

are essential for acquiring knowledge.

• Children already play with building blocks and is an existing and

established educational toy.

Page 5: Nm2216 Presentation Group Dw4 04

Problem Problem statement:Context• Preferably in schools & homes.

• Users will play with the bricks which interacts with each other, building the model while learning some facts about the heritage.

• Users can play it alone, or with a group of friends or family members fostering closer ties with them

• Heritage is bridged to the users from learning through playing

Proposed SolutionProposed Solution

• To develop a series of digital

building blocks with a purpose

of it being an educational toy.

• Existing technology: “David

Merril’s Siftables”

Strengths of SolutionStrengths of Solution• Our product is flexible/programmable. This could go into expansion

packs, extend further and incorporating into other context/content

such as sites/modals in other countries, “Statue of liberty”, “Pyramid”.

Even into other subjects and games such as geography, math, science

(molecular structures), tic tac toe, music gadget, etc.

• It combines modern technology with traditional hands on model

making. A hybrid learning experience.

Page 10: Nm2216 Presentation Group Dw4 04

Strengths of SolutionStrengths of Solution• Immense potential and possibilities. Such hybrid technology may not

only be applied to toys, it may open up a new niche of market for

various products, office, school, entertainment, everywhere.

• Studies have shown that the movement of colour and form helps the

early development of the children’s mind. Our toy is a great tool to

facilitate such development.

• Our product offers opportunities for the children to be creative. Instead

of following the assembly manual, they can feel free to try out new

combinations on their own.

Page 11: Nm2216 Presentation Group Dw4 04

Criticism of SolutionCriticism of Solution• The question remains whether to include instructions (how to

play/construct) to the bricks

• Limited adoption since it is a relatively new technology. Only early

adopters might pick it up.

• Not everyone is interested in modular building.

• We want to ensure that our product passes through the early adoption

stage and goes to the main stream market. What do you suggest will

increase the chance of that?
