The NITV Spirit initiative - it used to be called the “NITV Spirit Award”- has evolved into a practical work placement with NITV. It is offered for an emerging Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person that is working within the film and television industry from remote or regional areas in Australia. You travel to Sydney and work with NITV staff in different areas being mentored with practical experience in broadcasting. What will I be doing? You will spend time rotating with different NITV departments and learn relevant skills in the below areas: Commissions NITV News department Promos/editing team Internal productions, which has some live OB opportunities Online/Digital team Living Black Radio (SBS) tbc Do I need to work away from my home? Yes, you will be based in Sydney for up to 3 weeks. As part of the initiative you will travel to Melbourne with the Commissions team to attend the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) and possibly other additional travel if the opportunity arises. How will the initiative be covered? All travel and accommodation will be covered by NITV, including any travel and accommodation outside Sydney. NITV will pay you a stipend for being away from your normal activities as well as travel allowance. How do I apply and when do the applications open and close? What is the initiative about?

Fill out the Expression of Interest part of the application and/or send us a video of yourself (no longer

than 5 minutes) telling us about yourself, what you do and why coming to NITV would be great for your

TV production career and why you want to learn more about the broadcasting/production sector.

You will also need to send us a 3 minute sizzle reel of your work, and a pitch/idea for your Our Stories

15 minute documentary.

What else will I get from participating in the initiative?

If you are selected to be a part of the initiative, NITV will ask you to:

• Produce an Our Stories (1 x 15 minute) documentary in language (contracted separately with you

and to the value of $12,000)

• Produce a news story from your local community

• Attend the Australian International Documentary Conference, Melbourne

• Have a 3 week placement with NITV within the SBS building in Sydney.
