Well- being for all
Success for KPS Kooringal Public School has celebrated some wonderful successes across a variety of areas recently. The Concert Band gained 1st place at the recent Wagga Wagga Eisteddfod with the Junior band making a debut performance and playing really well. The school’s senior choir gained a Highly Commended for their efforts, and Kinder Anzac and Kinder Banjo gained 2nd place in the verse speaking. All their teachers were extremely proud of their efforts. I would like to thank all the teachers for the time they have given to prepare the students for the Eisteddfod and to the huge number of parents, relatives and parents that went along to support them. Excursions Last week Stage 3 went and had a wonderful experience in Beechworth. It was great to hear students reflect on the things they saw and the things that they learnt. Early next term Years 3 and 4 will be going on their excursions and I encourage parents to return paperwork and medical forms as soon as possible. Little Big Ideas I would like to congratulate the teachers and students in Stage 3 for their amazing efforts in entering the ‘Little Big Ideas’ competition. This competition is run by Origin Energy and promotes creative thinking and ideas. Students were asked to submit an idea or invention which they uploaded and submitted. Yesterday, KPS was informed that one of their students had made it to the final 4 and will be attending the final judges in Sydney on 6th October. Congratulations and good luck to all involved

and please read Mr Kerr’s report. Spelling Bee Finals Kooringal Public School had 4 students who represented their school at the District Spelling Bee final at South Wagga Public School yesterday. I’m certain that they had been learning how to spell some unusual words and may have even been watching the spelling bee television show recently. We to all involved. Crazy Hair Day This Thursday, staff and students have the opportunity to come to school in their PJ’s and with the craziest hair they can think of. I encourage everyone to be involved and remind them to bring along a gold coin donation and a non-perishable food item. This fund-raising event will be supporting Verity House of Wagga Wagga. Upcoming Holidays This week is the final week for Term 3. I would ask parents and students to stay safe and enjoy their time over the holiday period. School resumes on Tuesday 6th October. I would also like to remind parents who use the dirt area to pick up their children in the afternoons, that this area will be closed from 2.30-4.00pm from the first day next term. Happy and safe holidays everyone Chris Gooley Relieving Principal
Crazy Hair Pyjama Day!
Thursday 17th September
Week 10 Wear your PJ’s and your craziest hair style! The SRC will be hosting a movie session in the hall for all stages during the day.
Please bring a gold coin donation and a non-perishable food item to support Verity House of Wagga.
Riverina Representatives Congratulations to Jake Scott for gaining a place in the Riverina Athletics Team to com-pete in the shot put event at the State carnival to be held at Homebush early next term. Best of luck Jake.
DIRT AREA
There are still continuing concerns regarding the safety of the dirt area in the afternoons. The school continually receives complaints from parents and the general public regarding the amount of cars trying to access such a small area, causing traffic jams in both the dirt area and Lake Albert Road. The congestion in Lake Albert Road impacts on the buses, general flow of traffic and students and parents who use the footpath outside the dirt area. The situation worsens when it is wet weather. After discussions with a number of outside agencies and the P&C the school has decided to close the dirt area from 2:30pm until 4:00pm.
This will occur day 1 Term 4. This means that parents who have been collecting their children from the dirt area will need to organise an alternative to collect their children in the afternoons. We appreciate that this will be inconvenient for many but the safety of our students is paramount as is the safety of people using Lake Albert Road. If you have any concerns or queries please contact the school to discuss the matter.

Wagga Wagga Eisteddfod Kinder Anzacs and Kinder Banjo recently participated in the Poetry Recital section of the Wagga Wagga Eisteddfod. The children met daily throughout Term 3, to learn two poems, which included lots of actions and many facial expressions. Mrs Jenkyn, Mrs Balding and Mrs Murphy accompanied the children to the Charles Sturt University on a very cold and wet morning. The children looked amazing in their KPS winter school uniforms and they all demonstrated fantastic manners as they sat patiently in the audience listening to other recitals and waiting their turn. Their performance was incredible and the adjudicator described them as , ' energetic performances, and their faces supported gestures which were used in an imaginative way, we could see and hear your enjoyment!' We were very proud of the children and delighted to see them receive a second place in their section. A special thank you goes to our wonderful parents and friends for supporting the children and sharing in their joy. Mrs Jenkyn and Mrs Balding
Stage 3 Beechworth Excursion The Burke Museum The Burke Museum is fascinating and interesting. It is named after Sir Robert O’Hara Burke. Some of the items there are Aboriginal artefacts and clothing and equipment from early Australia, China and Japan. We even saw Sir Burke’s revolver, lots of stuffed birds (including a pelican and white owl) and a Tasmanian tiger. One of my favourite items was a revolver given to the Superintendent of Police Robert O'Hara Burke by his fellow officers when he left Beechworth in November 1858. Jordan Robbie
Ned Kelly’s Vault The Ned Kelly Vault is a museum in Beechworth that houses one of the most significant Ned Kelly Collections in Australia. On display is Ned Kelly's gun named Betty, brother Dan Kelly's pistol, the original table from the verandah of The Anne Jones Hotel, Glenrowan and original photographs and documents. Here Stage 3 explore replicas of the Kelly Gang’s armour.
Beechworth Courthouse Stage 3 had a fantastic time at the Beechworth courthouse, learning about some of the most fascinating court cases in Victoria’s history. It was built in 1858, was in continuous service for 131 years and retains its original furniture and fittings. It was here that Australia’s most famous bushranger, Ned Kelly, was committed to stand trial- Stage 3 were invited to re-enact the famous Kelly sentencing, with great effect.
Band Notes Band Breakfast This Wednesday morning the Friends of the Band will be holding a Band Breakfast for the Junior and Concert band members outside the hall. The Band Breakfast is in aid of showing recognition for the magnificent contributions and dedication of all of our band members during the past few terms and to celebrate their achievements. The Band Breakfast will begin at 8am until 9am and all Band members are invited to participate. End of Term It has been an outstanding and very busy term for the band program at Kooringal Public School and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the band members and their parents for the their assistance this term. I would also like to thank our band conductors and the Friends of the Band Committee for their assistance with organising the Sydney trip, Ei-steddfod and other events throughout the term. Next term we have the presentation night performance, the combined schools performance and band recruitment night to look forward to. With only a few days to go until the end of term, I would like to wish all of our members a safe and enjoyable holiday and to remind you to continue practising your instrument over the school holidays. Have a safe and enjoyable time. Tim Harris, In-school Band Coordinator

Ebony Lewis National Finalist Each year Origin Energy holds a national competition called “The Little Big Idea”. The competition provides a platform for students to grow creative inventions and ideas, to help solve some of our national and global issues. This Year, Stage 3 KPS discussed problems such as health, water safety, disabilities, bushfires and child safety; and students were then invited to submit an idea or invention that may help resolve some of these national issues. Stage Three entered around thirty submissions for the competition and we have recently been informed that Ebony Lewis of 5/6 Jacka, with her Beach Safety Band, has been successful in making it through to the finals in Sydney on the 6th October. Ebony is one of four national finalists from Yrs 5/6, that will have the chance to present her idea to a panel of judges, with the major prize being an all-expenses paid to the United States to visit NASA, the Epcot Centre and Disneyland. We wish you all the best for the finals, Ebony!
