Welcome to the new academic year – and what a successful, happy and productive beginning we are enjoying! So, we begin this academic year having, once again, established a very firm base upon which to build further progress – a foundation which remains dependent upon the incredible teamwork (students, staff, parents/carers and governors) that so characterises this learning community. Welcome to the new academic year –

and what a successful, happy and

productive beginning we are enjoying!

Ever vigilant and ambitious for our

students, staff training on September 4th

focussed on a forensic analysis of our

excellent GCSE results and the sharing of

best learning and teaching practice, so

current and future students can be as well

prepared as possible in these changing

times. Although we cannot compare this

year’s results with those of the past –

because of new examinations and new

grades – August 24th was an absolutely

delightful and very well-deserved

celebration of GCSE success. September

25th, the Progress 8 measure was published

and evidences County High School

students’ average progress from Key Stage

2 to GCSE, compared to the national

average, was +0.46, almost half a grade

higher. They can be justifiably proud of

themselves for working so hard and for

staff, this is job satisfaction at its best.

Accordingly, it was really pleasing to

welcome so many visitors on September

21st, when the Academy held its annual

Open Evening. Approximately 400 families

looked around our school and I was

immensely grateful for the many

compliments they paid to my helpful

students and dedicated colleagues.

At The County High School, Leftwich, we

are never complacent; we are truly

appreciative that so many families are

considering this Academy as the

learning community to which they might

entrust their child’s secondary

education.

I would also like to thank current mums

and dads for sending their sons and

daughters to school looking so smart in

their uniform, which, as we know, helps

them to think smartly by encouraging

the right frame of mind for learning

when they get up on a school day.

So, we begin this academic year

having, once again, established a very

firm base upon which to build further

progress – a foundation which remains

dependent upon the incredible

teamwork (students, staff, parents/carers

and governors) that so characterises this

learning community.

I thus look forward to meeting as many

of you as possible as the academic year

unfolds and extend sincere thanks in

anticipation of another year in which

your ongoing and valued support

enables us to work together in the very

best interests of our students – your sons

and daughters.

attended by students, parents,

teachers, local press, film crews and

RBA members.

The exhibition was opened by Chris

Russell BA MEd, a member of the

Royal Society of British Artists. The

speakers expressed their thanks to

schools across the country for

continuing to support the Arts within

their schools and for supporting the

exhibition in difficult educational

times. The fantastic achievement of

all of the exhibitors was recognised

by Lewis, a student who won an

award in 2010, who officially

declared the exhibition open to the

public.

It was both exciting and rewarding

to see our students’ work exhibited

on the gallery walls. We are very

proud of our Year 11 students, even

more so as the majority of the work

displayed was created by Year 12

and 13 exhibitors.

This shows the exceptional quality of

the work of our gifted artists, Isobel

Neill, Libby Jones, James Rogers,

Faye Cleaver and Lauren Rigby.

They have a talent that has now

been acknowledged nationally and

by the Royal Society of British Artists.

Learning Leader: Art

The National Students’ Art Exhibition is

held under the patronage of

the Royal Society of British Artists. It

features work by the best young

artists selected from Schools,

Colleges and Academies across the

country.

Students' painting, drawing and

sculptures are exhibited alongside

work from members of RBA. The

exhibition aims to celebrate gifted

and talented young artists at this

early stage of their career and to

inspire more young people to enter

the Arts as a profession.

Despite great competition and a

record number of entries this year,

The County High School, Leftwich is

delighted to have been successful in

having both Art and Photography

work selected to be exhibited.

We are thrilled that five of our

talented Year 11 students’ work is on

display at The National Students

Exhibition held at the prestigious Mall

Gallery, London. All of the work

exhibited was selected by the “Royal

Society of British Artists” panel. Their

work has been professionally

mounted and framed and then hung

by the gallery curators. The invitation

only private view was held on

Wednesday 12th July 2017. It was

On Monday 25th September, Year 5

and 6 girls played football at The

County High School, Leftwich.

A good standard of football was

played by all teams - some great

goals. By the last round of games

Davenham and Kingsmead had

won both - so a great last game

meant only a win was good

enough - Davenham were

eventual winners 1-0.

the National Water Sports

Centre, Nottingham in July.

Well done Tom.
