Regards, Kent Wilson, Principal REMEMBER TO FORGET ‘If you have anything against anyone, forgive him.' Mark 11:25 NKJV No matter how much two people love each other, conflicts are sure to arise that call for extending grace and showing forgiveness. Do you know that couples who are happy and stay married have the same number of disagreements and conflicts as couples who are unhappy and get divorced? Statistically, that is true! It’s not the absence of con- flict that preserves marriage, but the ability to manage conflict when it happens. How do you manage conflict? By practicing the kind of self-control that keeps conflicts from mushrooming into hurtful and divisive standoffs. It also means knowing what to do with hurt feelings like anger, disap- pointment and dashed expectations. In other words, it means knowing how to forgive it and forget it. But emotional hurt and tension are almost impossible to forget; the harder we try, the more we remember. So, what’s the answer? Remember to forget! Try to act like God, who chooses not to hold against us what he knows about us. He says in his Word: ‘I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake; and I will not remember your sins’ (Isaiah 43:25 NKJV). That means if you are holding something against your spouse, there’s only one solution: Forgive it and forget it. You may never forget how you’ve been hurt, but you can choose to forgive it and move on. No, it’s not easy, but you can do it. How? By remembering the things, known or unknown to others, that God has forgiven you for and extending that same grace to your spouse. At Westminster Christian School, we have been doing a lot of work on what Respect is.

The definition of Respect we have is, “Thinking and acting in a way that shows others you care about

their feelings and well being.”

Our Biblical World View is Luke 6:31, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

At assembly I went through the following:

We don’t have to like someone to respect them

We need to respect people who have differences

Respect is showing manners, not interrupting, listening to one person at a time

Wearing the correct uniform, it is how you present yourself and the school, being respectful

We are giving out weekly Respect Awards to be presented at assembly. We can only do so much as

teachers but the model God gave us is critical.

God has an order, Respect God first, Parents second and Teachers and other adults Third.

Over the next four months we will be focusing a lot on Respect as it is critical.

Te Reo Māori in Westminster Christian School

We have been including some more content in our teaching of Te Reo Māori in our classrooms recently, such as more common words,

phrases, waiata (song) and karakia (prayer). Our teachers have also been pursuing Professional Development in Te Reo Māori to build up

their own knowledge.

The Treaty of Waitangi that was signed in 1840 by the Māori people and the government is a founding document for all of New Zealand. It

has three main principles that are important for all New Zealanders:

Partnership Working together

Participation We are a bi-cultural nation (two main cultures – European and Māori)

Protection The language, knowledge and values of the Maori people are protected.

I am aware in all cultures that they have their own myths, legends and beliefs. Our children need to have a strong Biblical World View which

we built at our school. This is so the children can discern what is truth and what is fiction. We always learn about many cultures and their

beliefs and then weigh it up against Biblical Truth. This is critical for our children to grasp as they will, in life, meet many things that they need

to pray about for discernment.

We then direct the children to compare and contrast against Biblical truths. This is crucial learning for the children, helping them build critical

thinking skills in order to defend our faith. I am sure you agree that they will, in life want to build the strongest faith in God they can.
