Since this was a HUGE name for a little boy, they affectionately called him “Teddy”. When Teddy went to school, the official school records referred to him as T. William Adams so he was known as “Billy”. Billy’s classmates and teachers quickly shortened his name to “Bill”. Unfortunately, another Bill popped up in his math class so our Bill offered to go by “Theo”, which seemed like a cooler name than Bill at the time. When he graduated law school, Theo needed to use his given name and decided to use T. William Christopher Adams. Later in life, his children’s teachers and friends called him “Mr. Adams”. When “Chris”, as his wife called him, turned 40, his family planned a huge birthday bash and mailed invitations to everyone he had ever known. The problem was that no one recognized the honoree’s name, Theodore William Christopher Adams. He thus teetered on the brink of depression due to this identity crisis. Only one thing could be done – he must clear up the confusion. He opened a Facebook account and, after months and months of telling and re-telling his friends how he wanted to be known, he finally established his identity! As you may have discerned from this parable, Theodore William Christopher Adams represents The Woodlands Christian Academy. (Thank you, Shelie Goodwin.) We have an outstanding school, and we want everyone in our community to know about it. The Woodlands Christian Academy describes us perfectly, but it is a long name. Understandably, our school’s name is regularly shortened. Our names range from TWCA (The Woodlands Community Association?) to WCA (Waste Corporation of America?) to The Academy (which one?) to The Christian Academy (which one?). Ultimately, we sound like five different schools, and any experienced marketer knows this dilutes our effectiveness in establishing a brand. Our preferred shortened name, especially when talking to people outside of our school family, is “Woodlands Christian”. To further assist us with the advancement of our school’s image, we have adopted two primary logos, one for the school and one for athletics (see below). Our goal is to replace all of our previous logos and, again, clarify our image in the community. To make sure that we present ourselves consistently, we have established review and approval procedures for using the school’s name/logos in printed materials and on promotional items. If you have any questions or seek an approval, please contact Shelie Goodwin or Stacie Phillips. As we strive to become a light on the hill for Christ in this community, please help us to clarify our name and establish an image worthy of a Christian college preparatory school. Theodore William Christopher Adams was named by his parents to honor his fore fathers. Garden Day

On Saturday, September 15 many of our families helped to turn over the lower school garden beds in preparation for our fall growing season! Moms and dads tilled, pulled weeds, rebuilt garden cages, and generally made our garden beautiful and ready for our kids to plant! Kids helped in the clean up operation as well! We had a lot of fun getting elbow-deep in the dirt together and

even found a few critters to investigate along the way! Our watermelon and peppers are already growing quite nicely too! Thanks to everyone who gave part of their Saturday to get our garden ready for the fall.

This week at chapel we talked about God, El Shaddai. El Shaddai means God Almighty and we first see that name appear in Genesis 17:1-2 where God says, “I am God Almighty (El Shaddai)”. In this context God is reminding Abram of His promise or covenant to give him

a child in his old age that would birth the nation of Israel. From this nation would come the Messiah, Jesus Christ, and through Him all the nations of the earth would be blessed when they believe upon Him. So we

concluded that although people break promises because they’re not perfect, they forget or they are not able to keep them; God ALWAYS keeps His promises. Chapel Challenge: As a family, see if you can look through your Bible and find at least 10 promises that God or Jesus gives us that we can count on. Write down the promises and the Bible verses. Have a great week! In Christ,

Pastor Brian

Mrs. Dowdy’s high school anatomy class will present a cancer awareness day on Tuesday, October 2. The purpose of this project is to help educate The Woodlands Christian Academy community about the most common types of cancer and the precautions everyone should take to prevent these cancers. There will be an informational display in the Timothy Administration Building and class members will pass out stickers and answer questions about their research. Submitted by Katie Van Horn

Physics Class Lifts Off!

Physics students in Mrs. Wheeler's classes recently put their knowledge of kinematics to the test. They launched an air-powered rocket and, based on the time it took to return to earth, calculated the initial launch velocity.

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. Ephesians 3:14-21 KJV

On Wednesday morning, September 26 students, faculty and parents participated in See You At the Pole, a global day of student led prayer.

Warrior Football Gets A Win On The Road

For the second week in a row, the Warriors football team was on the road. The team faced the Lutheran North Lions in what proved to be a thrilling game. The Warriors had a 21-8 lead at halftime, but the Lions came back in the third quarter to cut the lead to 21-14. A touchdown extended the Warriors’ lead to 28-14, but the Lions cut the deficit to 28-21. A final Warrior touchdown was too much for the Lions to overcome, and the team came away with a

35-28 victory. The team now has a record of 2-2. It was a solid win over a larger (Division II) school and sets up the team well for their return to Warrior field on October 5. The Warriors have a bye this week and will use the time to focus and prepare for the big homecoming game against HSAA of Dallas, Texas on October 5. Kick off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Warrior Cross Country Update -- by Coach Tom Earle

Last weekend the Warrior cross country team competed at the Katy Faith West meet and saw their hard work pay great dividends. Out of 24 high school teams, the girls’ team finished in 5th place overall, and the boys’ team finished in 8th place. Many large schools offered tough competition in this meet and each Warrior runner still set a season best or all-time personal best time. In TAPPS 3A state rankings our girls’ team is in a three way tie for 3rd place and the boys’ team is also ranked 3rd in the state. The middle school team also achieved much at the Katy Faith West meet. Hannah Shearer brought home a medal after finishing

second in a field of 93 runners. On the boys’ side, Sam Mueck earned a medal for his 13th place finish out of 176 runners. The boys’ team finished in 4th place overall out of the 28 schools in the competition. This year’s cross country team is having the most success in the history of the program. God has truly equipped each athlete with special gifts and in return, we thank Him for these gifts and give Him all the glory for the team’s accomplishments this season.

The girls’ (above) and boys’ (left) varsity teams celebrate their accomplishments at the Katy Faith West meet on September 22, 2012
