Prep Numbers: We are in the process of finalising our numbers for next year. Firstly offers will be sent out to all in the zone and siblings to ascertain available positions. When these offers are returned we will request all parents who have not been offered a position indicate if they would like to be kept on a waiting list. Speedy responses assist every family to bring clarity to 2020 . Golf Tournament: today’s newsletter will give details of the Primary School golf Championships to be held early August at nearby courses golf championships. If interested families need to complete the online entry. Building: Progress continues on the refurb. Windows are due to arrive this week. Once these are in position the viewing of the internals will be lessened. If you are in the school take some time to look into the rooms. The exit doors for the 2 rooms on the South side will not be used until stage 2 is nearing completion and the decking is installed. The plans continue to be around a hand over of stage 1 around mid August. This will signal the moving of the year 2s back into their spaces and the need to decant the remainder of the South Wing : 3JS, Prep classes, Art and STEM into temporary arrangements. Trivia Night: Tables are filling up quickly. The night is more about the opportunity to have a great night out, peruse the terrific auction items up for grabs and enjoy great food. The trivia is there to supply a challenge and some humour. Much of night presents an opportunity to think back and reflect on past experiences. Come along and enjoy the night!!!!! Thank you to the committee who have worked so hard to bring this night togeth-er. Also thank you to the numerous businesses and individuals who have freely donated items for the silent auction. Life Education: The Life Education Program for 2019 begins next week. The van in which the children visit to undertake the program will be in place this week. Details of the program was in last week’s newsletter and further details may be gained by attending the information session held this Friday, 2.30-3.30, in the van.

Dear Families, Out of School Hours Care: This service is a valuable addition to our schools operation, however it only operates if it does not impact on the core business of our school. Accounts (This seems to be constant!) We are currently over $2000 in debt for families. This is $2000 not available to the staff and children. The end of term is fast approaching so please set-tle these debts and maintain a positive balance. Care available on Curriculum Days. This is made available at our school to support families who need care on these days. The service operates only if numbers support a cost neutral situ-ation, currently this is 15 students. It is entirely separate to the Before School and After School programs, it is a school service which does not attract a CCB rebate. The payment for the day’s program is separate to this subsided program. Please note that due to our next curriculum day being the first day of term 4 we will not be offering this service. Curriculum days are conducted on Mondays and Fridays, if possible, to make it easier on families. However sometimes pre-senters are not available on these days. We also try to maximise the availability of our part time staff on these days. Concert: Tickets to the extravaganza are on sale now so please do not wait or hesitate!!! The performers are primed and ready, the costumes are fitted and the orchestra is warming up. Tickets are only available via trybooking link below. If you do not have access to the internet then the office staff can help. www.trybooking.com/BEEVM The ticket are for entry only. No allocation of seats is undertaken. The arena is a great venue for viewing which is one of the main reasons why we have the concert at this venue. Any special requirements will be addressed via the office. I Can Statement: As we are drawing to the end of term the Sentral portal with the I Can Statements will be made available in the last week of term 3, over the school holidays and the first week of term 4. Please access via your normal Sentral log on credentials. NAPLAN: These assessment reports are due very shortly. The results form part of the year wide assessments that are conducted in our school. The overall results also have an im-pact on the school’s review of our progress and programs. Each child in years 3 and 5 who sat the assessments receive an individual report and notes of how to interpret the results. The school receives both individual reports, breakdown based on gender, Year level and trend data over past years. Absent from School: We all are aware that the progress of all children is effected by at-tendance. Here are some interesting figures about the cumulative effect of absences. Absent Per year. Over 13 years of schooling. 1 day per fortnight. 4 weeks missed. Nearly 1.5 years missed 1 day per week. 8 weeks missed. Over 2.5 years missed. This brings into perspective the end result in available time for children to not only be in a class-room but also experience and develop social skills with peers. Welcome: We welcomed a new student yesterday. Raina has joined our school and 2KH. Kim and the class will ensure a smooth transition to our community. We also welcome Ashwani (Mum) to the Chilwell community. With the concert and our building program happening it is a most exciting time at Chilwell.

Confidence means having the belief that you will be successful in many areas

of your schoolwork, social relationships and extra-curricular activities (sports,

music, art). It means trying new activities that you might not be perfect at, not

being afraid to make mistakes or not being overly concerned with what others

think.

Congratulations to the following students who received a Confidence award last week.

Triple P at Chilwell Primary School Individual Sessions now available The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program ® is a parenting and family support system designed to prevent – as well as treat – behavioral and emotional problems in children and teenagers. It aims to prevent problems in the family, school and community before they arise and to create fami ly environments that encourage children to realize their potential.

Triple P draws on social learning, cognitive behavioral and developmental theory as well as research into risk factors associated with the development of social and behavioral problems in children. It aims to equip parents with the skills and confidence they need to be self-sufficient and to be able to manage family issues without ongoing support. And while it is almost universally successful in improving behavioral problems, more than half of Triple P's 17 parenting strategies focus on developing positive relationships, attitudes and conduct. Triple P is delivered to parents of children up to 12 years. This can be done in individual sessions of 45 minutes duration with our accredited facilitator at Chilwell Primary School. If you would like to make an appointment please email [email protected] or leave a message at the school office on 5221 2738. Appointments are available on Wednesdays during the school Term.

District Athletics Carnival

On Wednesday 21st August, 55 students from Grades 3-6 travelled to Landy Field for the District Ath-letics Carnival. These students had qualified in our School Athletics Carnival held earlier in the year. All the students competed well and showed great sportsmanship and encouragement to their peers and competitors. There were some outstanding results and personal bests achieved throughout the day. All the students are applauded for their efforts.

Special thanks to teachers - Mr Blackall, Miss Robertson, Mr Gregory, Mrs Robins and Mrs Jeffreys for their organisation and supervision. Also to the parent helpers, Rachel Schutze, Peter Stephens, Penny Bywater and Natalie Lee. Your help was much appreciated.

25 students have now qualified for the Division Athletics Carnival to be held next week at Landy Field. We wish them all the best.

Basketball Lightning Premiership

Last Wednesday, our Grade 5/6 girls, boys and mixed basketball teams competed in the Summer Light-ning Premiership at the Geelong Basketball and Netball Centre. They played against schools across our district, showing great skill and sportsmanship all day.

Our mixed team faced some very tough teams and whilst they didn’t win their matches they certainly improved throughout the day. Our girls team competed well all day but succumbed to a very competi-tive Manifold Heights team in the semi-final. Our boys team were undefeated all day and won the Grand Final against Fyans Park in spectacular fashion with a 2 pointer on the buzzer by Ned McElroy. The boys now progress to the Division Carnival which will be held early next term. The students thank Nikki Sleep, Tez Kemp and Mrs Jeffreys for coaching on the day, the parents who scored and those who came to support.

Toucan Appeal

The Social Service Committee would like to thank the Chilwell community for

supporting the Toucan Appeal. Your generous donations will greatly assist families in

need in our local area. This is an appeal we support every year and it is wonderful to

know that we can make a difference.

Legacy On the 2nd of September, the Social Service Committee will start selling badges, wrist-

bands and pens. We will be raising money for the Geelong Legacy Club. The Geelong

Legacy Club raises money for widows and children of deceased army personnel. For

many years, local schools have greatly assisted Legacy by selling these badges, wrist-

bands and pens

We will be running the Geelong Legacy Fundraiser and hope you will participate by

buying the $2 badges, $3 wristbands and the $3 pens. We will be selling the items at

the buddy bench for the whole of next week at lunchtime. Please support this worthy

cause.

PE and Sport - Hockey Clinics

Over the past four weeks each year level across our school has been learning hockey during PE classes. Along with the school’s PE teachers, this has been taught by coaches from the Newtown City Hockey Club. Children have been taught the basics of hockey, through a series of fun games and activities. Thanks to Hockey Australia who donated a hockey equipment pack to the school to keep. The students have learned so much about the game of hockey during this month and even Mrs Jeffreys and Mr Blackhall have learned new skills! Interesting fact - there are only right hand hockey sticks, plus you can only hit the ball with the flat side, not the rounded edge! The students have learned dribbling, stop-ping, change of direction, tackling and protecting the ball, plus modified games such as hocktopus, traffic lights and end zone.

It has been a fun-filled four weeks of learning a new sport.
