Dear Families

Thank you Could I take the opportunity to thank our specialist teachers. We are again fortunate to be able to provide specialised programs in Italian, Library, Physical Education, Science (Year 3-6) and Information Technology to all students. Many of these are able to form part of our children's secondary education right through to year 12. The year 6s visited the National Gallery of Victoria last Friday to support their program in visual arts(Great work Deb Fisher) and Peter Blackall has continued to have specialist coaches working with our children in aspects of physical education.

Fair Well we are here!!!!! - Nearly. The planning is in place, food ordered, wristbands for rides being sold and weather booked. We do realise we have bombarded you but the community feel and fun of the night is well worth the effort. A few last minute needs: 1. Help: The schedule for the Fair is as follows: Thursday: Tidy up the grounds. Including blower vac the grounds, mow lawns, wash seats, air the marquees. Friday Set up: Marquees erected, tables in place, stall set up and requirements placed at stalls, stage in place, wine tent up and positioning of rides as they arrive. Saturday morning: Tidy up of grounds, marquees put away, trestles stacked, stage into Multi Purpose room, wine tent put away, oval blower vac, If you can help with any of these days please fill out response sheet or contact the office or found in the Fair Newsletter. 2. If you enjoy a walk why not drop some Fair flyers into letterboxes. Contact the office or drop in to pick up some flyers. 3. Start to arrange for relatives, friends or neighbours to join us on the night. 4. If you have a prominent position for one of our promotional boards or flyers drop into office and pick up. Let's get the word out there. See you there!! Thank you for all your support in the organisation of the Fair. This is a school community event, let's all do our share and enjoy the results. Proceeds raised form the fair will go towards: repainting of the last section of the heritage building. repairs and changes to the Junior school playground. 5 new televisions to replace interactive whiteboards in classrooms. Many of these projects have already been undertaken. Classroom program: It is very reassuring that in all the preparation, deliveries, promotion and help requests our school has continued to focus on learning and our students. Friday of the Fair will be a challenge, especially with the younger children, but the interruption will be minimal. Newspaper article: Last week our school's strong result on the NAPLAN assessments was noted in the local paper. We have performed very well in these annual Australian wide assessments for many years, also noted in the article (top, or top 5, in 4 of the 5 areas assessed!!!). The results are fantastic but it must be noted that they are due to the efforts of our whole community- students, staff and families. Congratulations to all!!

Classroom Helpers: Sarah Jeffreys and Rohan Perrott have organised the program which aims to inform parents on how to assist in classrooms, and home, with areas such as reading, mathematics etc. one session is planned for this term with 2 more to follow next term. These sessions also assist at home with helping your child so consider giving some time to this opportunity. More information regarding dates can be found later in the newsletter. Out of School Care Accounts: These accounts must be positive or at least zero at the end of term. The program can only operate if finances are kept in a positive position- debts draw resources away from our children. Please see Cheryl if you do not know your account balance and attend to these accounts ASAP. Skoolbag App: This has become a most valuable tool for both families and school. Don’t forget to change your child's class notification alert. This can be found under the More tab (bottom right on the app) then select Setup Push Notifications. The app allows families to:

Receive messages from school eg the late arrival of the year 6 campers, excursion arrival times, zooper dooper sale days etc

Notifying school of absences. View the newsletter! both current and past editions. Contact the school with any information or question. Changes to any phone numbers, emails or family details.

It is an easy process to download from the App Store. Don't forget that newsletter will be sent electronically from term 2. This makes this app very convenient and necessary. Birthdays

Happy birthday to the following students who will be celebrating their birthday over the next few weeks

Our You Can Do It Awards

Congratulations to the following students who received an award this week.

Our YCDI! Focus for this term is RESILIENCE Resilience means bouncing back when things go wrong. If you fall over in the playground, you dust yourself off and keep going. Everyone who receives a certificate for resilience will also receive a wristband. Hopefully by the end of grade six you will have collected a wrist band for each YCDI! Key. Zali and Sara (YCDI! Committee Leaders)

Social Service Committee

Dear parents,

Our first initiative as the new Social Service Committee for 2017 is to collect Easter Eggs for the elderly.

This is where we go to the elderly people in our community and present them with an Easter egg. Some

of these people have no family anymore and a simple sign like this warms their hearts on Easter Sunday.

If you can bring an Easter egg remember to write a little note with your full name

and grade on it. Some of the people receiving eggs like to write a card of thanks.

We will start collecting Easter Eggs from the classrooms this Thursday.

Please contribute to this great cause.

Year 6 Social Service Committee

Year 6 NGV exhibition

The year sixes on Friday 10th of March went up to Melbourne to the David Hockney exhibition and looked at his art. We attempted his art, we tried still life and different types of portraits. We looked around at his art. He did different series of fruit on the bench, portraits of famous people. He also did portraits of family and friends. He also did detailed and fine drawings of certain things and he did drawings using ipads and iphones. He said ‘ phones changed the world.’

Special Invitation for Parent Helpers Course Dear Parents,

At Chilwell Primary School parents helping in the classroom is an integral part of learning.

Having parent helpers in the school contributes to the educational outcomes of students, assists teachers in their roles and is much loved by the children.

Each year we conduct a parent helpers’ course so that parents know how they can best assist in the classroom. It is expected that parents have done the parent helpers course before being a parent helper.

This year the parent helpers’ course will be run over three weeks.

Week 1: Friday 17th March 2:30 – 3:30

Week 2: Friday 21st April 2:30 – 3:30 (this is term two)
