PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

The theme for this year’s Reconciliation Week is ‘Reconciliation takes action.’ At Northfield the week has been marked in a range of ways for both staff and students. It has been an important opportunity for all of us to take time to recognise the significance of building respectful relationships between First Nations people and the wider Australian community. Thank you to everyone who participated in an activity or took an appropriate moment to recognise this important National week.

I would also like to remind families and caregivers that this term during week 9 we will be having teacher interviews. Information around the online booking system will be sent home this week. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear directly about student academic progress as well as social progress. Please note this is also the time when reports will be handed to you, directly by the classroom teachers.

Lastly, thank you to all the Northfield staff who participated last Friday in our fourth day of training, using the Berry Street Education Model. It was another insightful day around increasing student engagement with a focus on relationships, wellbeing, growth and academic achievement.

Kind regards,

Jasmine Marrett

Deputy Principal

Outdoor Sinks John our groundsman has built 2 outdoor sinks for the school. One sink is behind the library and is for the use of the Science Room. This sink is used to clean science equipment or for science projects.

The other sink is in the nature play area for students to wash their hands and play equipment from sand. Both sinks have been connected to water.

Thank you John these sinks look great.

PICK A LOCAL, PICK SA

Wednesday 26th May, we were visited by the team from Pick A Local, Pick SA. A delivery of fresh apples and mandarins were delivered the school to promote local produce. The apples and mandarins were donated by Lenswood and JUMALUK & Ingy’s.

A BIG thank you to Alex, Aaryan, McKenzie, Ryan, Sushen and Shazia who met the team.

Reconciliation in action — Preschool

Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families and communities. At the heart of this journey are the relationships we have with each other. As a preschool community we are learning more about each other and sharing about our families. This is a way for children to recognise and celebrate our similarities and differences. It builds on a shared sense of belonging and builds connections between children, Educators and families. While sitting with children to complete their drawings we talked about their family members and the roles they have in their family. It was such a valuable experience and the children were happy and proud to share what they knew about their family.
