ÉditorialHere we are in 2013, having survived the end of the world predicted by the Mayans...or at least the end of a way of life. Which is why, in this new year, on top of wishing you health, prosperity, joy and happiness, I would like to wish for a little magic in your lives! And what could be more magical than hoping to see things in a whole new light. Seeing a healthy community take up new challenges together. Seeing smiles on the faces of children playing outside with their parents, in the middle of winter. Imagining teenagers realizing their projects and thriving in their own community, and their region. And who knows, we might even get the opportunity to discuss sustainable change when Québec en Forme has its large gathering in 2013, with its theme, «Go! On fonce!» (Let’s Get Going!)Denis Delbois

Strategic Plan for 2013/2016 Each one of the commiDees has been working hard these past few months in order to see our new upcoming strategic plan progress! Here are the main changes that we can expect on our work tablets.
First of all, we’ve modified our strategic view because we want to focus heavealy on families. In fact, all the partners want to REALLY reach the parents. With this in mind, we gave a lot of thought to how we’d proceed and we believe we’ve come up with a plan that will make a real difference. It will feature an approach that is empathe=c, posi=ve, simple and enjoyable. There can be renewed pleasure in being ac=ve and ea=ng well, in discovering the richness of our infrastructures and in striving to get everyone on board. The following three main PRIORITIES have emerged:
-‐ Access to services is a challenge in terms of costs, =me, distance, variety, and quality... We need to ADAPT the services to the needs of families and to encourage them to be ac=ve on their own as well.
-‐ Policies, the promo=on of healthy lifestyle choices, and the role of decision makers: We need to beDer inform poli=cians and make them aware of their important role.
-‐ The need to help children and their parents develop abili=es while addressing their specific interests and making sure they enjoy themselves!
The next steps will take place during the January and February mee=ngs. We should therefore be ready to submit our request for aid from Québec en Forme on April 30th, following the group mee=ng in April 2013 to adopt the work plan. We’re not giving up. We’re on the right track!
It’s Happening Right Here! The parent/child psymotor workshops at the Maison de la Famille in Magog are going well. Annie leads a group of 8 to 10 parents who enjoy wiggling around with their liDle ones! The workshops in PoDon are set to begin shortly.
The parent/child cooking workshops organized by the Cuisines Collec0ves Bouchée-‐Double have already begun at the Villa Pierrot, as well as the Play Group and the stroller walks. The parents who take part are as pleased as ever!
The ac=vity evenings have started up again at the Maison des Jeunes in Magog. They take place every Wednesday evening, with the support of Louis-‐Charles. The team helps the youngsters become more self-‐reliant, and tries to ins=ll the desire to be ac=ve in a more systema=c way. The girls remain a challenge when it comes to their interests, but it’s a challenge we’re determined to meet!
The extracurricular ac=vi=es have also resumed in PoDon. A dozen or so young people are taking part in the two ac=vity anernoons!
The École du Val-‐de-‐Grâce in Eastman decided to train young people to become leaders when it comes to healthy ea=ng. It’s part of its project designed to «cul=vate healthy ea=ng habits». Last fall, the students cooked garden potatoes, a dish that was well received by all the students. More is to come!
Finally, let’s not forget the 12 «schoolyard» projects that encourage children between the ages of 5 and 12 to be physically ac=ve during recess and/or the noon hour. Not to men=on the 32 preschool teachers who play a big part in improving the motor skills of preschool children (4 and 5 years of age) in all 15 primary schools in the Memphremagog region!
What’s more, seven schools offer cooking workshops as well as workshops that teach nutri=on! The Nutri=on Educa=on Program (sponsored by the Dairy Farmers of Canada), is provided by class teachers who, if needed, are supported by the CSSSM team. The cooking workshops, provided by Nutri-‐Santé commiDee volunteers, are offered in the two schools in PoDon. The volunteers were trained and assisted by the CSSSM nutri=onist and by a member of the Cuisines Collec0ves.
