NEWSLETTER ISSUE 1 CELEBRATING 30 YEARS JANUARY 2019 Happy New Year! Welcome 2019! We would again like to thank the members for their continued support throughout 2018 and look forward to working together during 2019. Many events are being planned for this year, seminars/workshops, scholarship fundraisers, and the annual awards event, networking luncheons, breakfasts and mixers. We hope to see you! The 2019 membership renewals were mailed to all members in mid-December. Please take a minute to complete and return or renew online at www.slatebeltchamber.org. A reminder that the information you give us is what we use for the web site and the membership directory. We need to receive your renewals before March 15 th to ensure that you will be listed correctly. Special “Thank you” to the Bangor School District, Chamber Chorus and Elite Gourmet Catering for the fantastic venue, service and food for this year’s Slate Belt Toys for Children luncheon and toy drive. We delivered many toys to local families through Families First of the Pen Argyl School District and Slater Family Network of the Bangor School District. The Election of Directors was held at our annual holiday celebration dinner on Dec. 13 th . When you see Nancy Kessler and Heather Marzigliano welcome them to our board of directors…….The 2019 SBCC Directors are as follows: One Year Directors: Lucy Flinn, Fred Curcio, Deb Pettinari, Steve Hurni, Bryan Gault, Mike Ortoski, Heather Marzigliano. Two Year Directors: Rosemary Albert, Mary Marshall, Jewel Williamson-Burns, Nadine Moyer, Joann Ginder, Chuck Niclaus, Jeff Ott, and Nancy Kessler The election of officers will be held at the January full board meeting. Thank you goes to the Bangor Pub/Colonial Hotel for hosting our holiday celebration dinner, the food was great and the atmosphere perfect. The Santa’s Elves committee would like to thank the out pour of donations and volunteers for this year’s children’s Christmas Party for the less than fortunate. We served many children a hot lunch, provided those with entertainment and each received a gift bag full of goodies from Santa. Remember to start saving your glassware for this year’s Dime Toss Booth at the Blue Valley Farm Show in August. We would also like to take a minute to remember Richard Guarry aka our Santa for many, many years….rest in peace Richard.

Welcome 2019! We would again like to thank the members for their continued support throughout 2018 and look forward to working together during 2019. Advertising: We have an array of advertising opportunities from newsletter/business card ads, membership directory ad and web site advertising.

One of the greatest resources the Chamber has is the ability to connect our members together. Press Releases: The Slate Belt Heritage Center will hold their monthly program on Sunday, January 13 @ 2PM. Speaker for the afternoon will be Mr. Terry Toth, who will present a program honoring the life of Jean Pinto. Jean, along with Mr. Toth, was the director of the New Approach for over 45 years and made a significant impact on the Slate Belt community. This program is in place of the “Mummers” presentation which will be seen at a future date. The event is free and open to the public. The Center is located at 30 North 1st Street, Bangor, Pa. Kirkridge Retreat and Study Center is Seeking an Associate Director Imagine a job where you could bring your whole self to work each day that welcomes your passion along with your beliefs and commitments to change the world. The associate director will be responsible to:

• participate fully in the shepherding of this special place extending radical hospitality to all who come; • participate in the daily work of running a retreat center and carry the oversight of all communications, marketing and social

media. • Working with the executive director and the governing board, • participate in the development of new programs, partnerships and the setting of new directions for the organization.
