Friday 5th October 2018 October Update
At the staff meeting we were discussing
timehellipeverything we do is marked by the steady
march of time seconds lead to minutes to
hours to days to weeks
Suddenly we are in the month of October and it
seems time is passing us by very quickly
We often say to one another lsquowhere have the
days or months or even years gonersquo but do we
take time to think about our existence and how
we are making a difference in the world
This week Markrsquos Gospel was teaching us to be
lsquothe salt of the earthrsquo and our children had
beautifully deep ideas about how they can live
out this message
Sophia in year 4 said ldquoit is like sprinkling salt on
our food we can be the ones to sprinkle love
on our worldrdquo
Chloe in year 6 said ldquowe need salt to keep the
coloured dye on our clothes so we need to be
like the salt and do things to keep the world
going like looking after Godrsquos creationrsquo
How wonderful if we can live our days looking
for moments to be the salt of the earth
Have a lovely weekend

Safeguarding
The Safeguarding and safety of our pupils is above anything else we do at St Josephrsquos With this in
mind it is essential we monitor people coming into school and ask that any parent visiting signs
in at the school office At times we know it can be slow to dismiss pupils especially from after
school activities and the after school club so we ask for your patience as we ensure every child is
dismissed properly
Many parents have commented on how much safer their children feel with the changes in
procedures and we thank you for the continued support with changes and especially the patience
you have shown with the temperamental gates
We are very keen on keeping a good relationship with parents and
would encourage you to email or call the school to make an
appointment with class teachers if you have any concerns
Art competition
A number of pupils created art work for the WW1 art competition at
Southill Park
Congratulations to the children who were selected for the next stage of the
competition we look forward to seeing the artwork on display in the gallery

NSPCC
As part of our safeguarding plan we invited the NSPCC in to school this week They delivered
lsquoSpeak out Stay safersquo to both key stages This aims to equip a generation of children with the
knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse and neglect Children are
taught to speak out if they are worried either to a trusted adult or Childline
In return they have asked that we raise some funds to support their cause so next week every
class will take part in a sponsored activity as part of PE and we ask that they collect what they
can for NSPCC using the forms they were given All sponsorship should be handed in by
Monday 15th October (SEE INFORMATION ON NEXT SLIDE)
Football News
On Wednesday Year 3 amp 4 were invited to a tournament at Easthampstead
Park 10 pupils went along and met twenty Bracknell schools They played 4
matches and managed to come back with an impressive 2nd place in the group
stages Luca said ldquowe played really well but were unlucky with a loss and a
drawrdquo Lucia said ldquoWe behaved really well and we are all really proud of where
we were placed Well done to all involved and thank you to Mrs M for
organising this event
Dear ParentCarer
As you may know the NSPCC visited our school today and delivered their Speak out Stay

from harm and get help if they have any worries This is part of our Safeguarding procedure
It was a very worthwhile and empowering session for both pupils and teachers They spoke to
the children and staff about the valuable work they do across the country and talked about
how important it is for everyone in our school community to join them in their lsquofight for every
childhoodrsquo
As a charity they can only provide these vital resources thanks to the financial support and
generosity of their supporters
Thatrsquos why wersquore raising money to help the NSPCCrsquos work in schools
I am delighted to say that our school has chosen to support the valuable work of the NSPCC
this term by taking part in a fundraising event and I would really value your support and
encouragement How your children can have fun ndash and make a massive difference
Children will be doing Buddy Circuits ndash which will not only be exciting for our pupils but will
also mean theyrsquore raising money for the NSPCCrsquos vital work and helping keep even more
children safe

be fantastic if you could give your child permission to take part by signing the sponsor form
and return the sponsored event form and money raised to school by Monday 15th October
If you have more than one child in school simply put all your childrenrsquos names at the top of
one form
